It's still wide open and there's absolutely nothing to stop you researching the answers. I know if I do an on-line quiz people might be able to research them, and that was taken into account when making the questions. That's why, in answer to uptodat's point, it doesn't look too easy. I have to pitch it so that you can't go straight into Wikipedia and get the answers, but at least look around a bit and learn possibly some new stuff along the way.

There are people on the net in certain discussion groups I know who would walk this, and that's why I don't really want to throw it that wide open. You really need to clarify question 3. The answer depends on whether you use PPP or market exchange rate to convert GDP to the same currency.

I mean in absolute terms, as I don't go a bundle on purchasing power parity calculations as they are a too subjective measure (no-one actually buys the basket, and in fact you cannot make a basket that actually reflects the world's consumption. A basket that contains no cheese would reflect the Chinese reality, as they don't make it, but the French would consider a basket with no cheese in it to be a waste of a good basket!)

Simply because market exchange rates are manipulated by too many irrelevant factors, e.g. China keeping their currency artificially deflated to the chagrin of the present US administration.

Yes, but what reality? The linguist, when choosing what languages to learn, has the following reality - how much work can I do with this language. Other things being equal, this will depend on the overall GDP and not the purchasing power experienced by a native speaker at home. If a person is considering going to live in a place, then PPP is of greater interest, but that is a different decision to working out which languages are a better investment to learn.
