thats not true, because you have to break the license sticker to change a face plate on the ps3, i even reset my blue ray after it quit working and when my harddrive crashed, i sent it to sony and they still fixed my ps3 for free, and it was almost a year after warranty lol.

well, I think the typical RROD fix won't be detected unless you send them the device at some time. but if you have to replace a chip, or any device that its identity get sent to Live, then your xbox would get banned. I"m not expert, this is my understanding based on what I read, but in anyway, I feel uncomfortable with that rule even in theory. I should have the right to fix it anywhere without having to pay $100 or more once the warranty expire.

@dillonmay771 With the PS3, the only way you could get away with hacking/opening it to play bootlegged games would be if you had no internet connection. Even then, you'd have to read how to get hypervisor access, and from their be able to send processes to each spe.The closest anyone every got was getting to hypervisor access. From there nothing has been done further. Sony has security in place that stops you from using mod chips or anything. Go to play a bootlegged game and watch how it denys.
Im pretty sure you dont get banned, that would be silly and disrespectur to the customers, I got mine fixed at a third party place(the place I bought it from) and it came just fine with all my save data.

@undocumentedspot funny you mention that, i just so happen to have a friend who works for an xbox 360 call centre, and he's had many instances where ppl sent in their consoles for repair and but ended up with the repair shops banning the consoles and sometimes never returning them because of modding. U ppl need to read the XBL agreement, you do not technically own ur xbox once u agree to it. lol the stories he tells me, he's even had ppl cry over the phone. its funny to say the least.

microsoft almost got rid of the RROD by putting in the jasper chip in the 360 which get rid of amost 50-90 percent of things that produce the RROD plus who cares if you have to send your console in for 1-3 weeks its not like your going to kill yourself

I don't play much, and my xbox died after 8 months of no much play!. you don't have to defend the defect, MS acknowledged it already.
I have question though about PS3, if you repair your PS3 yourself, or let third party do it, would that get you a ban on PSN?

Unless you know what you're doing 100% I wouldn't try it. Once you actually open the case on it, or allow someone other than Sony to repair it, you void your warranty. As far as a ban on PSN I don't know. You would have to ask Sony.

because M$ official rules are to ban anyone who open the case, or repair the system in other than M$ repair center. I wonder if this is same with PS3. if not , it would be really great advantage over 360. I think I ll get PS3 beside my xbox, but way in the future. maybe when project natal/anal start to give results.

well, I think the typical RROD fix won't be detected unless you send them the device at some time. but if you have to replace a chip, or any device that its identity get sent to Live, then your xbox would get banned. I"m not expert, this is my understanding based on what I read, but in anyway, I feel uncomfortable with that rule even in theory. I should have the right to fix it anywhere without having to pay $100 or more once the warranty expire.

@dillonmay771 With the PS3, the only way you could get away with hacking/opening it to play bootlegged games would be if you had no internet connection. Even then, you'd have to read how to get hypervisor access, and from their be able to send processes to each spe.The closest anyone every got was getting to hypervisor access. From there nothing has been done further. Sony has security in place that stops you from using mod chips or anything. Go to play a bootlegged game and watch how it denys.

@jiddabug21 M$ care. that's their official policy. you open xbox case and you can get banned from live, if they know about it of course. if you replace some parts by the way, they can know about it, (unless you do some very good hack).
or if you send it for repair, it happened for people according to what I read on xbox support forum.
If Sony doesn't do that, that's great. I ll wait to see how Kinect turn out, and whether it will be bam there it is or not. xbox slim looks good too

@undocumentedspot funny you mention that, i just so happen to have a friend who works for an xbox 360 call centre, and he's had many instances where ppl sent in their consoles for repair and but ended up with the repair shops banning the consoles and sometimes never returning them because of modding. U ppl need to read the XBL agreement, you do not technically own ur xbox once u agree to it. lol the stories he tells me, he's even had ppl cry over the phone. its funny to say the least.

I understand M$ has right to put rules for their service and warranty. but that doesn't mean we can't protest. beside, I'm not even talking about modding. it does make sense to ban modding from the live.
but the questions: 1-why M$ officially can ban people who just open the case and fix it themselves? 2-why can't M$ unban consoles after removing mods even for a fee?

@undocumentedspot well i guess halarity is all subjective.. but they have the right to ban a console for life because of that big user agreement thats required for xbl that no one reads. it says that they own the intellectual property, services and software in ur system and if they spot any evidence of tampering or even attempts to reverse engineer, modify, disassemble, or decomplie anything in it then they can take away all XBL software from the system making it impossible to ever get on XBL.

Microsoft only cares about making a quick dollar anyway. If microsoft was so much better, why do 30% of their consoles break? That's this year. Last year it was like 53%. You have to pay for online. You have to pay for a plug n play kit. You have to buy an external wifi thing. All of these the PS3 has built in. That just shows that Xbox is just doing things the cheapest way possible. Plus the Xbox was released a year before the PS3. Yet it still has so many failure problems.

What are you paying for exactly? I've seen someone playing online on both consoles with that game and there was no difference. The developer does not have to worry about multi-threading beyond the point of getting their code to be thread safe; once it is multi-threaded, it can easily be run on any of the cores. Also, only like 3 blu-ray games have been made for Ps3, 3. I would rather take 20 awesome games on regular dvd than 3 bluray games. Plus have you seen graphic comparison between Xbox 360 and Ps3 for multiplatform games? GTA4 or MW2, the Xbox beats the PS3 due to the major graphical tearing and graphical lag. @havoc1310 Well I only own like 3 games for my PS3 right now and they all use a blu ray disc. There is a lot of awesome games on the PS3. And your 20 Xbox games? Microsoft just keeps milking halo. Halo odst is the same engine as halo 3 just with different story. LBP, UC2, Socom, Killzone 2, God of war, etc.. The PS3 is way more powerful and it's exclusives show that. I read a lot that GTA4 was a lot smoother and has more anti aliasing on the PS3.

@havoc1310 If you look at any of the PS3 exclusives they all have better graphics then any Xbox exclusive. Xbox is maxed out with Gears 2. Look at Killzone 2 or something and see for your self. And several of my friends have had their Xbox's break multiple times due to either red ring or broken disc drive.
