  • hey How do you create addons for Celestia on a mac does any one know?

  • @diddlman That's unlikely. There are several possibilities, you tried a dodgy site for teh download, there is a false alarm, the spyware software has a concern about a feature in the software, your browser and environment is compromised and a payload was injected into your download or the software has been pwned.

Spyware could mean atracking cookie, be discerning. Celestia is a major open source software project, it's not some fly-by-night download with malware.

  • @diddlman I give clear instructions in the video on finding this, but really you claiming there's malware doesn't make it so. Some packages consider cookies spyware and false alarms are common. You have gone from spyware to viruses. Please calm down and avoid disinformation and digest the earlier reply.

Google Celestia, and click on the top Celestia:Home link. If you find malware the problem is probably on your end.

  • macs are pcs btw.

  • @Anon12356

Agreed, they always were and are even moreso today, but if we're going to be pedantic then Apple products are not constrained to the Mac.

Apple itself draws the distinction between Mac & PC because PC implies other things about the architecture and software, even if most Macs are essentially identical to a PC now w.r.t. electronics hardware.

  • @dorbie

    Yeah lol :p

  • " i am a cybernetic organism "

  • Celestia is great. I've spent several afternoons just playing with it. I didn't realize there were high-res add-ons available. Thanks.

  • Does celestia has niburu?

  • There is no Niburu or Planet X. There are many uneducated people online posting a lot of hysterical crap about this promoted by a few either seriously misguided or seriously immoral individuals.

There are several large Kuiper belt objects / drawf planets including Pluto now and Celestica has them.

Celestica even has planets around other stars that have been discovered by astronomers. It's pretty amazing what it shows.

Google "Bad Astronomy Niburu" or read the wikipedia entry.

  • "Celestia"

  • @vaju79 its hidden, cut out of the program.

  • @vaju79 No. Know why? Because the Universe doesn't. But you can check it in the Sci-Fi download section.

  • That's no moon! I got a bad feeling about this!

  • is it better than google earth?

  • @MrStartrekepisodes

The two applications do very different things. Your question is a bit like asking if Word is better than Internet Explorer.

  • "google solar system" XD

  • Celestia is incredible, download it and get the addons

  • This is great. Google Earth also has an amazing feature whereby you can use telescope imagery from the likes of Hubble and see the entire night sky using whatever spectrum you want. Infrared, X-Ray, Microwave, UV, visual light. You can see the Crab Nebula, Orion, the Andromeda galaxy and can also look at the planets. You can see the Moon's craters in incredible detail, fly over Olympus Mons, and, of course check out our own pale blue dot.

  • @Rafterman123

I helped write Google Earth when I worked at Keyhole. It is a very cool software application. When I was there one small thing I did was write the code for the stars and the sky atmosphere, but that was not what the astronomy sky browser is about really, it's just an interesting factoid since you mentioned the product.

  • I just got Celestia and it is amazing. I played around with it for an hour, then I downloaded a few extra things, and I'm currently in the process of downloading the educational version that has all the cool little activities. I recommend it to everyone, even if you don't like space.

  • Mowgli thanks Celestia for algorithms

  • I've just discovered Celestia, it is awesome!

  • I got celestia on linux

  • I have Celestia, it's the best thing you could ever get for free. And your accent is awesome too.

  • Great video, well produced.

  • Thanks for posting this - I have both Celestia and Starry Night Pro (though I use Celestia more with the high rez textures) extensively in helping plan out my shots for the film.
