  • Klaus possessed such a gentle demeanor. It's unfortunate that people don't recognize the talent and vocal and visual art he was so keen at expressing. I love you KLAUS!!!

  • scary maze game?

  • While beautifully performed here by Nomi, it should be noted that 'The Cold Song' was composed circa 1691 by Henry Purcell for his dramatic opera 'King Arthur'.

Thanks.

  • Nobody else made an Elizabethan collar look so good.

  • I Feel Happy, I Like Cake! This town Has No Escalators?

  • Did anyone else find Nomi from Wir sind die nacht movie?

  • I never really heard of Klaus before and i am a huge David Bowie fan. I faintly remember seeing one of his videos when i was a child and the big blown out suit somehow burned into my mind been listing to what i can find just amazing stuff truly ahead of its time even by today's standards.

  • what a unique and splendid creature "o_O"

  • oh dear! Dreadful, just dreadful.

  • Gaga does it because she craves attention, Nomi did it because he was German. Huh? Is that supposed to be funny? Or are you saying that German people crave attention? And why are there 8 people clicking away at the thumbs up? I defy any one of you to explain what's funny about that brainless comment?

  • @Frickeepooify I think what KevServo was saying is that Lady Gaga does the whole costume bit and slightly non mainstream music because she is seeking attention whereas Klaus did it because he is German (and by that I'm gathering Servo himself is German and believes that Klaus did it because it was something he felt he needed to and followed through with it) I don't really think there was any attempt at making a joke at someone's expense.

  • NOMI FOREVER!!!!!!!

Klaus Nomi, one of the first Opera/Rock singers leaders, German, who was one of the first to die due to AIDS.

  • Nice guy, still scares the shit outta me though.

  • He had such a great voice... It's sad that he sang this with the last lyrics "Let me let me freeze again to Death" and that he died next month...

  • @fridaythethirteenfan I don't know where you heard that he died within a month after recording "The Cold Song," because it's definitely not true. I would even question whether or not he knew he had AIDS at the time he recorded the Cold Song. Besides, as you notice in the lyrics, he says Let me freeze AGAIn to death. He was previously dead, then ressurrected by some power that "has made me rise unwillingly and slow." Closer to his death he sang "After the fall we'll be born, born, born again.

  • @Frickeepooify The album that "The Cold Song" is on was released 1981, so he recorded the song at least 2 years before his death. From my reading I understand he was aware of his illness in 1979-1980, so he would have known when he was doing this song.

What the person you're responding to was probably thinking was of a live performace that he did of this song weeks before his death. His visibly gaunt and weak, saddening but amazing.

  • @Jagjamin Ok, perhaps he was aware of AN illness in 79-80, but he would not have known it was aids, or probably even that it would cause his death because aids was a total mystery until long after he was gone.

  • @Frickeepooify Granted, at that time they only knew he had essentially no immune system and was chronically ill. It wasn't until 1983 that they settled on a diagnosis close to the unfortunate truth.

  • @Jagjamin So sad. I still miss him. I remember buying his records in the "import" section.

  • @fridaythethirteenfan he DIDN'T die by the way...

  • @fridaythethirteenfan are you fuck kidding me. you call this music i call a peice of shit that only wastes peoples time

  • @zonyno That,s not a problem. For you, every video is a piece of shit and a waste of time. I like it and too bad for you if you have no taste at all.

  • @zonyno okay fag why dont u go back listen ur faggy music JUST IN BEIVER WHIT UR FAGGY BOYFRIEND AND UR LITLE SISTER fucking fag

  • @Noobanez zonyno didn't told ya? It's all over. ANyway, i'm pretty sure you'll never find me and that,s the first step if you want to eat my limbs. next step, try to resist my charm ;)

  • @fridaythethirteenfan Well I can play hard to get but I tend to have a nasty habbit of giving into specific girls, are you one of them is the question?

  • @Noobanez What kind of girls is your type?

  • @fridaythethirteenfan A girl that is violent, sexy (Cute, Hot, Idc) and doesn't mind me laughing my ass off at some dude that is getting brutally murdered in a video game or movie (Horror=Comendy 4 me).

  • @Noobanez Violent, check

    Sexy, check

    Horror=comedy same 4 me.

  • @fridaythethirteenfan Very Kinky. Very Kinky and Sexy indeed. We need to eat some Orphan Meat together sometime.

  • @Noobanez Allright. You live in America?

  • @fridaythethirteenfan Australia

  • @Noobanez Aouch... It's going to be hard... I live in Canada...

  • @fridaythethirteenfan Hmm, this is quite sad, so I am best of eating some Orphan Meat. Yummy Orphan Meat.

  • @Noobanez I'll do the same thing as you.

  • @fridaythethirteenfan Yum Yum Yum Orphan Meat.

  • @Noobanez We should meet so we can eat orphan meat and laugh our ass at some dude and stupid blonde girls who get killed by some badass killer.

  • @fridaythethirteenfan Sounds good, yummy Orphan Meat...

  • @zonyno youre kidding this is one of the best songs ever, and what a kind of music are you listening Justin Bieber

  • klausnomicoldgenius.blogspot.com/

  • he left early... Why? :(

  • WTF THIS IS A GIRL?

  • er ist sooo wunderbar..

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE :X

  • View my channel to read the research paper I wrote on Klaus Nomi's life, music, and his last stage performance. Click on the link on my "Website"

  • hiya schaut mich an bin ein frosch

  • oooh nomi is really fabolous, i really like this type of music, can someone tell me other groups or artists thta sound like nomi"s style, because i really like this style of music, he really is a geneus!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jmanolete888 This is a piece by an English bloke from the baroque period called Henry Purcell for his opera King Arthur.

  • haunting song, never heard of him 'til now, looks like a masonic enspired outfit?

  • sublime!

  • I'm kind of stick of going on every video and seeing all this mentioning of Lady Gaga when she has nothing to do with the artist........wanna talk Gaga? go to a Gaga video, this however is a Klaus Nomi video so let there be soon Klaus discussing =D

  • geil wer will mit mia schreiben

  • Venture Bros. ;P

  • this is my kind of guy XD

  • ... welch Stimme ...

  • Se monsieur restera toujours exeptionnelle.

    Merci

  • @FilthyPazuzu You're first comment totally threw me off, LOL. I was like...wait, what did I do? But yeah, at least we're not alone. It seems there are other people who aren't too thrilled about all this bickering. @NESHero Pretty much! Guess all we can do is not join in. I spend enough time fighting with my mom, I'll pass on the strangers! Haha

  • I think every artist needs inspiration, but some of them, like Gaga should stop saying: I invented all my songs and my outfits by my own... . Cause we know that´s a lie... .

  • GREAT.

  • how come the only good song he has is simple man

  • @harleymccoy123 thats only an opinion, i happen to like his other songs.

  • I like how his dress style incorporates a piss take of freemasonry , at least I think its a piss take as I doubt if gays are welcome in the free Masons, having said this much his voice is sensational I listen to him often. A thing of beauty is a joy forever

  • @lyricalmastermime Seriously, though, you're absolutely right. It's not just YT, either. I've noticed the 'Comments' sections of quite a few webcomics have lately become populated with a large proportion of combative children. Same thing with Transformice. It sucks that it's all too easy to get sucked into some of these argy-bargies.

  • why people talk about lady gaga here?can´t they just forget that bitch?

  • Weit seiner Zeit voraus.......ein Künstler !

  • You just know tsyrib is gonna do a "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE" video for gaga in the not so distant future >.> lol

  • Yeah, i'm with trinitybloods on this one...I used to enjoy reading people's comments on Youtube (mostly on my favorite videos) and praising my favorite artists with other loyal fans...now I wince everytime I accidentally take a glimpse at the comment section. Everyone's always fighting about something -__-

  • @lyricalmastermime If they are not fighting, they are talking about giving a thumbs up or that 19 people don't deserve ears.

  • @lyricalmastermime I find deeply offensive your characterization of YouTube commenters as belligerent. I don't start fights with other people! How could you POSSIBLY think that someone like me could enjoy arguing about such petty concerns? I hate people like YOU. I bet you don't even like Nomi, I bet you're one of those people who just has to show the world how 'cool' you are by saying you're a fan of some artist from way back in the day, meanwhile you've only been listening to them for a week!!

  • cela est génial

  • Beautiful voice

  • always adored his music, so i searched today and glad i found here ! Thank you 4sharing ;) and btw. Lady Gaga is gaga ...Klaus Nomi has been a real artist !

A comparison with this lady would underestimate his great music and performance, thats just the way it is...

  • Unique !

  • punk on its best

  • He is just a genius!

  • this song reminds me of the music from scarface.

Gracias amigo, gracias. Elevo mi alma con tus cantos imposibles. Joder! odio no haberte conocido, regresa! Te necesitamos!!!!

  • What an artist he was! The only one who made me like opera, the only one! That's a very big succes because ordinary I simply can't listen to it, he was one of a kind, that's pretty sure! Maybe not the artis of a generation, surely the most talented!I wish, I knew him at those times, Unhappily for me I wasn't born yet, however, may he rest in peace he deserves it aso much better than alot of people!

  • Brilliant!!

  • goosebumps all the way... klaus nomi was one of a kind

  • BUENAS NOCHES, ZIGGY.

  • What I can't abide is people crediting Gaga with creating some kind of original sound and look, when it is evident that there are artists of the past century who were way ahead of her in terms of innovation. Everything Nomi did with care and refinement, she has made garish and overbearing. I deeply resent her.

  • @Messylin " people crediting Gaga with creating some kind of original "

Yes, and Gaga has copied way too much from Grace Jones too!

  • @Messylin I absolutely agree. Well said.

  • @Messylin

I love what she does. I don't love that she doesn't acknowledge her influences.

  • @Messylin Hm...Nomi copied too, as it seems....If Credit is due for this Song for Example, than it goes to Henry Purcell.

Still not a bad Singing, though.

  • @Messylin Why would you resent Gaga? She hasn't once claimed she was original or groundbreaking. If you're going to waste your time feeling bitter, resent the people who say she's innovative, not Gaga

    .

  • @GlitterTitzz Agreed, it irritates me when people say she goes about saying this........she wears her influences on her sleeves and mentions them (or used to at least) them in interviews. Most people also seem to forget that Gaga wears the fashion designers clothing that doesn't get much attention because it's abit more out there.

  • @Messylin I know that you probably know this by now, however I wouldn't resent Gaga...She's bringing Klaus back to life with her music and image. She said in an interview that Klaus was her inspiration for the whole shebang that she does. I would give her some credit for at least having great taste in music.

  • @Messylin Comparisons ruin everything. Why must people compare two innovative artists and argue over which is more innovative?

  • @rikolasdf She or he is not. They're saying that Gaga gets the credit for everything when clearly as they said "artists of the past century were way ahead of her in terms of innovation". Also, she goes overboard with it, and I still can't forgive her for that wasteful and murderous meat dress. I'm right with Messylin in terms of resenting her.

  • magnificent

  • This is the best rendition of Purcell's "Cold Song" I've heard.

  • in 86 it was not cool to be a nomi fan,in highschool,,but i was there

  • UN GRANDEEE

  • normal is a setting on the washing machine.

  • absolute superspitze

  • nomi can make a stone cry.

  • Bashing on Gaga doesn't prove you're smart/unique/cultured. Now let's just all listen to the weirdly awesome and very talented man featured in this video.

  • brilliant. brilliant. brilliant. oh did i mention he's brilliant? :D

  • please stop mentioning gaga in the presence of art, talent uniqueness. it' s like comparing mozart to bieber. if you don't know who mozart is, keep going with bieber, there is no hope for you anyway.

  • I cannot believe that Gaga is in every video... comments about her in Bjork's videos for example. I don't care about her, not for good nor for bad. But is amazing how much people talk about her.

  • the biggest difference between klaus and the other fashion victims is THE VOICE

  • Why is Lady Gaga even being mentioned?

  • @ButterflyFeerie I really don't get what she has to do with anything as she's an entirely different genre. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

  • @jeweladdict72 My thoughts exactly.

  • WTF why are people even bringing up that bitch gaga in the presences of Nomi

  • Klaus Nomi and Lady GaGa would of made a nice couple.

If Klaus was straight of course, imagine them singing together.

  • @miltonluvsno1 Please no.

  • Why does everything has to be compared to Lady Gaga or Justin what's-his'name? I'm sure Gaga and Justin are good at what they do in the way they do it, but PLEASE let us enjoy the artists for what they do, instead of comparing Lego to pudding all the time!

  • The only thing that Lady ga ga and Nomi have in common is their love of dick !!

  • @markx64 Can you please stop posting comments about dicks, you sure need to cure yourself.

  • @eddieguerrero1991 no way !!!!

  • it wasn't a matter of being gay or not. He was misunderstood only because he was a real artist and he put all his passion in his art.

  • Imagine a duett with Klaus Nomi & Freddie Mercury

  • @didirocksagain Or Klaus covering "Where is my Mind" by the Pixies

  • @didirocksagain You, sir, may have all of my internets.

  • @didirocksagain

If there is an afterlife, maybe Derek Jarman is filming the music video of that duet.

  • 14 people are deaf

  • I'm so fucking sick of hearing about Lady Gaga. As amazing as she is, and as much as I love her, not everyone is either a) trying to be like her, or b) she's trying to be like them.

Fucking get over it. This guy and gaga and nothing alike, he sings opera, her music is pop, there look is completely and utterly different. So stop going on about it.

  • Nomi was well ahead of his time, bizar, authentic, different... daring, unusual as an artist should be. May he rest in peace (and Purcell too...)

  • Amazing & Beautiful!

  • WOW .... o_O Totall. blew mE THE fUCK aWaY..It wAS beautiful

  • Stop Lady Gaga-ising, SHUT UP and listen to this... Such wonderful music/lyrics... True art.. A baroque lament resurrected!

  • lady gaga sucks -_-

  • Comment removed

why do you say nomi and lady gaga in one sentence? lady gaga and omi is like 50 cent and mozart.

  • It seems like every Nomi video has a reference to Lady Gaga in the comments... Can't anyone like them both??

    kein Urteil anmassen...

  • Opera genius of a new age! Unique performance.

  • Stop talking about that gagging lady..

She doesn´t care if the attention given to her is negative, as long as it´s attention..

So do not mention her at all! She isn´t worth being mentionned next to Klaus Nomi or other artists simular to his greatness.

  • Why the fuck is lady gaga brought into EVERYTHING?

  • fucking amazing

  • This guy might have gone on to do great things if it weren't for that dick-in-the-ass thing he was into

  • Great Person in music R.I.P.

  • a true god among men! LONG LIVE KLAUS NOMI!!!

  • @georgieboy167 hes dead dude

  • @georgieboy167 hes dead dude

  • @banacoan You know people can say "long live ___" in reference to something that's dead or no longer/never was in physical existence, right? Like I could say "long live anarchy," or "long live Queen (the band)," and meaning by it "long live [whatever it was that what I just said stood for/the memory of the thing I just said]," not always necessarily referring to the physical body of something.

  • This is ALMOST as CRIMINAL as Matteo's rendering of Pop Purcell (at least this version had a GALACTIC harpsichord-Synthesizer and the vid was ... O_o interesting)

  • Awesome. I always loved the harpsichord. Almost reminds me of SOTN.

  • The Cook The Thief His Wife & Her Lover...

  • Is basically the 1st time I hear Klaus Nomi... this man was a great opera singer o.o !! I guees I'll never hear a voice like this.

    Wonderful songs :) !!!

  • Klaus Nomi was the greatest men's "mezzosopran" voice of every time

  • one of the reasons Klaus is better than gaga is because he's out there, he's wierd, unusual, and not everyone likes it. lady gaga is just a product mix between marilyn manson and madonna. Klaus was honest with his craziness, lady gaga puts on whatever her marketing team tells her to

  • @Preliator0 I almost raped the 'thumb up' button....-.-

  • @Preliator0 No, there ain't no Marilyn Manson in the Lady Gaga shell. There's Madonna and more Madonna. If Lady Gaga had any Manson in her, she'd actually have some brutal rock songs worth listening to.

  • @Preliator0 - I don't see your point? You're comparing things that have nothing in common.

  • @Preliator0 why do you even care to compare nomi with gaga? thats stupid. art vs. comerce? genius versus puppet...

  • @Preliator0 How do you know she only wears what her marketing team tell her to? Are you actuallly there when she gets dressed? I can tell you I have actually met her & she is one of the sweetest most genuine people I have ever met. This Klaus may well be good at what he does, but that is no reason to make unfounded claims about Gaga. Doing that makes you no better than an airhead who thinks its only possible to like one artist at a time. Whats wrong with diversity in art?

  • @Preliator0 What do you mean with he's out there? he is already dead.

  • @Preliator0 Really, how would you know?

How could you know without having ever talked to her?

You've only made an assumption. Thats neither an accurate nor honest judgment. To say that she is dishonest with who she is as a performer is invalid. You limit her to an influence and product of Marilyn Manson and Madonna as well as her marketing team. Thats a very narrow-minded perception of Lady Gaga and an unreasonable conclusion.

  • @Preliator0 True.

  • @Preliator0 Not to mention Klaus wasn't the only thing that's out there. His music is original and just as weird as he was.

Lady Gaga, on the other hand, just makes standard pop music - nothing incredibly bad about it (outside it being uncreative and bland pop music), but nothing special, either.

  • @Preliator0 She still writes her own music, which, compared to Rihanna, Beyonce, et ala, etc, ad infinitum, does not constitute her being a soldier of her "marketing team." Why would any of these artists do what they do without the hope of even having a marketing team? To get to that point is every musicians dream. Do they really want to work at 7/11 the rest of their lives? NO. She's living every artist's dream. Don't rip on the GAGA.
