Absolutely fantastic. Is there a way for you guys to load the full version of the song? I was in a park in Manhattan listening to mbira music this past summer and absolutely loved it...so did the other 200 or so people who attended!
Marenje. A very beautiful song on mavembe tuning. There is a tutorial posted on my page for those who have this tuning mbira and are interested in learning this song. Enjoy.
I am from Zimbabwe the origin of this beautiful instrument, I am touched to see other people playing it well, keep up the good work guys, we need more people like you. enjoy.
This is sacred music, only played to invoke our dearly departed spirits. The art and craft to play this spiritual instrument is divine. Its not supposed to be acquired by learning, but to be given by the spirits. I am baffled that white people (not in a racist way)can master this art. Its so difficult to play that instrument. Kudos to them. Cecil John Rhodes was buried in stone at our ancestral shrine, Matopos Hills. He is therefore also our ancestor. No wonder these folks can play mbira.
wonderful! 9 tribes ( miji kenda tribes) of kenya play the same instrument n its called 'kiringongo'. those guys can understand some shona and lots of chichewa. some of their names are like muramba, kazungu, kadzo, mwarema etc
maravilloso ensamble, yo soy de mexico y toco el marimbol cubano. asi interpretamos el son jarocho en mi tierra, espero tener noticias suyas... felicidades y un saludo
Excellent! I'm a South African and I play classical guitar. I love mbira! I await the day when we'll have cd's of just mbira music without any singing or anything else. This instrument should not be made to accompany only. I once met a Bushman virtuoso who preferred not to have the buzzing tones and he sounded amazing! Long live African polyrhythm!
Sorry bout the late reply! We also call them mbira, kalimba and some other names. Really depends where in the country you are and which tribe you're speaking to. In the north especially, it's called mbira.
I'm a Zimbo and cannoot play mbira. I felt so touched by these guys. I love this music to bits! Next time I go home on holiday, i will bring a set and start playing.
Guys you put zimbabwean blacks to shame as many of them do not even know how to play yet own one, please guys try and ogarnise to play in a pub or something so we can all come and see the white man showing that this is a beatifull instrument and holds no colour only if you are in Uk. Makapenga wena.
