  • Thands ellaskin for all your tips! You are wonderful!

  • i learned more about deejaying in 30 minutes than in an entire week of searching and reading. -THANKS ELLAskin!!

  • i have never had such experience

  • haha ''TWO SOURCES'' n take that.. ur awesome bro.

  • 5:52... well that's kinda rude... :P

  • hi....J

my mixer doesnt have the 'balance' controll..........what shall i do?

  • When DJing with headphones do you always hear the music in the headphones first? how? how do you cue music into the head phones and not the PA?

  • When matching the tunes I do a combination ofadjusting the pitch and manually touching the platter at the same time to get the two tunes in time. I notice you slowed the pitch and then brought it back where was somewhere near where it'd been before. I only ask because some people do ask dj's why they're touching the platter. it's just the way I find you get the absolute minimum amount of 'clang' so it's barely noticeable.

Anyway, keep up the cool vids - your enthusiam is legendary!

  • lol im listening in mono !!!

  • hey can i get a track id for the left channel please! sounds sick

  • see just like you can hear his pitch bending when he changes speed, cuz he can accurately monitor both tracks while wearing headphones on both ears, thats why they have monitors.

  • thanks but i dont think my little two channel mixer can do that:)

  • Yep i am a beginner and it´s hard to beatmatch listening from HP and monitors.

it´s easier to have music from monitors and your both HP on and doing it from your HP.

Do you need to beatmatch listening from 1 source from monitors and 1 source from you headphones?

  • It may seem easier, but if you mix that way you will not be able to hear what the room is hearing, If you insist on wearing HP on both ears while you mix, I would make sure you check the room as much as you can. If I were you I would keep practicing and split up your hearing. Trying having your headphone only close enough to your ear to hear the snare or hats. I've been DJing 10 years, just letting you know that im not a noob

  • what cap is that? i like it.

BTW: keep up the good work!

  • thanks man love urs vids its a big help!

  • First time I've ever heard you forget to say 'practice and enjoy', mate! =) Cheers!

  • it was like interactive television..nice...great idea how to mix...i use headfone fader so slide him half way to beat who is playing and half way to monitor channel,so i here mix before its relesed..ellaskin you are crazy and cool in same moment...good dj by the way...prtc+joy=music

  • IF I HAVE A PC AND A MIXER ABD HEADPHONES i need 2 SOUNDCARDS for cross fade and other..? pls..i buy a JBSsystems headphones mixer and the cross dosentwork ..others works but not 100%

  • thanks a lot to take the time to give good advices...

  • brill thanks

  • well i dont have a balanca control for every channel just one for the master =/... well ill get it^^

  • @lukasmaximilian another tip for practising this if you dont have pan/balance control on you mixer for channels individual is the upplug one of the wires marked R/L or red/white in colour on each channel on the mixer...ya will basicly get the same effect... very good tip for practise... PRACTISE AND ENJOY :)

  • yeah thx... well meanwhile i got it^^ im on traktor scratch pro its a lot of fun.... wow im mixing for year now...^^ didnt know that^^.....

  • ite... i have my own decks onlu jus started but i dnt know how to match beats beacuse i dnt know witch one is going faster or slower?

  • Well I guess I cannot be much of a help since i only use software to dj...yet. But there is software that counts bpm for you, maybe even freeware. That way you'll get an idea how fast your tracks are going.. But i think modern cdjs do that for u to i just dunno if ur using vinyl etc. Hope i could help and i was right with some stuff

  • Any Media player like FooBar shows the BPM

  • will u plz post a video on how to mix trance eg the drill or revolution etc

  • As a DnB DJ, depending on what song it is, I like to boost the high eq and use the PFL to get a nice balance then work it out from there. I'll have to give this a go though.

  • Hi J

One p[rob with this Ive just got a DJM 400 and it dont have L and R wich is a bit odd any tips

  • hi , take the left rac out of the right dk and the right out of the lef deck, now mix without head phones

  • my ears just cant pick up and recognise whether the beats are in time or not. i think its in time and my mates are like na its completely out of time. do i need to train my ears or something? and how do i do that? i no its all about practise but i just dont seem to be goin anywhere. some1 help!

  • hi i like all videos.u actually answerd to all my questions on headphones mixing>>

  • Hey man, respect, youre a genius! The tune "been a long time" by the fog i have managed to find, but there are so many versions of it, and i really want this Kerri Chandler esq track, so could you please please tell me the name, remixed by etc? Thanks, AudioTwiddla

  • Whats the name of the first song ????????

    thx

  • Nice T-shirt, I'm welsh :D

  • One small thing. I can eventually get the songs in sync. but...when the song dramatically changes and i have to do the whole getting them back in sync again thin.

  • Thankyou, it was so obvious but i'd never thought of doing that!

  • yo bruv dammmmn that first tune is so fucking good pls pls pls pls tell me the name of it if you can.

  • Gracias por tus videos. Son muy interesantes.

    Saludos!

  • where can we hear you in mixing??bless

  • thanks!!! I like ur videos! keep doing it! its helpfull! peace!

  • very nice work! Im an intermediate DJ (I think haha) and I find your videos very helpful and funny! Anyways, I think you can achieve the same effect if you use Split Cue on your mixer. Although i think only a few mixers have that (medium to high price ones)

    Keep making videos mate!

  • Ahhh! You make it look so easy :/ too bad its not.

  • BTW on a mixer, with only master balance knob, like mine you can do exactly the same, just pull out the red jack from your left mixer input or turntable/CDplayer output and the white one from the right one.

  • for house I've found that listening to the beat through the headphones equally has helped immensly throughout my djing. I see lots of DJs do the "touch/drag" with their fingers and I always shake my head. Doing this will result in unequal beat measures later on. For DnB I find it easier to acomplish perfect beat matching doing it your way. Perhaps because I've spun house far longer than DnB? anyhow, I like that you are breaking it down for those that dont know. Hit em with knowledge.

  • Thanks for that , i feel knowlage is for shairing. peace bro! johnathan

  • Tught me quite a lot!

keep up the good work man

  • thanks!!

  • Woah, really well explained. been mixing for a few years now and my beat matching is pretty good but i have always used touching the platter for slight catch up or down. the way you're doing it looks waaaay better. gonna give that a shot this very evening. cheers mate. quality work.

  • thanks dude! johnathan

     dj tutor

  • Thanks to people like you it gives me the buzz to carry on! johnathan dj tutor

  • again nice work i learn alot of this :) only i got 1 prob i got a numark belt driven tt1610 and a standaard numark mixer and all i can do i pump up the base and gain volume so i need to buy a new mixer prolly from bherminger where i can do that left and right thingie (now i need to start saving my money again :P)

  • Go for it dude!!

  • You're doing good work, man :)

  • OK. Most of the mixers I've used only have balance for master out - if at all. Besides, I always used to have more trouble with split cue than with a cue/main mix knob.

    The trick is:

1: Always start the new track from the first beat in a phrase, and match that phrase to the next.

2: If you can't hear the difference, turn up the high cut on the cue track.

    Beatmatch using the TOP END.

  • yea i had a lot of trouble separating the 2 songs in my head, but after a couple of months it wasn't an issue any more. i guess you just gotta practice and eventually it just sorts itself out on it's own, just like most things when you practice enough.

  • i just spent the evening watching your videos :D pending arrival of a pair of 1200s at the weekend, can't wait to put into practice all your tuitionage. I love your hat :P
