This is probably my favorite LucasArts game. Not because it's better than Monkey Island or Day of the Tentacle, or the Indy games even, but just for the memories I have playing it.
I have played all the games again recently and none made me as nostalgic as when I played this one. Full Throttle came close. Beautiful game and beautiful music!
This is so great that you made this music videos with gameplay. Now I can see how it works and if I whod whant to get it..... and I DO. Thank you. Great music proops to you Garudoh
I was playing this at uni, and when I stopped, it felt like coming out of a trance.. from another world. I've never had a feeling quite like that, of grandeur and mystery : )
Garudoh, I'm glad you put this masterpiece at the big 300 marker in your series of uploads. I think this game may be my favoritre PC game of all time, even though I didn't play it nearly as much as a bunch of other great titles. I had no idea they were thinking of making this game into a movie, but then again, it's been a good 12-15 years since I played it. One thing's for sure - The Dig is magic.
Yes he was. In the credits(both intro and ending) there actually was mentioned that whole concept of this fantastic game is based on Spielbergs idea :-)
Yeah I've read about it (now). I think Spielberg wanted to have an episode like this to his tv series but it would have been too expensive, so the concept was made into a game.
By doing more research I also discovered that Spielberg has worked with Medal of Honor (boo!) and Boom Bloxx (hooray!).
I believe it's all available for free several places on the webs :) There are two soundtracks as far as I know. I'll link here in reply right after I've found something.
What an amazing, creepy, haunting, incredible game. I NEED to find this game ASAP and give it another run through. I loved the sci-fi aspects when I was like 8 and I'm sure I'll love the deep story now that I'm much older.
Where the heck did Michael Land go? This guy could make any game a classic, and I'd love to hear him with an orchestra to back up his vision. The last soundtrack he made was A Bard's Tale...in 2004 :(
I just played THE DIG for the first time about 3 weeks ago...
Man! 99% of videogames get worse as time progresses. But this one is definitely just as incredible as it was back in 1995. What a glorious story and world that young and adult would love.
The music was by far the best part of this excellent game, and helped it stand above a lot of the other great point-and-click adventure games of its time.
My favorite tracks aren't on this, but they share this foreboding theme that plays first in the asteroid core as if a subtle warning of the danger ahead. You hear it again towards the end in the Map Spire when things start to come together.
This Game with it´s unrepeatable and wonderful Soundtrack will stay in my heart forever! Ah i miss those old Lucasarts Adventures so much they had real soul and deeperness. Not that shit games that come out today.
The Dig was really one of the best and most affecting video game experiences I have ever had. I really hope it is made into a film someday. The story is really dynamic and would translate well to the screen. Plus there's all the good messages in the story about love, greed, etc.
yea Earlier LucasArts really did alot of good games and yes i do include the early dark forces and rebal alliance games that you use a joystick for...great years
Finally got my hands on this soundtrack and let me just say... I'm in awe of its beauty. This is just so very ethereal and magical. I must admit that I'm kinda sad you didn't put up "A River Canyon". That song made me cry. I fell in love with the voice as it carried me off into far away worlds in my mind.
Glad to see you're still getting new stuff, Gypsy. Been a while since I made this one, but I do remember having a hell of a hard time narrowing it down to 10 minutes.
If it weren't for you I wouldn't have a clue about all the many VGM gems. I'd never even heard of this game!
Its rare when I can say there isn't a single track on an OST that I didn't like. Really, you could've thrown up any one of them. "Ghosts" is really quite amazing and was the first to really grab me. "Cathedral of the Lost" is lovely as well.
It's rather a shame had potential to be so much more but was hot-potatoed through three development teams. Originally The DIG was gonna be more survival-based with a water and food counter you had to keep topped as well as more consistent graphics, then the original team stopped and then another tried, then another to make the game here.
It's awesome and I love it always still, even now.
This Game was amazing. It created an unbeatable and unrepeatable atmosphere together with the music. I hope there will be a Film of this Game made..it would be so great.
some of the dig music were taken from the third indiana jones movie...if you listen to the music in the scene when they are with the old knght who guards the holy grail.
An amazing game. That turtle puzzle was so annoying. In the credits it says that this was originally going to be a movie, but they changed it for lack of funding or something. I guess I'll go ahead and be the first to say it here: SPARTA!

Wasn't Spielberg involved with this game? Well, despite that, it's still one of the best games of all time.
