Great vid. Do you know of a vid which can teach me about different varieties of taro, what they look/taste like, and how to grow them? I live in QLD Australia and would love to grow taro to eat.
Everytime I seen a Samoan or Tongan athlete get asked "what is your secret?" they mostly reply "taro". I used to roll my eyes and think 'whatever' but now, your vid has got me thinking. Awesome vid.
Another great educational vid! I learned a lot! Maybe I'm confusing it with another plant, but hasn't taro been an important food in the Amazon Jungle, too. I'm talking about a plant that they grind into granduals or powder, with big mortars & pestles.
I think you're thinking of açaí, which is a type of small palm. The whole plant is used by indigenous peoples in those areas for everything from drinks to food. Taro was introduced into the Caribbean and S. America in the 19th century along.
I am gla dthat you didn't forget to mention about the use of taro in western sumatra by planting it around the house to ward of evil spirit and it is still practice among malay and orang asli villagers in malaysia..That is one of the petua. And definitely I love the songs .. we We also use taro for medicinal purposes to cure specific illness according 2 the type and species of taro
Makes Auntie hungry. Wish we had access to good fresh kalo over here in Ohio. I was able to get some twice, but not so good quality. And nomo poi pounder. I had to improvise, but worth it. Glad you didn't play George Kahumoku's soing about footprints in the poit.
