very nice the 6 part series of the famous Goldberg variations from the giant Eisenach´s genius and Leipzig Kantor J.S.Bach, written in 1742, they represent one of the mouments of the keyboard music from the baroque period
Haha, yes, my mum used to think it was a ghost whilst she was listening to it alone... must've been quite spooky, I imagine. My dad laughed at that and told her Gould has a tendency to humm while he plays haha.
He's an excellent pianist, though, and that sort of makes up for it =]
Shaeneh, I hear Gould humming along with the music at certain points too. That was one of his eccentricities while playing, the others including needing a high temperature in the recording room. He said the humming came from his mother telling him to sing everything he played, and that is his way of striving to express something that even the music falls short of doing.
A sublime set of videos! Look at his reason for re-recording them.
Thank you for posting this most magnificent work played by the most magnficent Glenn Gould. For those of you who have listened to all six parts kindly bestowed by wmd10, can you feel that rhythmic pulse?
Perfect.
