But, to call the man a "hero", for simply having survived, when his "bunk mates" did not, seems a poor reason for elevating the man to that lofty status.

One of the famous battles of WW2 was called the Battle of the Bulge. I think I know about 50 living WW2 vets, but none fought in that famous battle. Now in the past 3 yrs I have read and seen on TV at least 40 holocaust surviving Jews tell of their hellish ordeal in the concentration camps and each one was in Auschwitz.
