The programmer did reverse the positions of the king and queen, but it is not a total loss. The game has an option, not shown in the video, that let's the user construct a custom starting piece layout. Presumably that is to recreate "classic" Chess scenarios. However, there is no reason the user couldn't assemble the board as the standard starting point, only ensuring the king and queen are properly placed.
I see what you mean. Not being a big Chess player, I hadn't noticed that. The Mattel version got it right. Since they're still mirror images of each other, it shouldn't affect gameplay, correct? This software is tragic. Even the starting position is set up wrongly. The white/black King and Queen are in the wrong starting positions!!!
