When I first listened to this album, I was left utterly devastated. This is the opening song, and if it don't bust up your insides, well then, you ain't human.God bless you, Jessi..
This freaking incredible album deserved MUCH more promotion than it received. So gorgeous, so much talent. Waylon, Jessi, Clapton, etc. Unfortunately, I think the record's appeal was limited because it was a Civil War "theme" and no one in the North gave a rip, late 70s, and the album was not "satin & sequins" enough to get played in Southern radio. People of soul and wisdom, however, loved this record. So did people who just plain liked danged good songwriting.
@Vengeance509 I reckon music should be judged as music and not influeced by political bias the Civil War is fact and nothing in our or future lifetimes will change the outcome ..so sit back and enjoy the show after all we aint done bad so far .. thanks for the comment.
'' White Mansions '' was the only album by Waylon Jessi and co, it was a concept album about the Civil war, an idea conceived by Englishman Paul Kennerly... there is another album the legend of Jesse James , That is with Johnny Cash, Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris and Charlie Daniels. I aint heard that and couldn't tell you much about it .I think White mansions is still available from Amazon tc my friend
@oddballlimos I really couldn't tell you that but I still possess an original gatefold with insert and all I will say is that it is a really beautifully themed and produced album, the songs of which still haunt when I hear them.
This was one of the best, most criminally overlooked albums of the late 70s. Waylon, Jessi, Eric Clapton, etc. were so awesome.
Jessi's voice here is *classic* Jessi Colter--the Jessi Colter who was her own star of the 70s, before she dropped out of the scene and became just "Waylon's Wife." People forget how good she was on her own, but Waylon was never bothered by her success, nor she by his. This album is legendary, to my mind.
I agree with most of what you said, what i ain't to sure about is i don't believe Jessi was just ''Waylons wife'' but i do believe she was 100% part of the show... and yea it sure is a great concept album written by Paul Kennerly
I don't mean to say she was "just" Waylon's wife. I think people forget she was a big star, with her own following, for a brief time. Jack Clement did a cool interview about that a year or so ago. But Jessi, after making her mark, was clear about her priority: taking care of her husband and child from 1979 onward. I admire her for that. My point is: too many dismiss her; she was a big star on her own label, independent of Waylon, for a time. Kennerly is of course a master. This album proves it.
I saw Paul Kennerley perform some of the songs from White Mansions at the Old Wembley festival Remember those days Alf...i wish thy still had them...thx

Very nice.
I love Jessi; one of the best things that happened to Waylon, what a lady.
