There are not many changes to Paganism because the song is pagan enough. Yes, I changed only a couple lines as also the one that talks about Jesus as the king... but it is clear enough throughout the entire song-- with the original lyrics-- that the King and God in question here is the Sun. "Star light, star bright" the Sun is a Star; "Westward leading, still proceeding" the Sun travels endlessly towards the west; ...
You DO realize that the original Kings that they were singing about came from the Babylonian east in the Biblical account were the "Magi" (or magician-sorcerers.) It didn't really take any changes to Paganize this song. I LOVE the way that it's done though, both the music and the song.
@donnaclifton Yes, you are most correct! The three kings were Magi, I'm Brazilian and in Brazil we call them the three magicians (Magi in plural). But, i decided to change it for three witches, not only because most people will associate the Three Kings with the 3 Magi that went to visit Jesus when He was born, but also because I am a woman singing the song and Three Witches sounded more melodic than three Magi.
where was this for yule? well, i got it for next solstice lol
