Zero. A .50 caliber firearm is considered exactly the same as any other common firearm (e.g. a .308 rifle, a .223 rifle, etc.) and is regulated the same. In VA, like in most states, permits are not needed.
If the rifle has a bore diameter >0.50in, then you need federal approval, as any such gun (other than shotguns and very few exceptions) are considered "destructive devices".

No, it's not illegal, as has been explained in previous comments. All of the firearms in the video are perfectly legal (look up the National Firearms Act of 1934 on Wikipedia for more information about the law in question), and the people are obeying state and federal laws.

The laws differ state to state, with certain states (California, for example) having very strict restrictions, while others are considerably more free.
In general, people can buy and own any single shot, revolver, or semi-auto gun without any trouble. Blackpowder cannons are essentially unregulated.
Machine guns, short barreled rifles/shotguns, etc. are considerably more restricted and expensive, and require federal approval.

No problem. The laws are obviously more detailed than the brief summary I made above, but in general law-abiding Americans have the right to own "ordinary" firearms (e.g. not machine guns, but including semi-auto guns) for whatever lawful purpose they wish. In nearly all states, no license, no permit, or registration is needed.
Obviously, criminals have certain rights curtailed, and usually are prohibited from owning or using handling firearms.

I don't like to feed trolls like GiftedPineCone but: The rate of incarceration is higher in America for crimes in general, not just gun crimes. An American car thief or burglar or drug dealer is much more likely to go to prison than his European or Asian counterpart. And he will stay there longer. Maybe we just take such things more seriously than everyone else.

What, exactly, does a bunch of law-abiding, safe, responsible private citizens having fun with legally-owned automatic firearms have anything to do with a military officer killing several other soldiers on a military base, using only handguns? The weapons are completely different.
Also, your statement that "weapons like this...only cause problems" is demonstrably false: they're being used for fun in this video. Fun is not a problem, is it?
There's plenty of violence elsewhere in the world too.

Where exactly is there as many guns as the USA? Places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Ethiopia etc....so if you want to be grouped with countries like that I'm more than happy. Violent communities based on murder and retribution. In no other civilised country in the world does so much gun violence occur...and the USA prison rates for gun violence are at least 20 times higher than the next country....but, I guess that doesn't effect your warped logic, so what will? Yes, the US has a large number of guns per capita. It also has a large amount of violent crime. However, such violent crime tends to be limited to gang-infested, urban areas. The average, non-gang-member American is about as likely to be shot as the average Australian.

You are, I trust, aware that buying a gun from a dealer in the US requires a federal background check, right? Not just anyone can buy them. Automatic firearms are exceedingly tightly regulated, and require substantial paperwork to own. They're also very expensive.
What's wrong with semi-auto guns or handguns?
Anyway, what's wrong with offering a perk (be it $50, a gun, a chance at a new car, etc.) in a promotion, so long as it's legal?

Indeed, FBI statistics indicate that guns are used far more often to protect people from criminals than they're used to commit crimes. Seems that gun ownership has a positive effect.

The world's not ideal -- there are criminals out there. Statistics in the US show that guns are more often used to protect from crime than to commit it.
I don't know why prison rates here are higher for gun violence...perhaps because criminals are convicted more often? Honestly, I don't know. Either way, it has no bearing on lawful gun ownership.

There's nothing responsible about firing two automatic rifles at once, it's just a mindless action. Nobody gains anything from firing guns like this; there's no skill involved, nor are you teaching kids any lessons other than reckless behaviour.
This video garnishes unfathomable laughter from people I show it to, it's a fine example of the mass stupdity of the USA.

I want my son shooting from the age of 5. I would rather he have a healthy respect for the damage they can do, and a good understanding of gun safety so he doesn't make mistakes with one if he comes across one without me being there.
using a gun the wrong way is forgivable, ignorance of how to is not. Parents have to take the path that gives their kids the information to be able to make the right decisions, blinding them to how to be safe around these is almost neglect IMO.

I'm not trying to put the people in the video down at all, I am just curious what the reason behind an event like this is (besides being fun and getting together with like-minded people, obviously). It seems to me like the adults are being very responsible and watching the kids very closely, including holding onto the gun in some cases.
Holding up New York and DC as the pinnacles of gun safety is laughable: even with DC's ineffective, racist gun control (look up gun control's history), it's one of the most violent, crime-ridden cities in the country.

Such accidents are at an all-time low due to education efforts.
That said, it has nothing to do with letting the kids safely handle firearms with proper adult supervision at a range.
As you might notice, these kids don't seem to think of guns as "mysterious objects", but know what they are.
I also suspect that the parents keep their multiple-tens-of-thousands-of-dollars worth of legally-irreplaceable machine guns in a proper safe, rather than in a closet.
