  • You have done great Job here!! I think Vangelis would like also

  • Great job, well done. Great sounds, all from one synth? Wow.

  • Awesome!

  • great job, man, bravo

  • amazing!!!

  • One sound for its own is great. But a composition out of all is ... (no words)

  • Fantastic! So good work. The Ti polar really seems to have alot of power too.

  • Really good, thanks for the video

  • i am confused about this minimoog flip top design???

  • @MoveOverCasanova

Yes, can someone please tell us whats going on?

  • @Dickgasm yeah yeah, good that you remind me of that matter!

  • This is one of the best realisations I've ever heard of Vangelis' music. Well played, Sir. I especially like how you demonstrated all the component parts before we heard the finished piece. Fantastic work.

  • You rock. brilliant

  • Could you upload the TI patches they are awesome...oh ya...how is your experience with latency with Ableton version 8 and the newest upgrade f the TI OS 4.5?

  • Totally awesome sounds. Just perfect copy of the original sounds used in the movie. I wish you could share some info about how did you create those sounds. For example, which wave forms did you use as a starting point for designing each particular sound. If you could just write down all the parameters of your sounds in some kind Word file and let others learn from it that would be totally awesome. Thanks for sharing this fantastic video. I am totally jealous........ ;)

  • Murphy's Law of music production: The best sounds = the best toys= the biggest bucks.

  • great!great

  • This is just brilliant! Great synthesizer, too bad it's so expensive. :P

  • I nearly jumped out of my chair when you pulled this off. brilliant!

    The Almighty's Blessings

  • yeah bro....amazing

  • nice video!

  • that is very fucking impressive!!!

  • Way cool!

  • awesome!great powerful machine, great "sound building", very great work! congratulations :)

  • That was amazing! One keyboard? WOW! Kudos to you my friend

  • Well, wtf. I thought it was against Youtube's video policy to make a good Virus TI video. Very nice.

  • fantastic

  • So, you could score an entire movie with an Access Virus. I knew it. I have a Virus C, and one of the sounds it had (some customized by the previous owner, a professional recording musician) was exactly like the haunting, humming background music in Portal, so much so that I emailed her about it, but she replied she only wished she HAD worked on the Portal soundtrack, it was so good.

  • Awesome work O.O

    Congratulations!!

  • Lai lietus asaras neaizskalo.......

  • Amazing my freind

  • you are good man thanks for this video

  • awesome video

  • excellent work ! truly superb ! well done.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • Respect for Vangelis and for you! very good work and patience!!;) Greeting from italy!

  • This... is EPIC :|

  • very goo amazing video! sounds sooo deep, feels so fresh again:)

please join the International Vangelis Forum on vangelis. fr if you are interested in exchanging knowledge fun and love to vangelis' music with other his followers from different countries. As an admin, I am officially inviting you :)

  • Magnificent! Keep it up. Greatly enjoyed!

  • Hello!

Your sound is truly fantastic. I didn´t know that was possible with a Virus TI. What kind of synthesis does the synth rely on?

I have a motif xs, which is very versatile, based on sampled waveforms, and I wonder if the virus offers more flexibility.

Thank you for your video anyway!!!!!

  • original video and greatfull synth!:)

  • it would intrigue me to learn of your recording method, and the equipment that you used. The quality is unparalleled by any other video i have seen.

  • @TheDLovas

Thanks very much for listening in, now if only I knew how to upload the patches for everyone here on Youtube

  • @antichicmusic

Hi Anti, if you wished to upload them onto a permanent URL then I can arrange that for you (I'm Timo, admin on the Infekted forum). Drop me a PM if you're interested. Congrats on the vid!

  • @antichicmusic You should make a sound design tutorial on the Virus, to explain in detail how you got to these sounds by listening to the originals ... I would pay money for it

  • @whasssaaahhh

The Virus Tutorial book that comes with the Virus by Howard Scarr is quite good. :))

  • you're a genious my friend.

  • @overdriverevolution

which preset and sound bank is it?

  • @beatsanctuary don't u hate how ppl dont respond....

  • @TheDLovas

    Yup lol

  • Awesome !

  • awesome work

  • hahha Wow dude that is really really clever. Respect.

  • Fantastic recreation of the Vangelis orchestration of these themes & rich harmonies:) Looking forward to your future electronic projects! DeniseX

  • Just amazing !

  • Having owned a CS-80 and being extremely familiar with the Bladerunner soundtrack, I just don't think the Virus gets as deep or is as powerful-sounding, but your efforts are quite amazing nonetheless.

  • Awsome!

    What key is it in?

Can you teach "how to" play or a few bars?

I have a Virus TI 2, could you help in setting parameters and the sequence "how to" create this patch? I've never programmed anything before, just used stock patches. Looking forward to future videos.....Thanks!

  • @adrianh63 you choose a great first synth, but not the best in the world to lean subtractive synthesis on maybe a simple monophonic synth would have served you better to get sound design principals under your belt. It would have been a lot cheaper too.

  • This is cool. Nicely done. That is some great Virus programming.

  • I've seen Blade Runner about, 1,000 times now, and I have to say, your work to recreate this is incredible. Thank you, 1,000 times over.

  • Magic. Excellent video.

  • Absolutely awesome!!! But how on earth did you lift the TI panel up like that, making it look like a MS20?

  • great stuff

  • oh and... favorite!

  • ok dude I just saw the end of your video.. AMAZING.. Respect to vangelis and respect to you sir, that was FANTASTIC!

  • @rustymunga thanks very much for listening, I still wish I would of put some more effort into the sounds. cheers, maybe I will go back and make a multi-file

  • beautiful. and very inspiring. You should create a patch library and send it to me! Very very nice.. I am curious thought.. I have never seen this polar before, with the front panel up like it is.. is this an older model?

  • @rustymunga oh by the way, its a virus polar 1 on which I installed some hinges and replaced the aluminum sides for wood, see the making of in my other video if you like, cheers

  • @antichicmusic I was about to say I've never seen that on a Virus before. Good customization. Amazing how much Vangelis has become part of musical culture. Like Rimmsky-Korsakov.

  • wow. great made!!! *thumps up x3*

  • très chouette! super

  • AMAZING

  • Hey really great!!!

    Thanks for sharing it!!

  • Anti: Very nice. Did you do all of the programming using only the front panel or did you use the software? Been thinking about a virus but I hate menu diving and software.

  • @moretacos1 Hi, thanks for listnening. I used actually both methods. A lot of simple knob twiddling and "fine tuning" by ear on the front panel. But as things were getting complex with all the voices and effects,it was helpful to view and adjust the more hidden parameters from within the Ti software plugin. I think it offers the best of both worlds simultaneously. But I admit, a lot of the time I just use it standing alone as a hardware synth. I would give it a try, the resell rate is also stable

  • Best recreation of this I've heard. My all time favourite soundtrack, you've managed to get some of the depth of the original CS80 sounds. The Virus is a real enigma to me, I think I'd like to get one but most of the demos I hear are so dance biased, full of over-detuned super-saw crap. A really horrible sound. This has made me rethink about getting a TI and dumping all my other synths! Nice one.

  • like it =) greetz from germany

    TI 2 Desktop here ;)

  • Amazing the hairs on my spine stood up

  • well done that man!

  • Awesome!

    Just amazing!

I have a TI 2, can you teach us how to sound design?

What are the notes or chords to the theme?

    Looking forward to Virus videos...Thx

  • Slowly I am blushing.., whilst uploading on youtube the sound got distorted, and now weeks later I am sure I could of done a better job and should of put even more effort into it. Thanks for your comment and thanks to everyone for the motivation!!!

  • Excellent patch programming. I had the polar 6 months before getting the 61 key Ti. Had no Idea It would let you raise the control panel up like that... Is that a TI-2 polar?

  • @module19 thanks for watching...no its a modification I made myself, its the ti1 but I put some hinges on the front panel and changed the aluminium panels for panels made of Amazaque wood. It makes the whole polar weigh less and gives you the option to raise the panel. Easy transport and better knob twiddling! Check out my making of video...cheers!

  • you should make a tutorial on how you modified your ti :)

  • Fucking amazing. One of my favourite films, music scores and synths all in one HIT.

    5 Stars

    DS

  • Big thanks for listening in, its true, the film is more than a milestone in movie history....movie future!

  • How do you add that reverb? Its built in feature in Access? You know how the other guy added that reverb (with his Roland CS70 - that Vangelis sound)? I have Prophet 08, but I think there's no reverb. Any good external reverbs? Great stuff by the way.

  • Hello, thanks for listening...yes its the built in FX from the virus, there pretty good I reckon, although I prefer dry powerful sounds more. Not many of the old analog synths have a reverb built in, usually a chorus & maybe a delay.

I think the Yamaha CS 70 version he made also utilizes the long Amp envelope release instead of to much or extra reverb. I wouldn't know where to start with external reverbs, theres so much out there, its also a lot of trial and error and of coarse, money. Cheers!

  • Ok I have been a hater of Virus sound for very long , but this does sound amazing. I think you have just changed my mind.

You have done an amazing job BUT i think your sounds are abit too harsh for Vangelis style. The brass , close , but need a bit more smooting . And that applies for the rest of the sounds as well.

Still I cannot but admire your skill and effort, Well done, you just shown that VIRUS is a serious synth for seriou people.

  • Thanks, its an honor as I guess you know your way around synths. The Virus is indeed a tricky one when it comes to emulating analogs. I think warm bases are one of its strengths.

I wish access would put more emphasis on further synthesis development instead of FX.And believe me, I would already do things different only a week later but my ears were becoming tired.Only now, I found out how to spread voices wiser and maybe get the pad/strings sound softer...oh well, next time. Cheers

  • Well at least they make hardware synth, we have been drowned by soft synths. Some of them sound very good, but the real thing feel so much better.

I was sad the other day to learn that alesis stoped the production of Andromeda , I feel lucky that I purchased my own on Octomber.

Any way , you opend my eyes to the sound of virus and I thank you for that.

Curious How you feel about Solaris. Seems to me like an excellent analog emulation.

  • @thekilon Wow, youve got the andromeda, surely that must be the most awesome synth to have. Just seeing the amount of circuit boards and the analog chips inside makes me envious. I imagine the Alesis is the ultimate synth for all genres and I'd love to spend some time playing arround on it. The solaris does look and sound interesting and will probably become a hit as a kind of high end v-synth.

  • Andy is not the most analogue sounding like a JUPITER8 or even a prophet 8, but it certainly the closest you can get to a modular. What I love about this synth is how easily it can emulate CS 80.

But if you make these kind of sounds with a virus, I would have to say, that scares me what one can create on an Andy.

I have uploaded some andy videos if you want to hear mine.

Still what matters in the end, is good sound design, anything else comes second.

  • very well done! i've never been able to get through blade runner (tried a couple of times), but this makes we want to give it another go. I own the polar ti2 and you would probably shoot me if you knew that all i do is use presets.

  • @fooloof

You know, the funny thing is that I bought my TI2 Desktop to use as a preset device as well, but I've yet to use a single preset off of it. The thing about having that many presets to browse through is that it ends up being a whole lot faster to just build the sounds you need from scratch than it is to hunt down that 'perfect' or 'close enough' sound for the job.

  • Yeap I agree on that 100% there are just to many presets for my taste, Sometimes when browsing for fun, I am surprised what sounds I come across. I will never find that preset though when I could use it a week later.Less is better. I will have reorganize the banks and probably just use A-D. Its quicker to build your own sounds.

  • i've heard a lot of other people say that; unfortunately, i have zero knowledge of synthesis, to say nothing of creating my own sounds.

  • @fooloof

I think theres a book out there on sound design with the virus.

Once you understand the basic principals you can tweek on almost any synth.

    Oscilators > envelope & lfo > amplitude & filters & pitch

Of coarse theres more but its like a simple subtractive path

  • thanks for the tips! once again, excellent video!!

  • Very nice! Like the video montage with the track too. Great work! :)

  • @notjarre thanks for taking the time to listen in, glad you like it!

  • I am very impressed.

Excellent CS80 sound.....Very close to the original.

  • It looks that you have a lot of fun doing this, love the sound and the detail on FX's. Good job. All the sounds are original presets or you made them?

  • Thanks for watching, I started of with some presets but did a lot of adjustments, also it was tricky with voices.Which surprised me a bit.I thought access boasted 96/polyphonie

depending on FX and synthesis. The Lead sound really took a long time, once you start youre never happy... :0)

  • This is incredible, accurate, beautiful. The synth effects were brilliant :)

  • Cheers for Listening! Glad to hear you liked it

  • That VTI is modified right? I like the Minimoog style swinging panel.

  • Hi thanks for commenting, yes I put hinges on the front panel,I like to have the machines ergonomic it makes twiddling knobs more fun. Have a peek at the other video I made..cheers!
