Mr Krugman is a brilliant man but it is hard to take him seriously as an objective economist. Rather than crafting an economic view and letting it influence his politics it's obvious that he start with his political views and makes his economic stance fit it.
smokers, obese, people who don't get their vaccines, who don't exercise, all pay the same rates as people who have healthy habits in the single payer and employer based system, which makes both systems unfair, inefficient and costly!
Hey SGB, you should be happy I left in Krugman's arguments in favor of single payer. I don't think my title is an unfair characterization of his statement at all. He is trying to convince single payer advocates that the public plan is worthy of their support. He isn't the first prominent Democrat to admit this either. Do you want me to steer you to some others?
Actually, he did. At 0:51 "...(single payer) is hard to do in one step."
1:07 "...whereas something that let's people keep the insurance the have, but then offers the option of a public plan, then evolve into a single payer..."
The first 30 seconds he extolled the virtues of the single payer system, with the only negative - politically not viable to get it directly. Then said he hopes we'll have a hybrid this year.
Single payer is the way to go. Americans are so clueless. I wish they'd travel more.

Goal is single payer, hybrid now, "evolve".
That would be incremental.
Cheers.

no, he didn't say it is an incremental step towards single payer "Krugman admits" is just a joke ...

Yep, you got it right. Krugman wants the government to control the economy, education, health care... just about everything it can get its hands on.
