i saw tommy play ace in a tribute band in 92 called " cold gin " . i just figured it out that was him !!! i remember it like yesterday!! thats funny!!! his hair was curly. i thought he should have worn a wig. i was looking through the book kisstory and they have pictures of kiss cover bands and there he was!! crazy!!
I finally caught KISS last July and while Tommy Thayer is a good guitarist and mimicked Ace well, he is not Ace Frehely. Man, the dude had no stage presence he just stood there, like a potted plant. Of course, knowing Gene that's what he told him to do. ("Look Tommy you are a contract player, not a member, you stand here, like a potted plant.") A-hole
@592220 With Tommy Thayer it sounded fine but you can tell just by listening that it was a learned thing rather than something that comes natural with feeling and groove. In my opinion KISS should rename themselves "The Gene and Paul quartet" because that's just not KISS anymore. Not without Ace and Peter. They should have given Tommy and Eric thier own makeup just like the did Vinny Vincent and Eric Carr.... It would have been the respectful thing to do.....

I am so sick of Led Zep on CD, you can only hear those songs a couple million times before you get sick of them. Yet I would love to see them live. you are kidding..Ace has amazing songs with Frehley's Comet:Insane,Breakout,ROCK SOLDIERS...if you don't like those songs then you don't like classic Kiss,Anomaly is as good as Sonic Boom,but man,his 1978 solo record is from outer space,every song out of there is awesome and I dare say Ace Frehley is one of the best Kiss album that you can find,Fractured Mirror shows that Ace has for sure

Very well said. Wine and Ace , both better with age. Saw him live in Cleveland last Nov. What a show! He Rocks harder than ever. Dont care how old he gets or what people say about his looks, he is still the greatest and always will be. I've been a kiss fan, more specifically, an ACE fan for 34 years. Seen KISS 4 times, it's just not the same without Ace & Peter.
Ace..........you rocked hard and pleased your fans. Its hard to believe he is 58 years old!!! I know his b-day will be coming next month. Its hard to see Ace looking like an older man, which he is.... at least he is growing old gracefully than what Gene Simmons did on his show, and had surgery. I do a lot. LOL The reason they made that one was to make people forget about the Elder, and I think it's good. Paul's singing throughout the album has got to be some of the strongest he's done.
I'm happy for Ace that his new album is doing well, he's got a lot of fans that love him and he doesn't need to be with those sell outs Gene and Paul to make a mark in rock n roll still. Love KISS to death, but after Destroyer, the money talked too much. I get that Peter and Ace were into substance abuse, but they were the ones who insisted on doing rock n roll albums while the other two just sold the hell out. If they were still in KISS, it would mean they loved the money more than the music.
@badasschill you're right, Kiss signed a multi-million dollar deal with PolyGram Records in 1980 that stipulated that if Paul , Gene, or, Ace left, they would be in breach of contract. When Creatures came out, thats why they put his face on that album and took him out on a promo tour that year so they wouldn't rock the boat with the label. Well the label found out and demanded G&P re-negotiate the contract fo. I think Gene holds a grudge with Ace to this day because of that.
The 1978 KISS Ace Frehley solo album is much better than his Frehley's Comet debut because the songs are better. The Comet debut is good, but by comparison a little weaker because of Howarth's songs. That album would have been better if it was all Ace material.
He wasn't as important as the name brand, Ace Frehley. Trouble Walkin' is regarded by fans as a much better album because it's more Ace, and no Todd. The debut album was good, but Second Sighting definitely suffered from too much Todd, and not enough Ace.
We'll have to agree to disagree. I thought Todd was an integral part of the Comet and I liked the albums he played on. I do agree on Trouble Walkin' brilliant album and have it on re-order can't find my original.

Kiss didn't didn't play Shock Me at MSG until the ALIVE II tour, where alive recording of Shock Me was already on the album and in the stores and on the charts by the time the ALIVE II tour rolled into MSG. So, there is no way Ace debuted Shock Me at MSG AFTER it was already on ALIVE II reportedly from a show in LA.

New York Groove bigger than ever? Did it get back on the charts or something? Why would he ask him about a song ACE didn't even write? Sure they play it at football games, but I don't think that means it's hugely popular.

Mr. Frehley didn't get fired or kicked out of Kiss back in '82, he left because he didn't want to be in the band no more, Gene and Paul said to him, do whatever you want but don't leave us. Peter was the one that got fired.

Ace is incorrect about Shock Me, the first time he sang it was in the summer of 77 on the Love Gun Tour. They didn't hit MSG until later that year in December.
Ace would sing lead for Parasite a lot on tour prior to recording Shock Me though. (Just not on official taped performances like the Alive show and the album.)
It's funny how Ace laughs when Trunk says "when you were still a member of KISS"...Ace is a founder of KISS, he's always going to be a member of KISS, real KISS, not that shit they slapped a KISS logo on without Ace and Peter.

Yeah good point, creatures of the night peaked at number 47 in America when it was released, and Ace's new album "Anomaly" debuted at number 27 on the same chart this year. And that's solo, with him producing, and playing most of the album and releasing it on his own label without hardly any promoting.

Creatures didn't reach Gold in Carr's lifetime, neither did the Elder. Thats two off the top of my head that were failures. Smashes was a best of, no shit it went platinum!
To me Gene & Paul are the guys who asked Ace & Peter to join their dream band after Wicked Lester. Ace & Peter wanted out towards the end of the 70's and eventually they both got it. Why people chastise Gene & Paul for keeping it going successfully (sometimes) , is beyond me. Good luck with putting KISS down, though. You are really giving it to them good.

Paul said that Peter and Ace's issues were always there in the back, but eventually those issues would always rear their ugly heads, and it would effect the whole band. Drunks and junkies always effect the music and bring everyone down. It destroys lives and careers, and Paul and Gene are done with that, they put up with long enough and gave them so many chances and they blew it. Doesn't mean they aren't talented.

@Desolation66 I know. I was about 6 when I found out Eric Carr was dead (I'm 16 now so I was a little behind, haha.) Eric Carr is still my favorite Kiss drummer. This band will always have a place in my heart, but now i'm more into metal and German metal. Megadeth placing number 1, Iron Maiden number 2, Helloween number 3, Kiss number 4, and System of a Down number 5.
In 1980 at the Sydney Cricket ground (November 21) i was front row at their Australian concert, when Paul destroyed his guitar and threw it to the crowd...i got it, i still have the body of the guitar to this day...then neck was stolen off me as i left the concert.

I know it's a day late, but Happy Birthday, Ace. I have seen you 3 times. June 1979 & Sept. 1996 with KISS at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC and your solo tour in July 1987 at The Boathouse in Norfolk, VA. You were incredible and still are, IMO. Keep on rockin'.
I would be nice to see the original Kiss do a tour without the make up and with a new album. That would compete with the up coming supposed Van Halen tour and the Chickenfoot tour.

It's not that Ace "missed" Peter, he lost part of his control and influence without Peter. Ace wasn't enough to tell Paul and Gene they weren't using Ezrin or doing a concept album in 1981. If Peter had of been there, perhaps it could have been different and the band would have done a classic Kiss rock album.
Ace's last US tour with Kiss was with Peter in 1979. After the Aussie 80 shows, Ace split the band, Kiss performed as a trio on a tv show in 1982.

Ace split the band by early 1982 when Kiss performed as a trio on a live broadcast without him. Ace later agreed to do the European promo tour only because Kiss didn't want to lose their record contract and had to play along with an illusion that Ace was on the able and in the band, but Ace wasn't in the band and had nothing to do with the recording of the album or going on tour. It was a facade Paul and Gene relied on to prevent losing their record deal if Ace quit.

Ace didn't HAVE to play along. Who cares if they were lip-synching? The point remains that Ace had left the band as early as January of 1982 when Kiss appeared as a trio on Satellite tv around the world, a live broadcast from Studio 54. No Ace. The ONLY reason Ace played along with the charade during Creatures is because Kiss's contract depended upon him being in the group, so leaving would have jeopardized Paul and Gene's income flow.
Peter, Paul and Gene hired Ace, after spending months as a trio practicing in a loft. And by 1978, Ace wanted out of the band because he felt his solo album did well enough to launch a solo career.
Paul's solo album was the most like KISS, but Ace's was by far the best. There's some AWESOME shit on that record! If you're into Ace and never heard his solo album, you MUST go out and find it and listen to it a lot.
This is awesome!! Ace is the man! I met him & his girlfriend after the show in Chicago last year and it was the coolest thing I've ever experienced! Can't wait to see him on tour again!
Although Ace's album sold better than the other 3, the sales order was 1. Ace , 2. Gene, 3. Paul and 4th Peter. But in NO WAY did it outsell them all together.
Hard Times was on Dynasty. It was not released as a single. The only singles from Dynasty (in America) were "I Was Made For Loving You" and Sure Know Something", the former went gold, while the later barely charted.

hes the only member to quit Kiss i think ? man he was the rock n roll in kiss , his songs have always been rocking , hes a great guitarist , got a great voice , maybe not a brilliant singer but gees , hes always entertaining and honest , u cant say that about the rest of kiss

Yes, that is correct. Kiss didn't didn't play Shock Me at MSG until the ALIVE II tour, where alive recording of Shock Me was already on the album and in the stores and on the charts by the time the ALIVE II tour rolled into MSG. So, there is no way Ace debuted Shock Me at MSG AFTER it was already on ALIVE II reportedly from a show in LA.

Mr. Frehley didn't get fired or kicked out of Kiss back in '82, he left because he didn't want to be in the band no more, Gene and Paul said to him, do whatever you want but don't leave us. Peter was the one that got fired.

I disagree. Any die hard KISS fan going back to the 70's would tell you that KISS is just not the same without Peter, and especially Ace. KISS is a lot more than just the 2 jewish guys (I love them both)!

@sophiegromit yes because Ace was the major singer/songwriter, Ace was around in KISS during the makeup free years, Ace didn't drop out of KISS cuz Peter was kicked out and The Elder flopped and 2nd time he didn't leave cuz he realized the band wasn't gonna retire. CMON, who are u kidding?!?!?! i love Ace, but Paul and Gene are and have always been the main driving forces of KISS and the constant members. Ace left on his own accord, and it didn't make that much difference to the band.

Ace is incorrect about Shock Me, the first time he sang it was in the summer of 77 on the Love Gun Tour. They didn't hit MSG until later that year in December.

No need for sarcasm. It's hard for some (original only ) KISS fans to except but "Lick it Up" did better than "KISS", "Hotter Than Hell" & "Dressed To Kill" . Doesn't matter to me. I haven't heard a KISS album yet that I didn't like. I love all versions of KISS. I bought "Anomaly" because I love KISS. I think it's a great album. I don't feel the need to duke it out.

Yeah good point, creatures of the night peaked at number 47 in America when it was released, and Ace's new album "Anomaly" debuted at number 27 on the same chart this year. And that's solo, with him producing, and playing most of the album and releasing it on his own label without hardly any promoting.

Creatures didn't reach Gold in Carr's lifetime, neither did the Elder. Thats two off the top of my head that were failures. Smashes was a best of, no shit it went platinum!
The rest had Mtv helping them sell.

To me Gene & Paul are the guys who asked Ace & Peter to join their dream band after Wicked Lester. Ace & Peter wanted out towards the end of the 70's and eventually they both got it. Why people chastise Gene & Paul for keeping it going successfully (sometimes) , is beyond me. Good luck with putting KISS down, though. You are really giving it to them good.

Jokerwithnoise666 Kiss has a full album coming out in October. Paul said that Peter and Ace's issues were always there in the back, but eventually those issues would always rear their ugly heads, and it would effect the whole band. Drunks and junkies always effect the music and bring everyone down. It destroys lives and careers, and Paul and Gene are done with that, they put up with long enough and gave them so many chances and they blew it. Doesn't mean they aren't talented.

@Desolation66 I know. I was about 6 when I found out Eric Carr was dead (I'm 16 now so I was a little behind, haha.) Eric Carr is still my favorite Kiss drummer. This band will always have a place in my heart, but now i'm more into metal and German metal. Megadeth placing number 1, Iron Maiden number 2, Helloween number 3, Kiss number 4, and System of a Down number 5.

In 1980 at the Sydney Cricket ground (November 21) i was front row at their Australian concert, when Paul destroyed his guitar and threw it to the crowd...i got it, i still have the body of the guitar to this day...then neck was stolen off me as i left the concert.

I know it's a day late, but Happy Birthday, Ace. I have seen you 3 times. June 1979 & Sept. 1996 with KISS at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC and your solo tour in July 1987 at The Boathouse in Norfolk, VA. You were incredible and still are, IMO. Keep on rockin'.

It's not that Ace "missed" Peter, he lost part of his control and influence without Peter. Ace wasn't enough to tell Paul and Gene they weren't using Ezrin or doing a concept album in 1981. If Peter had of been there, perhaps it could have been different and the band would have done a classic Kiss rock album.
Ace's last US tour with Kiss was with Peter in 1979. After the Aussie 80 shows, Ace split the band, Kiss performed as a trio on a tv show in 1982.

Ace split the band by early 1982 when Kiss performed as a trio on a live broadcast without him. Ace later agreed to do the European promo tour only because Kiss didn't want to lose their record contract and had to play along with an illusion that Ace was on the able and in the band, but Ace wasn't in the band and had nothing to do with the recording of the album or going on tour. It was a facade Paul and Gene relied on to prevent losing their record deal if Ace quit.

Ace didn't HAVE to play along. Who cares if they were lip-synching? The point remains that Ace had left the band as early as January of 1982 when Kiss appeared as a trio on Satellite tv around the world, a live broadcast from Studio 54. No Ace. The ONLY reason Ace played along with the charade during Creatures is because Kiss's contract depended upon him being in the group, so leaving would have jeopardized Paul and Gene's income flow.

Paul's solo album was the most like KISS, but Ace's was by far the best. There's some AWESOME shit on that record! If you're into Ace and never heard his solo album, you MUST go out and find it and listen to it a lot.

Hard Times was on Dynasty. It was not released as a single. The only singles from Dynasty (in America) were "I Was Made For Loving You" and Sure Know Something", the former went gold, while the later barely charted.
