Sonic Adventure 2 was proof that Sonic works in 3D. Too bad they never went back to that control scheme again, cuz that was by far the best 3D they'd ever done for quite some time. Also not here because of generations. I'm here because this and Tropical Resort were the two songs I appreciated most from Colors (or Colours for you Euros out there).

Sonic Generation surpasses it because the modern sonic is fun, and it works. There is no freedom like in the Sonic Adventure series, but that's okay, because it's FAST. Wow is it fast, and that was the main goal, and that (for me) is why it's so fun. Tight controls, fast, energetic. Everything I love in a Sonic game!

Generation wasn't based on colors however, saying as Unleashed came before Colors, and Unleashed is what started the new modern sonic phase. As someone once put it. Sonic Unleashed was the blue-print, Colors was the prototype and Generation was the finished result. A master piece in my opinion.

I didn't take this game as another over the top Sonic game. Instead I looked at it for a regular Sonic game. Just a fun filled platforming game. The music is amazing. The story, while it may be childish, is still very close to the original story of the Genesis era. I'm not retro Sonic fanboy, but this game is absolutely amazing. Bring on Generations. I'm there.

I actually disliked this game. The story was so dry and full of lame puns that shouldn't have been explained, it seems like it was intended for little kids. I still think there needs to be another sonic adventure, those games had great stories and you got to play as a variety of characters in different types of fun levels (except for the fishing shit) Plus I was able to beat the game in only 3 hours. This was still a fun game either way and I Ioved this song from the moment I started act 1.

Even though Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite Sonic, controls are SOOOO awkward compared to this. I popped it back into my Wii after a year or so without playing it and the controls were awkward, I was running into walls all the time, and the homing attack was strange. >_< I still consider Sonic Adventure 2 my favorite 3D game, but Colors is just slightly behind it.

@solar464 Haha, I went back to it a second time about two weeks later and was getting A's on basically every mission I did. I used to have a chao that was like level 83 or something, but my memory card battery is dead so I have to use a different one and I lost the chao. But yeah, it's a great game.
And Biolizard was never that hard of a boss for me. I mean I could beat both sections without getting hit often, and I was only like 6-9 years old, so I mean yea.

@TheR9RO That's all fair, but it's kind of a "flip side" thing too. I mean, I too critique many Sonic games (did you know that I actually HATE the game Super Smash bros Brawl, and Mario kart Wii. You're going in the exact opposite direction. You are discussing what Sonic USED to be. Sonic is fast, everyone knows that, and the fact that he's fast requires upbeat music. Rock suits it even better, since it pumps you up. I have nothing against clean music, in fact, I like it, but when I think of Sonic, I think of action, and rock is pure action.

By the way, the instrumental remixes I showed were all composed MIDI, just goes to show you how far compositional skills can take you, instead of what you use to compose.

@RaioneruSol Beat merely symbolizes the tempo and rhythm in time. Also, these ARE remixes of songs that were composed on cartridges that could only hold 256kb of memory (Not much time/space for songs.) Much less than the usual GB sized memory files of today's games. Even then, I wouldn't classify the remixes as having a "simple change" in music or tone. There's a wealth of creativity lying behind the improvisational portions of the pieces.
Sonic Colors succeeds where the so, so many other Sonic games have failed. Sega has put hard work into this game and this is the result. While some of the stages are annoying, it is overshadowed by nice music and excellent gameplay. Thank you Sega for finally and hopefully, learning for your mistakes.
@kuki217 Though, the songs are good, the music could have a lot more potential if they tried harder with the music. It's too repetative with the same beats. I prefer the Unleashed Music, mainly because of the fast beat and tempo that catches Sonic's image perfectly when running. Especially the jazzy solo the put into it.

@kololoilo While the older games didn't exactly have the best instrumental sounds for music (Genesis MIDI), there was alot more potential in the pieces. Here's an example of what new Sonic games could hold that pretty much just blow away most of the pieces here, at least in my opinion.
i LOVE sega, they are one of my favorite gaming corps, because they are like nintendo and bungie combined. they make AMAZING games with amazing music and they just make you feel so damn alive!! oh and they listen to their fans :P.

@Kirbyluver2 The DS version was more straightforward and removed all the Puns. Overall the DS version had a better story While the Wii version had better gameplay.

Even though Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite Sonic, controls are SOOOO awkward compared to this. I popped it back into my Wii after a year or so without playing it and the controls were awkward, I was running into walls all the time, and the homing attack was strange. >_< I still consider Sonic Adventure 2 my favorite 3D game, but Colors is just slightly behind it.

i was right. i proceeded to A rank city escape and wup the biolizard without getting hit ONCE. "hard boss" my ass....

@solar464 Haha, I went back to it a second time about two weeks later and was getting A's on basically every mission I did. I used to have a chao that was like level 83 or something, but my memory card battery is dead so I have to use a different one and I lost the chao. But yeah, it's a great game.
And Biolizard was never that hard of a boss for me. I mean I could beat both sections without getting hit often, and I was only like 6-9 years old, so I mean yea.

@TheR9RO Well, it's fine that you don't like Sonic Colors, but the point is, there are so many people on the internet who tend to "hate" a Sonic game just because it's a new Sonic game. You're reasons for hating it make it seem like you're very picky about what makes a good Sonic game, rather than just enjoying the experience of playing as a speedy blue hedgehog. It's really just a matter of enjoying the game for what it is, and not complaining just becasue it's not 100% perfect.

@MarioMastar I think its good to be critic and care about what you're playing. I used to like Sonic Rush, the songs and Sonic running and grinding and punching the air felt cool.
Someday i replayed it and started seeing it with other eyes, i could be playing better games or else instead of wasting time with something thats actually not good, just shallow.

@TheR9RO That's all fair, but it's kind of a "flip side" thing too. I mean, I too critique many Sonic games (did you know that I actually HATE the game Super Smash bros Brawl, and Mario kart Wii. I have paragraphs of reasons too). It's just unfair when people hate a game because there are "better games out there", I mean, Sonic Rush isn't perfect by far, but it's not mediocre at all. People just tend to either love a Sonic game, or hate it entirely, and that's just not fair when it's neutral.

You're going in the exact opposite direction. You are discussing what Sonic USED to be. Sonic is fast, everyone knows that, and the fact that he's fast requires upbeat music. Rock suits it even better, since it pumps you up. I have nothing against clean music, in fact, I like it, but when I think of Sonic, I think of action, and rock is pure action.

Jeez, the people at Sonic Team really know who to hire when making music for their games. Almost every soundtrack is A material (even, that abomination Sonic the Hedgehog 06.) Glad to see Sonic Colors keeps the musical quality Sonic fans are use to.

@RaioneruSol MIDI or not, what truly dictates repetitiveness lies within the actual composition in itself, not whether or not it was performed by an orchestra, a live band, or digital input notes.
Also, please prove that Sonic Colors utilizes exclusively digital sounds, rather than using actual piano, guitar, etc instruments.
By the way, the instrumental remixes I showed were all composed MIDI, just goes to show you how far compositional skills can take you, instead of what you use to compose.

@RaioneruSol Beat merely symbolizes the tempo and rhythm in time. Also, these ARE remixes of songs that were composed on cartridges that could only hold 256kb of memory (Not much time/space for songs.) Much less than the usual GB sized memory files of today's games. Even then, I wouldn't classify the remixes as having a "simple change" in music or tone. There's a wealth of creativity lying behind the improvisational portions of the pieces.

Sonic Colors succeeds where the so, so many other Sonic games have failed. Sega has put hard work into this game and this is the result. While some of the stages are annoying, it is overshadowed by nice music and excellent gameplay. Thank you Sega for finally and hopefully, learning for your mistakes.

@kuki217 Though, the songs are good, the music could have a lot more potential if they tried harder with the music. It's too repetative with the same beats. I prefer the Unleashed Music, mainly because of the fast beat and tempo that catches Sonic's image perfectly when running. Especially the jazzy solo the put into it.

@RoundPinkKirby oh, well i actually like this music, i dont know, do you mean "repeative" like every act have same type of music, but i think theyre going back to orginal, like sonic 3 had same type of music in every act, but bit different. Also, they didnt have that "sonic running" in every act, like sonic 2 oil ocean, sonic and knuckles sandopolis for example. This is only sonic game that i've enjoyed since 1- s&k. even tho jokes are lame and childish.

@kololoilo While the older games didn't exactly have the best instrumental sounds for music (Genesis MIDI), there was alot more potential in the pieces. Here's an example of what new Sonic games could hold that pretty much just blow away most of the pieces here, at least in my opinion.
