For those of us who were in Sac during the J-Will days, this was fun. Was he a bit out of control? Sure, but he brought excitement to the game. The King's mistake with him was that they didn't have an older experienced point guard for him to learn the less flashy aspects from.

Watching tape of Williams, not only does it strike me that he's out of control and thus totally at the whim of momentum rather than holding dominion over it, as any truly outstanding or all-time great point should (not that Williams ever came close, but certainly the publicity surrounding him created the impression of such impact), but that his passing ability -- trickstyle -- far outpaces his court awareness.

He misses the seems far too often. Fundamentally flawed. A headcase.

You make not like Jason Williams flare or showmanship but you can't tell me that Williams was a 'joke'. Teams don't start 'joke' point guards if they didn't possess the necessary skills and talents it takes to be an elite level player.

Jason Williams, although undisciplined, was one of the most exciting players to watch and people actually bought tickets just to see him play.

And what does that have to do with how he played when he was getting hyped? Take away the flash, and you have mediocrity as standard and placement for Williams.

That's what my point was, and what you'd clearly like to ignore.

Williams being compared to John Stockton is a joke, as are you for defending such a position by proxy.

He was a great team mascot.

Furether, A/TO ratio is a great stat, particarly for high usage rate players, which Williams was not. It will, for example, demonstrate that Stockton was more accurate with the ball than any of the other great PGs.

But, at the same time, it won't tell you about pace -- the PG's ability to control it and the team -- shot selection or the ability to stay in the game mentally.

Williams showed none of these qualities. And never was a high impact player -- at least not on the positive side.

Funny you should mention that, since Williams' problems as a basketball player can be traced to his confusion between nouns and verbs. That pretty much sums up his career, from the woeful to the mediocre.
