from what my girlfriend told me about this dance (shes from Norway) the boys dance this for the girls to basically ask them out, the woman holds the hat on the end of a long pole and the man has to kick it off, basically sealing the deal XD, thank god she didnt make me dance this but i want to learn it one day, i might dance this before i ask her to marry me XD
the whole halling dance is basicly to show strenght and how friggin high you can (kick a hat off a pole)some people do a backflip kickking a hat thats over 13.12
This is me dancing ! I won the Oslo-kappleiken C-class with it! :D Thanks to Lars Ingar`s Grandpa who record this and thanks to Lars Ingar (the Fiddle man) and Ingrid(the girl who hold the hat) Thanks! ;D

A good dance indeed.
It needs very strong legs as well as flexibility.
Thanks for sharing this .
