  • i tried to count sheep before i go to sleep but it didn't help but tonight i'll keep trying and you can do it too

  • This vid is a favorite on Sucre

  • Ernie suppose to count the balloon not blow it up. lol

  • ERNIE: "Um... One?" Hilarious!

  • Bert, I think you would have been better off letting Ernie count the fire engines.

All joking aside, this makes you wonder what Frank Oz may have put up with when the genius Jim Henson was writing his scripts.

As much as we may appreciate the work of the creative genius Jim Henson, working with such a master of creation can be difficult. They flood many of the workers with overwhelming tasks.

(Expecting movie like results with a weekly show when the time isn't there.) .

  • best show i have ever seen ... :)

  • thats a Boob about to blow at 2:20

  • The balloon used to scare the heck outta me as a kid.

  • geez was that a balloon of an atom bomb

  • This was always one of my favorite clips as a kid. I love Ernie and Bert!!!

  • How was Bert able to hear the sounds of the sheep, the fire engines, and the balloon if Ernie was imagining those things making those sounds? Ernie must have a magical mind where any sound he imagines becomes real.

  • This is funny. I wish Sesame Street was still like this.

  • Booommm!

    Bert: Bleep! Bleep!

Ernie: (in a retarded voice) Um....one?

  • hmmm how bout i count erected penises since im bored

  • ernie is on lsd

  • gr8 stuff. :)

  • Funny how their beds have the first letter of their names on the headboard - does that mean this is MY bed, stay the heck off? Or are they just forgetful as to whose bed is which? lol funny clip. Bert panics too easily.

  • KABOOM!!......

    BERT SCREAMS "AGGGGGGGGHH"

    ernie.."um..1

    lmao

  • I still laugh as hard today as I did as a kid watching this!

  • Comment removed

  • haha i laughed my ass off after watching berts reaction at the end

  • I have loved Bert and Ernie for years when watching sesame street with my now grown up children - watch Berts' eyebrows! brilliant.

  • ernie has one loud imagination

  • LOOOOOL

  • Those fags! lmao

  • @stereoskyline334

They're not fags, they don't do anything we can see. It doesn't count if they don't do anything we can see.

  • 2:30

  • Ernie is the only who can count something as harmless as a balloon and still nearly destroy the place :-)

  • Bert is the only one who can sport a unibrow and get away with it!

  • Comment removed

  • 1:48 -- EPIC reaction on Bert's face after that second fire engine XD--- LOL!!

  • Tell you something, Sesame Street was the best childrens learning program ever and still is! nothing in the UK comes close!

  • If I was Bert, I would've killed Ernie. No jury would've convicted me.

  • Looks like Bert finally got to sleep after one balloon!

  • classic!

  • LOOOOOOLLL at Bert jumping at the balloon bursting..I always loved his facial expressions throughout but that fire engine reaction was classic...LOL

  • I remember this clip. I always wanted to mute it, though, because the fire engines and that giant balloon exploding used to scare me half to death, but now I think this is hilarious! The strangest things scare you when you're a five-year-old, don't they?

  • @DreamDancer82 Funny...when I was a child the sound of the sheep's bleating freaked me out! I loved the fire engine and thought the balloon was funny. But the sheep sound was creepy and would stick in my head at night. You're right - the strangest things can scare you as a young child.

  • ernie would drive anybody mad half the time. lol

  • Unlike today's comedy, theirs doesn't suck.

  • Bert and Ernie were the Pete Townshend and Keith Moon of children's puppets.

  • The tragic thing about this segment is that there are places in the world where blood-curdleing explosions in the night are not that uncommon. Thank God it is not in New York yet, but it will come there soon if radical Islam is not stopped. Radical Islam already destroyed the twin towers. It must not be allowed to destroy the sacred American institution known as Sesame Street.

  • @70Kenny

Uh..what's your point? And how does it relate to us getting thrills from Sesame Street? Go post your drivel elsewhere..not where people want to have some good unadulterated entertainment

  • @7777777utopia My point is that too many Americans don't grasp that a huge explosion at night is not at all funny in Iraq, Afghanistan, or increasingly myriad places in what was recently the moderate Musilm world. Ask any American serviceman or woman who has attended to an IED explosion involving children.

  • Haahahhha :D

  • I love Bert's facial expression at 1:48! So frickin' funny!! And then at the end he screams like Miss Piggy.

  • @sabrinalou1 Since Frank Oz did the voice of both Bert and Miss Piggy, its not surprising that their screams sound alike.

  • 2:40, Bert fall down.

  • 5 people didnt have a childhood.

  • I love how the bed shakes as Bert is reprimanding Ernie for counting the fire engines. And his scream after the balloon blows up like it is Pearl Harbor being bombed is hilarious too. One more thing: When he faints, notice how his nose hits the headboard?

  • that wasn't a balloon that was a bomb wonder if thatnoise woke up Susan and Gordon and oh yeah Olivia.

  • Thanks for sharing these priceless old skits!!

  • In what year did they decide to share a queen sized bed?

  • ernie has one loud imagination

  • EVERY time I ever watched this growing up I'd convulse with laughter till I was rolling on the floor. Especially what set me off was Bert's expression at 1:49 here.

  • Bert's being scared out of his sleep by the popping balloons to this day cracks me up!

  • @briansky10

Me too...and that high-pitched shriek just rminds us that Frank Oz also voices Miss Piggy lol

But Bert so frightened and Ernie simply just says "One..." like it's no big deal :)

  • @sweetlife031 I've always found Ernie a most inconsiderate character but he and Bert obviousy have been a hit on Sesame Street since the beginning; otherwise CTW would of gotten rid of them years ago.

Frank Oz is a most versatile voice artist. He does Bert, Miss Piggy, Cookie Monster, Grover, Fozzie Bear, Animal and God knows how many more!

  • @Cause Ernie is a dumb bunny, that's why.

  • @briansky10

Yeah lol...however I do find it strange that when Bert screams, it's obvious the explosion scared him...but take a close look at Ernie while Bert screams. Bert is shaken, but Ernie is laying perfectly still!

  • It really doesn't make sense...

How can imaginary items be so noisy?

  • I guess it was a good thing for the neighborhood that Ernie didn't decide to count tactical nuclear weapons.

  • I can just imagine what Ernie might have tried to count next!

  • When the first fire engine comes and Bert gets up at 1:24 his blanket goes up a bit. Must be Frank Oz's hand controling him.

  • Counting fire engines is too loud - you'll wake up the whole neighborhood!

  • That is one loud balloon! /\_/\

  • Bert's face @ 2:44. lol

  • If Ernie was my roommate I would drown his noises out with my CD player, and then stuff his head in a pillow!

  • I love this skit! Lol, now I understand why Bert is so annoyed with Ernie all the time!

  • lol, that was so funny, that balloon poped and it scared bert, omg, lamo.

  • ernie is right... counting sheeps is a pretty dull thing to do...

  • LMFAO@!

  • LOL Whoever wrote this one really struck gold! It makes old guys like ME laugh.

  • hahahah so sweet

  • no wonder why you two cant get to sleep you dont have any eye lids

  • @tashdog1 lol...that was a good one...you're a fool...lol

  • @tashdog1 LOL

  • @tashdog1 : At least not on this segment. The one where the Count slept over and kept Ernie up all night counting sheep, they gave Ernie eyelids to give him to appearance of having bags under his eyes.

  • Good Lord! I never realized that Frank Oz could scream that loud! LOL! The punch line of "one" at the end is the icing on the cake! :-)

  • @raydavine

That could be a counterpart to Harvey Kneeslapper's raucous blly laughing - which Frank Oz had to quit doing and Harvey got retired - bcause it was too much for Frank's throat to handle.

  • I love it!!!

  • @adamarchambault Bert just lost it when the balloon poped.

  • Wow Iyou have a loud imagination!

  • I once got the neighborhood up in arms for counting fire engines.

  • You're never too young for the Sesame Street "old school" episodes. Much was geared toward mommies and daddies then. You need never apologize to anyone for watching no matter what your age!

  • I miss being young enough to have an excuse to watch this :-(

  • LOOOOOOOL I Like it sooooo match @!@

  • As I got older I thought these two were gay lovers

  • KABOOM!!!!! Funny how it made Bert pass out but not Ernie! It had the opposite effect!

  • This is one of the funniest things they ever did on Sesame Street. Bert sounds like a girl when he screams. :D

  • my favourite gay couple of all times :) <3

  • The next night, Bert gave Ernie some melatonin.

  • Gotta love Bert's scream after the inaginary balloon popped. :)

  • This is top of my list on my fav Bert and Ernies. As a kid I just loved the way the art was done on top of the video. And of course there's Bert's expressions XD

  • ummm..........one lol

  • i remb my mum saying too me count sheep doesnt make you sleepy. lol great video. really funny.

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bert thought they were in an earthquake at 2:30-2:33!!

  • THIS IS THE BEST ERNIE & BERT CLIP. I WATCHED THIS ABOUT A MILLION TIMES AND LOL ALL THE TIME

  • 2:35 :,]

  • @doltoy Sesame Street needs to go back to its roots.

  • This scene is hilarious! I think can relate with Bert sometimes.

  • At the end, Bert finally gets the sleep he needs, by fainting! lol

  • Really funny! Sounds like me and my big brother LOL!

  • LMAO my mom told me when she was single, she was in the office on her break & they played this scene in the breakroom. she said she couldn't stop laughing & her boss was like "...are you having fun...?" LMAO. i'm glad you posted!

  • Oldie but goodie! Bert's reaction is so funny! Poor Bert LOL! Funniest clips of Sesame Street!

  • The part I like best in this clip is the balloon popping loudly. If Bert got shot with a gun, then, the screaming you hear in this clip would sound like it.

  • The siren on the firetrucks Ernie is counting along with the bells sound like a Federal Signal dual tone Model 76 ,77 or 78.

  • It looked like a earthquake hit Sesame Street.

  • @WWEChampion16 I just saw this for the first time only last night (I rented the Sesame Street Old School DVD from Netflix) and I was just howling with laughter here!

  • @disneyfan85 If they had a countdown for the Best of Bert and Ernie, this would be #1.

  • @WWEChampion16 Maybe #2 should be the one where they go fishing, and Ernie manages to catch fish by just calling out to them: "Heeeeere, fishy, fishy, fishy!"

  • LOL Bert's scream!

  • I like this sketch!

  • earnie has one loud imagination lol

  • ummm..........one lol

  • Bert's flipouts are the best!

  • After laughing my head off at this sketch when I was a little boy, it's nice to know that as an adult, I can now still laugh my head off for even more reasons. First off, who would have thought that saying "one" could make such a great punchline to the whole thing? Also, I never realized that Frank Oz could scream that loud! LOL! It's a toss-up between this and their "Cowboy Hat" sketch as their best IMHO.

  • this is one of my favs as well...i was told i sounded like bert screaming when there was an earthquake one night..

  • @TheSaciarestalocura Bert screamed like Miss Piggy there!

  • Bert damn near has a heart attack! xD That balloon popping sonded like the boiler at 123 Sesame Street exploding! LOL Priceless as hell! ROTFL

  • My favorite too!

  • This is my favorite Bert and Ernie scene.

  • Mine too.

  • @dennydog10 I liked it, too. That, and the one where they're out fishing and Ernie catches fish by simply calling out to them.

  • lol I'm not sure how Bert has put up with Ernie for so long. I love conversation but gees at night? Dude shutup so I can get some sleep! lol

  • LISLISA

  • still laughing my ass off after all these years! My favorite Bert and Ernie sketch <3!!!!

  • 30 years later and still funny as hell

  • OH YEA

  • Look at Bert's face at 1:48. LOL

  • Love Bert's screams at the end..lol Jim Henson and Frank Oz were great.

  • Be glad he wasn't trying to count the garbage trucks! Talk about a loud imagination at 3am! That would've been funny if he did wake up the whole neighborhood. This is one of my all time favorites!

  • If I have a hard time falling asleep tonight, I am going to count fire engines!

  • Haha I counted fire engines one night when my friend was sleepin over to be a smartass. Let's just say my Grandma was pissed. Hahahaha fun times!

  • Why is it I laugh just as hard at this now as an adult as I did when i first saw it 40 years ago?

  • Cos it's still so darn funny! ; )

  • @mthivier You've never grown or fully developed yet.

  • That's fer sure! in fact, I think i'm regressing.

  • @mthivier wow

  • That is funny lololololol

  • they were meant to be the odd couple rip off..

  • It is rare but giraffes have been heard so they can make sounds. They hardly ever want to. Femals have been heard calling to the babies. Boy Ernie, you have one loud imagination.

  • so funny!

  • LOL! This was one of the funniest Ernie and Bert sketches of classic Sesame Street.

  • I LOVE Bert's face at 1:49!!!

I'm 41 now and I just loved watching these while I was growing up...thanks for the memories!! :o)

  • Lol. I love the whole idea of counting something EXCITING when you're trying to get to sleep. That's just an awesome idea.

  • I Can't Believe that Ernie "s Stomach Goes up And DOWN WHEN HE BLOWS UP A PRETEND BALLOON

    AT NIGHT

  • Wow, I loved these when I was small :''D

    They're so COOL

  • Oh man, that's so funny when you can actully hear an imagination at 3am, followed by a balloon causing an earthquake! That was such funny stuff back then! Man, that was fun to scare old Bert!

  • what the hell was that?

  • lmao

  • LOL I DIDNT REALIZE HOW FUNNY SESAME STREET WAS WHEN I WAS LITTLE xD

  • @guruboy5

    Yes... I agree =D

  • baaaa! what was that?? BAAA!

  • The funniest Bert and Ernie skit ever. The part where Bert gets scared out of his sleep just cracks me up! I love that!

  • Oh God, this was so funny. I was in tears in the end.

  • This used to scare me as a kid.

  • same..

  • notice their initials are B & E!!!!!

  • 2:31 LOL

  • Bert should of suggested on counting hopping bunnies.

  • Or Bert could have suggested counting "Giraffe's" or "Mice."

  • LMFAO

  • ernie: don't worry bert i will count a ambulance!

  • What I don't get is how Bert can hear all those things if it's just Ernie's imagination.

  • This sketch kind of shows wat happens when u tell some1 to count sheep: it can really backfire

  • Vivid Imagination! ;o)#

  • lol ugh one

  • After I first watched this skit when I was boy, I would count fire engines in my head instead of sheep. Sometimes I would even pretend Ernie was sleeping over at my house, so we would not bother Bert.

  • LOL, I remember this one! This was so funny. Thanks for posting. :)

  • Fire Engines? Or what? Or Balloons? Balloons. Pop! Bert is awake!

  • I bust up when the balloon pops at the end :OD lmao
