  • Why would he make a survival show with bear grills? Dual Survival rocks!

  • could you use bank line for the bow

  • can you make a video for survival with bear grylls

  • What make is that folding saw?

  • the point is a clean painless kill....and NOT wound and make the poor animal suffer needlessly. NOT that i could kill one...or would..id kill a dog hatin muslim though!!

  • How much paracord did that assembly take? It looks like it would take quite a bit. It is reusable after the bow isn't, correct?

  • What are your thoughts on Swiss Army Vs Leatherman??

  • Wouldn't it work better if you hardened it over a fire first? And have you tried alternating and overlapping the sticks in another way? If my memory hasn't betrayed me, you were laying them "thick to thin" which would make one end of the bow thicker than the other, not allowing the bow to flex equally on both sides of the handle. The thing I like most about your videos are that they really make me want to try these things out myself, and I do.

Learning from each other =) keep up the good work!

  • pees of shit, not bow

  • waw, great job

  • harden the bundles over a fire to get a heavier pull. gets all the moisture out of the cellulose. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Recon985 After the bundle is wrapped or before ?

  • @trapperboy100 preferably after so it holds its form better and before stringing the bow. may need to use some fire resistant types of cordage. or at least follow up with some paracord after it cools.

  • deer, not a chance

  • You sir are a real live version of Arnold from the movie predator. Thank you for sharing this.

  • wear can i get paracord?

  • Thank for sharing this very nice experience! Wish you all the best!

  • DUCT TAPE FEATHERS COOLL.

  • i love the video its just wat ive been looking for

  • Great video Dave, I really enjoyed it, tyvm - Bill -

  • Now that is awesome!

  • You just made the top of my list for Fav youtube posters :D imma be looking for more from you so plz dont keep me waiting for 2 long

  • great videos. this gives my son and me new things to try out.

  • this guy rocks im sorry, if i didn't have 3 kids i would apply fora apprenticeship, I wish i could meet him one day and just have a conversation about the wilderness and survival

  • Would Tree of Heaven work?

  • Classic. Dave Canterbury: no BS. You're the best.

  • I like the bundle bow it was a a great project for me and my son.

  • hey dave this is gabriel and i like to say your doing a very good job and i hope you and code do will in the moves and it works out for you and him your bud gabriel valdez jr

  • haha well if i can kill a deer idk about a rabbit duh

haha just messing dave love the vids

  • best dude ever.

  • oh, and great videos Dave. Been enjoying duel survival too. keep up the good work.

  • planes crash, ships sink, boats get swamped etc etc etc. not sure what all the ranting is about, but obviously this is meant to be something easily made and used to hunt small game in case you have nothing better. To think that there is no chance that you will ever end up in a tough situation without your usual gear is naive. Even if you have all your gear, sh!t happens. Most pieces of gear can break, or be lost. better to sacrifice your pride and be prepared -just in case-

  • @wildernessoutfitters You should buy a windcutter. They are cheap and they work great!

  • I like this guy.

  • It's a good type of bow.

i used a bow just like that and killed a rabbit.

  • Dave, you are a left-hander, am I right?

  • wow you inspire me

  • I would think that would be a waste of rope in a survival situation... would be more efficient and effective to make a bow out of a solid shaft of wood. And less of a pain in the ass. I like watching all the other videos you have tho, thanks for all the great uploads.

  • Excellent video. Very instructive.

  • Why not just use the duck tape to secure the bundle of sticks rather than the paracord? Am I missing something here?

  • @stvsanders duct tape has too much give remember the paracord is reusable and has many more uses the strands on the inside can be used for alot of things and the outside case can still be used as cordage

    its all about conserving resources

  • i seen some hot pink duck tape good for arrows and marking trails

  • I want to go into the woods and make a bow like this right now!

  • What I don't really understand is you keep referring to a 'survival type situation', then you start talking about carrying duct tape around in your backpack.

When I visualize a survival type situation, there is no backpack.

I'd like to see how to put feathers on a bow using just leaves and sapling bark.

If I have access to duct tape, I'm probably not really in that much danger...

I'd like to see what kind of weapons work against bears...

  • @eschelar just listen to the master :)

  • @eschelar You're right about the duckt tape and the back pack. But since cordage made out of any plant fiber, woods and sharp stone flakes are available, you can do pretty much anything. Here in Brasil we use tree sap as a glue in the woods...

And of course, there's always the possibility of a natural disaster or even a war turn a urban enviroment in a WROL survival situation

  • @eschelar Pine resin comes to mind. As far as a no-backpack-survival-situation Why would you go into a possible situation where that would be required without extensive training? Survival begins with preparation. Sadly our society considers groups which still teach these skills as a lifestyle to be uncivilized and backward. (Yeah right! Ever walked the streets of a big city?) I always have a buttpack with what I consider to be a few essentials. I wasn't taught the old ways.

  • @10yearvet - if there is no "no backpack survival situation" then there is no need for these skills. True, it's pretty rare, but it can happen. What if you were on a mountain and a bear came along and stole your backpack?

I come from Canada. We still have wilderness. And cougars and bears. And bush planes.

Plenty of survival situations can come up.

  • @eschelar Like I said I ALWAYS have my buttpack on me as well as a canteen of water. It is not integrated with my rucksack. I am well familiar with cougars and bears among others. I can think of only two situations that one could get your ruck. You have either left your ruck in camp unsecured or you've met one face to face and dropped it to run. Then he isn't going to go for the ruck and it isn't going to matter what your skills are. If you are with a buddy you only need to run faster than him.

  • @eschelar Seriously brother.. tryin' to help you here. Don't try to reach for a skill level above what you haven't already learned. I am Cherokee indian but, sadly, I wasn't taught the old ways. My ancestors were taught from childhood and was second nature. I find it admirable that you want to learn how to survive with nature but I also think it wise to go into situations prepared. 550 cord as far as I am concerned is an absolute must in my pack and it rolls up small and lightweight.

  • @eschelar are you ten years old or retarded?

  • @maddipper12 You must be psychic - I'm both 10 years old AND retarded.

Clearly you have never been in any real wilderness, never seen a cougar jump onto a 20 foot roof, never been charged by a grizzly bear...

Obviously this bow is not a weapon, but rather a tool. Yes indeed, the bunch bow, your best bet for digging furrows for your new hedge garden, set up some nice mood lighting and even play a little music on the saw you keep in your backpack at all times, even on airplanes.

  • @eschelar ive been within spitting distance of bears and there is no need to be afraid your not on the menu just back away end of story. as for cougars stay the fuck away from them because even with a fucking semi auto shotgun it will prolly be all on your shit before you can pull the trigger. so quit itching about videos and make a fire if you want protection from animals that arnt a threat to anyone

  • Respond to this video... you dont need a weapon to defend yourself in the wild. you need a tool to provide for yourself

  • This is just like what Arnold makes near the end of Predator. I always wondered how its done. Thanks

  • @articfox2276 lmao!! was thinkin the exact same thing threw out the whole vid

  • i am curious how bank line would work?

  • how long does this take to make?

  • dude i'm totally going to do this someday. i'm fascinated by bows.

  • @equallyeasilyfuqyou bows are cool indeed, if you want to make some bows I can give you some tip's, message me.

  • how long can you use this bow?

    ATB Gabriel

  • @SurvivalOberschwaben In the first video he mentioned this bow will last a few days to a week.

  • @XxServalcat24xX Oh, really?- I´m sorry :)

  • @SurvivalOberschwaben dont mention it, brother.

  • @XxServalcat24xX Have you already built the bow?

  • @SurvivalOberschwaben I wish, I don't have the right kind of wood, or any paracord:( what about you?

  • @XxServalcat24xX I will do it :)

  • @SurvivalOberschwaben good luck! Hey if you want can you make a video of you shooting it at something and pm me the link to the video?

  • @XxServalcat24xX yes Follow me ;)

  • @SurvivalOberschwaben follow? do you mean subscribe?

  • @XxServalcat24xX yes :)

  • i've found that if you make the bow string maybe about 3/4ths the length of the bow it works pretty good and you dont have to tie the other end while trying to tension the string

  • Not trying to be rude or negative. But when is it worth the time and effort to construct something like this? I doubt one could repeatedly get within 10 yards of a deer, I could be wrong though. For fishing, why not use that cordage for trot lines instead? I know full well that Dave is the master, and there is an obvious reason, I'm sure. Just wondering. Thanks for sharing!

  • @schniderlog you could catch rabbits, squirrels, other small mammals, you could catch geese and other easy target birds.

a bow can also be used for making traps and making fire.

  • This bow is easy to make. It is cord intensive tho.

  • Nice. Thanks. I really liked this and am so anxious to make one that I'm pissed off that it's night time right now and i can't start now lol.

  • Comment removed

  • He means 40lbs of draw weight to be legal

  • Just one thing. When you say 40lbs, do you mean the bow has to have 40lbs draw to be legal or do you mean that the arrow has to leave the bow at 40 ft/lbs as the two are completely different?

  • If you take the bark off you can fit more sticks in your hand to make the bow stronger. Stripping the bark also increases the limb speed of the bow, bark really slows this down, As long as your arrow is not too heavy, then the velocity of the arrow depends more on the speed of the bow than the draw weight. One last thing you might find useful is to use wet twine binding instead of para cord. When the twine drys it will shrink to hold much more tightly and it only costs about £1 for 200 yards.

  • you are a legend sir.. if the zombie apocalypse comes these bows will come in handy

  • Nice...very good bushcraft skills. Thank You for sharing it.

  • This may seem like a very silly question, but could you "fire harden" the wood to increase the draw weight?

  • lol yah but you gotta be ontop of the animal to kill it- and thats where the skill comes in in stalking

  • loved your traps. didnt like the bow.

  • Hey! Wildernessoutfitters!

I have a question!, This bow, can kill a rabbit?, i listened you in 11:00

and you said, yes, can... but from what distance , and, can kill the rabbit in one shot? , i guess in the head, its hard to aim i guess, need a little practice, but, this its my question, This bow, can kill a rabbit? from what distance ? can kill the rabbit in one shot? its neccesary hit him in the head?

    See Ya !

    I love your program !

  • @jaime7890 sorry my bad english, i do best i can :P hehe

  • he should have tied on that glass arrowhead he made and continued this vid to part 3: Killing a deer with it. THAT would be an outstanding show. Demo how to actually use it.

  • great vid i go make 1 me self thx dave

  • guesstimating what would you say the draw weight is?

  • cool video

  • if that one end didnt have as much flex at the grip it prolly have a tad more punch,,, made a bow the other day by splitin a single small tree in half strung with the flat side out, lost 3 arrows in the woods from across the yard yesterday,,, my next project is like this one but with bamboo slats duct taped together

  • heres a tip that you might find useful since i see you film most(or all) of your videos out side take a piece of panty hose that your wife has ripped or something and put it over the mic on your camera for a wind screen its a little trick us audio guys use in the studio :)

  • @swallowthedark for his wind he might need something thicker or call one of us audio guys for the use of an iso booth for a voice over narration...lol

  • YOUR VIDEO IS AWSOME AND I WAN'T TO NOW IF YOU CAN USE FISHING LINE IF YOU RAP IT IF IT WILL WORK THANK YOU

  • where is your favourite place on a nigger to shoot?

  • Love your bowmaking videos Dave.

  • absolutely wonderful.. thanks for putting it up. I hope to see you on the discovery channel in the near future.. thanks again

  • absolutely wonderful.. thanks for putting it up

  • That is sick man. With my homemade crossbow, I use the same sort of duct tape method, except I use piece of plastic cunt in the shape of a fletching, and I use three of them, and they work brilliantly. And they're nail tipped as well :D

  • @iKiwiMetalHead a piece of plastic cunt?

  • what other types of wood are well suited for making a bow or does it not matter?

  • Your show is great! My dad and I watch it all the time. I don't fully comprehend or agree with all of Cody's tactics, but he seems like a helpful companion to have especially for fire and shelter making. You guys do a great job, and I hope you have many more seasons to come.

  • could i use bamboo i ahve a whole bunch basically a whole forest in columbus ohio haha who woulda thought man that stuff bends

  • @kruppcody1 you sure can! ive got loads of it at my house aswell. search bamboo bundle bow or bamboo bow on here and there are some vids on how to make them, kaus i think you need ta split them but its real easy

  • @yopoza thanks man ima try it but i think ima stick with my slingbow!

  • your a badass motherfucker watched some of your videos for entertainment and its pretty cool how you make shit and whatnot. just wanted to say that. keep doin what ya do.

  • could i make one one wooden dowels

  • yea but at 12:06 you said were the arrow hits at how close you are it dont matter how close it matters were the arrow hits and if you got deep enough pinatration.

  • @WeaponsEnthusiast i am also 14 and I'm working with a 45 pound recurve, I'm try to get to where i can pull a 50 pound longbow

  • did you rip a fart at 9:47?

  • I would have made my bow with alot of sticks, to less the chance of it breaking and make it out of really taugh wood.....

    great Vid:)

  • amazing video thx

  • you are one BAD dude!!! I always wanted to know how to make a Bow ...thanks ..

  • how can u add a 3th Piece of Duct-tape?

  • how much dose pairaccord normal cost ?

  • I freaking loved this video. This would be extremely helpful in a survival situation! Thanks for the info.

  • Outstanding!!

  • Thank You for making these kind of videos they very very helpful I love the bundle bow

  • Another great how video. Good stuff that could help keep you alive.

    Thanks

  • lol you can kill a rabbit with like a 10 pound bow somebody told me that a 25 pound bow will kill a deer with the right broad head and if you place the arrow at the right spot

  • I like the bow and it seems easy to make.

I was thinking you could mix woods and maybe use what long stiffer sticks(possibly 1 piece good ones you find) and mix with the piece to get the best quick results with less searching. I Imagine that mixing what you can find mighty be as usefull? just a thought

    gets a guy thinkun. thanks

  • you can use your hands its just harder than with a jig.

  • as always, Great. I like the Swiss Dart better, than the bundle bow. The bundle bow would be better for hunting.

  • you can heat up the wood to make it straighter for the arrow

  • wow, thank you for this series, i got my son(10) to watch with me and the next time we go hiking he wants to make one, i told him if he can pull 45 lbs he can go rabbit hunting with it. thanks again...

  • I had an idea for a quick quiver if the points of your arrows arn't that sharp you could put the ends in your haversack and use a zip tie taped to the strap and that would help support them

  • would ductape work two it would probably quicker and you wouldnt need to use your paracord

  • probably but tape can luse its value when things start moving and when dirt gets in there. cord, if tied right, will keep its load.

  • woot great video!so did u actually start the pathfinders school?

  • *****

    Thanks for this series, Dave!

    Color me impressed!

  • Dave...great stuff as usual,keep keeping on

  • 79outlaw

you should see his one in the trapping series if you haven't its really nice and clean and shoots very well.

although, this one is really decent too.

  • Would bamboo work for making this bow if you did not have the right wood?

  • Yes if you split is right and remove the excess wood around the nodes.

  • ok thank you!

  • unreal. Can't wait to see if you actually bring down a deer. Im not doubting you, just want to see it.

  • dave great bow. I have heard of bows like this but never found good enough materials for it. Any suggestions for someone from the southeastern states? I dont think I've seen any japanese honeysuckle around my parts. I got tons of pine, some birch, silver maple, and a few ash trees. I hope you get the discovery deal. Good luck.

  • ash pure wood bows are great but hard work to make

  • I'm no expert like Dave, but I would say go with ash. English longbowmen were said to prefer ash bows, and they were considered the best archers in the world at the time.

  • The English longbowmen were only so powerful because of their enemies - peasents and un-armed natives.

If you ask me, Mongolians are much better archers.

  • korea won Archery in the Olympics for 24 years straight. but they were beaten in the 2008 one.

  • Who defeated them?

  • China

  • Awesome video Dave. Can't wait for your next one.

  • if you don't have ductape or feathers then use leaves

  • awesome videos dave!! i cant wait to go out in the woods and try that! hope all goes well with discovery!! oh and can you do a video showing good bow woods? thanks!

  • little windy

but when i saw the duct tape fethers i thought you smart son of a gun hahah i never would have thought of that

  • nice, can't wait for the hunting video.

  • dave you are very acurate with a bow arent you? good job man. wish i could shoot like you. hadnt shot a bow since i was a kid but i think i'd like to do it again maybe even with a white oak bow i build myself. thanks dave.

  • great vid Dave

can not wait to try the tape for feathers next time out

  • Excellent video as usual. Thanks! Can't wait to get to the woods and try this one out! Thanks as always for the very well made and very informative video...

  • Dave, another great video. The rock bass already fear my pathfinder fishing kit, now the carp will have to watch out for my bundle bow! Can't wait to see you on Discovery. You always say "thanks for your support" at the end of your videos, well I say thank you for your support.

  • Dave, Great Video bud. I know you know this as a trad archer, but if you added point weight your arrow shaft would fly alittle less stiff. I.E right handed shooter, shaft kicking out left. It may be alittle too complicated in the woods, Never tried it, but you know. Also Great idea on the fletching...Awesome man!!

    P.

  • Dave,

Great videos, 5 stars. Have you ever tried making your oun fuel? FYI only of course. How would go about it in the wild?

  • 5/5m8

  • Another great video! Love the duct tape fletching - unlike some of your other viewers I've never seen that before...

  • yay part 2 and great vid 5*

  • Thanks for the video. It reminded me of how I use to make single piece of wood bows when I was a kid and use bullrushes tomake the arrows. They were not vey powerful as we used to shoot each other my buddies and I, but we used bail twine and a good piece of hard wood for good afternoon fun. I will will get myself some para-cord and attempt one from the shoots near the river behind my house for practice. Thanks again, brought some memories. Mike, London, On.

  • Dave, can you use 100 mile tape or duct-tape if you don't have cordage?

  • Absolutley this was covered last week in Primitive Traps Part 3 when we made the Bow trap for Large Game. Thanks man.

  • dude you are awsome i love your tips and on discovery you are much bather then a hipi guy love your videos

  • Great video, as all of them.

  • Would've been stronger had you backed it with some strands of hemp ;) awesome vid!

  • Great video! Good luck with Discovery, Dave!

  • Please don't kill a deer just to prove that the bow can do it! We belive you!

I hope Discovery will make a good choice and pick you!

  • Buddy I kill at leaqst one deer every season for feeding my family!

  • In that case absolutely nothing wrong with that! Thanks for the answer Dave, keep up the good work!

  • @wildernessoutfitters i think he meant don't video tape it... i personally would love to see this and the slingbow take some game just to prove it's effectiveness

  • @wildernessoutfitters Could You Kill A Deer With That?
