My bad. I was reading the description and all the comments saying that the sync is off, I look at the video and he's moving and theres no noise so i was like; "it must be the encoding thing as they said", then after about 20 seconds I realised that someone turned the computer sound right down.
How come no one has heard of this instrument? It's probably because it sounds like a washboard unless played by this dude.
I LOVE IT! it's like a bass & guitar fushioned!!!& with delay sounds like harp some times!!! sounds lovely, how is it the instrument called? I would call it tap vertical bassguitar, does it haves a name? i'm really amazed about the versatile that itloooks to play, & sounds real sweet! i like to hear some more of that instrument is it just greg who play's it, does he maid it?
I just learned about this Chapman Stick thing last night, but after watching a bunch of videos and checking out a bunch of websites, I can tell you Greg Howard is a master of the art, and this video is a testament to that mastery.
i must admit what he does requires immense coordination and skill but doesnt it sound slightly robotic? like something out of a videogame, i feel having to span attention for 2 melodies leaves little room for emotion..?
I've heard incredibly emotional Video game music thanks to the sega Master system!!! IMO Mr. Howard is easily a master improvisor and a very emotional player ..what do you feel is missing ??
I don't understand. Is a Beethoven sonata "robotic"? How about a Bill Evans improvisation? Pianists routinely play two or more melodies at the same time. The Stick is similar. I think your perception is based on (1) the tune, which has a frantic feeling, and (2) the tone of the instrument, which is bright and precise, like a Clavinet. There's actually another video from this series with with Greg covering Miles Davis's "All Blues" that is simply AMAZING. I wish someone would post it.
