it's a shame that two of the most brilliant, amazing films in movie history taint their legacy due to the fact that the history portrayed within is total bullshit...Gladiator and Braveheart...as fantasy films, they are unparalleled...as historical accounts, they are garbage...good thing that I have no problem connecting emotionally to a film that plays loose with the facts...in regards to the music, this is a beautiful song...but the freedom soundtrack of braveheart and platoon are more stirring

However, Gladiator is a wonderful metaphorical portrayal of two kinds of Romans as the Republic's last vestiges transformed into Empire: One Roman steeled by Republican virtues of family, duty, strength, honor. Another Roman corrupted by personal ambition for wealth & power. Meanwhile, most Romans struggled for bare survival. Also, how "panem et circenses" distracted the people and the arena became stage for Roman politics.

The movie is based on Marcus Aurelius a real roman Emperor..Who wanted to give the power back to the senate..Commodus gained power from his fathers mysterious death.. This is what the story is truley based on..Look them up they are both in the history books..I think Riddley Scott told it almost the same as what happened..I will leave that to you the readers to discover..Peaceout
