Very nice. I'm surprised your car isn't running away from those stockcars. Are they running Cup spec or have they pulled all the ballast off and brought out the big inch motors? They have more tire than you?
Can you elaborate more on the engine? Was this with the KB 572?
@EchoSixMike You are right. I had previously richened up just the top end jetting, thinking it was too lean. At this event , I could not figure what had slowed it down. I had it right at the UTCC event in July. They use the same tires and cup motors, turning 9000rpm and lower gearing. I have a KB block, Stage Five street replacement heads, a 650 lift , 265 degree roller cam and 11.5 compression, running a 2.88 rear gear. The 58mm Webers give me a broader torque curve.
@glennbunch. Very cool, I'm guessing you're running leaded fuel so an O2 sensor is out? Any porting on the heads? 650 lift should be OK on spring life, although extended high rpm probably isn't what the manufacturer planned for on a hemi:-) You running oil sprayers on the valve springs?
I would have thought the stock cars would be considerably slower, they're about the same HP and I thought they were 3500lbs in Cup trim.
Glenn, I love seeing these videos. I am 52 and race a 2005 Mustang road course in Arizona. I remember seeing a couple IMSA races at Luguna Seca back in the 70's. Your car brings back fond memories of those days. You and Glenn keep it up!
I believe so. Everything is looking good and we do want to go. The Dodge will be sporting its old GTX bodywork with the radiators in the rear fenders, etc. As a point of interest, the Dodge hit 165 MPH on the pit straight at the UTC event. I hope to run that again at VIR at the end of July. Thanks for posting and your support.
I missed Gold Cup this last year for a trip to Minnesota, but I remember this car from 08 (I believe). It was pretty great to watch it run. Are you going to be there this coming June?
You are right. It has run 175 before, but at that moment , it was in the process of breaking two valve springs, which did fail after the race started, so we just stroked it on 7 cylinders, at 165 and fell back to 3rd place.. At the UTC event , with a milder cam profile, it ran 169 on the pit straight!! It will go faster next year.

He must have tuned his car differently because I've seen him hit almost 170 on the long stretch... It's a shame he's not doing it at the actual race.
