Most dyno results point to the Cobra R having much more than 375HP. An old classmate of mine has one, if I were to get a mustang it would be this one.

Put a Pulley, exhaust, intake, and tune in it. You'll be running 500 to the wheels for like $1500. The new 5.0 makes about the same hp, BUT you'd have to put at least 3k into to keep up with a cobra. Also, look at the Cobra's 0-60. It's just as fast as the 540 hp GT500....still want to put the cobra down?

The new mustang gt(ie., the 2011 and up) claims 412 but only puts about 360 to the rear wheels. When you add this to the fact that the new mustang weighs about 100 or 200 lbs more and is NOT decked out for RACING, then you get one obvious conclusion. The 2000 cobra r would beat the new GT in not only straight line (0-60, 1/4, 1/8, etc) but it would also OWN it on the track. Cobra R>GT

@racer135790 cobra r is a race car. didnt come with a radio, didnt come with AC, didnt come with backseats. It was designed for the track, and you had to have a racing license to purchase one. Only 300 were made, probably even less still exist....cuz it was designed for racing, which is what many used it for. And the new mustang along with the new camaro SS both were tested to produce about 360-365 at the rear wheels, NOT the flywheel, the REAR wheels. Do the research.

The numbers I had for the 00 R on weight were a little of, but the '11 GT was pretty much dead on. So, I would love to hear two things explained. 1)Aside from the R's weight, what was false in what I said? You corroborated EVERYTHING I said. And I wouldn't say the R would "walk" a GT500, but it will keep up with one.

As for the dyno numbers, its hard to compare, because different dynos read different. On a dynojet, it might make 380-385, while on a mustang dyno, it might read 355-365. You consider a specific car (let say the GTR) a supercar and a couple of years later when it gets surpassed by a new technology you say it went down a class or two. So the R wasnt a supercar. @2000cobraRmustang Don't forget that the Cobra R has made very close to Ford's HP claims on dynos. Ford gives the Engine's rating while a dyno gives you actual WHP. Most dyno results point to the Cobra R having much more than 375HP. An old classmate of mine has one, if I were to get a mustang it would be this one.

@racer135790 Yeah but here's the thing...take an 04 cobra, which by the way, Ford sandbagged numbers, and it really made 400 to the wheels from the factory. Put a Pulley, exhaust, intake, and tune in it. You'll be running 500 to the wheels for like $1500. The new 5.0 makes about the same hp, BUT you'd have to put at least 3k into to keep up with a cobra. Also, look at the Cobra's 0-60. It's just as fast as the 540 hp GT500....still want to put the cobra down?

@racer135790 first of all, the 2000 cobra r has been dyno proven to put down all of its 385 to the wheels. The new mustang gt(ie., the 2011 and up) claims 412 but only puts about 360 to the rear wheels. When you add this to the fact that the new mustang weighs about 100 or 200 lbs more and is NOT decked out for RACING, then you get one obvious conclusion. The 2000 cobra r would beat the new GT in not only straight line (0-60, 1/4, 1/8, etc) but it would also OWN it on the track. Cobra R>GT

@racer135790 cobra r is a race car. didnt come with a radio, didnt come with AC, didnt come with backseats. It was designed for the track, and you had to have a racing license to purchase one. Only 300 were made, probably even less still exist....cuz it was designed for racing, which is what many used it for. And the new mustang along with the new camaro SS both were tested to produce about 360-365 at the rear wheels, NOT the flywheel, the REAR wheels. Do the research.

2. The new GT puts about 360whp down. The Cobra R puts about...360whp down.
3. The new GT is about 3700lbs. The Cobra R is about 3400lbs.
The Cobra R would pull over 1.0g stock. The new GT wouldn't come close to that.
On a road course, the R would whip a new GT like a red-headed stepchild.
On the dragstrip, it will keep up with the 500hp GT500 fairly well.

@ADD8oi Last dyno I've seen of a new 5.0 GT is about 360-370whp. Last dyno I saw of a Cobra R was about 365-370whp. The numbers I had for the 00 R on weight were a little of, but the '11 GT was pretty much dead on. So, I would love to hear two things explained. 1)Aside from the R's weight, what was false in what I said? You corroborated EVERYTHING I said. And I wouldn't say the R would "walk" a GT500, but it will keep up with one.

As for the dyno numbers, its hard to compare, because different dynos read different. On a dynojet, it might make 380-385, while on a mustang dyno, it might read 355-365. I'm more conservative and go with the lower ratings than higher, because I'd rather have someone call me wrong for saying it's 15hp too low, than for being too high.

Too cost prohibitive, and very few of the super-unique pieces even exist today, including the intake manifold, which can run $10K or more.
