  • 70.3 god damn

  • he was like having peyton manning, ed reed, and craig hentrich all in one

    talk about fantasy football

  • sammy was my grandpas first cousin..... we went and visited him in rotan quite a bit and i remember him saying that he prolly wouldnt even make the practice squad of a NFL team now a days!

  • The more I learned about Slingin' Sammy the more I would throw his name into conversations about the best QB ever. Then, one day it hit me! You can't limit this man to best QB...he belongs in the best PLAYER category.

  • You are so right! This is one throw-back player that would easily be a winner in today's era too. Can you imagine any of the current NFL QBs tossing 4 TDs in a game, and ALSO intercepting 4 passes from the opposing team's QB all in the same game? Lots of players are great.....Sammy Baugh was legendary.

  • uh thats all find and dandy guy! the average weight back then was 220 lbs or less. the impact is not the same as today! besides players arent trained to go both ways! substituition rules where different, coverage schemes werent that intricate and you dont have a 6'6 350 pound defensive tackle that runs 4.7 in the 40 breathing down your neck!! hell i would luv to see these over paid dodo's wear a helmet without a facemask!

  • You may not believe this but I share the same name as him,And I think that he is in my family.

  • in 1937 he threw for 335 yards against the bears at wrigley field, on a day when it was so cold the field turned to ice. oh yeah he also had 2 50+ yd punts and 1 interception. that was just when he was a rookie

  • could you imagine what he woulda' done with today's receivers?

  • Hi there, one could argue that Baugh was the greatest qb ever and i would certainly rank him in the top 3, but saying the best player bar none is not accurate as Hudson, Brown and Rice were better and even if you love Baugh, there is no way you can say he was inarguably more domiante than those 3 and a few other players just as you can not say Brown or whoever was arguably more domainte than anyone ever.

  • when sayin that, you have to put these players in every era of football to see if their skill sets would work! i dont know what position baugh would play if this was 1975 or 1995? vice versa. so i wouldnt call anybody the best ever of all time! cuz football is over 100 years old! and each decade holds phenomenal players!

  • I'm surprised I rarely see this guy on top 10 quarterback lists. Very few QBs were as dominant as slingin' Sammy.

  • I'm surprised he even lasted to 94.

  • sam was my grandfather's cousin and a really nice, down to earth man. he will be sorely missed.

  • I love football...and i love the stars and pioneers of this game...Sammy was just the best..he's the best player ever...no more words needed. RIP Sammy....you'll be always remembered, like the best football player...

  • One time Bear's great Sid Luckman tackled Baugh so hard he knocked him out of a game. It must've been something seeing those guys play. Sammy Baugh might have been the greatest NFL player of all time. Imagine a top QB today like Peyton Manning also leading the Colt in interceptions and punting average of 51 yards!

  • I was looking at the stats of some of the best QBs ever. Baugh is more than "right up there." If someone called him the greatest ever, I wouldn't argue.....

  • @lemonite1 Just think if this amazing man had the league rules where the qb was protected today? Or the recievers! or Line! It would be amazing this man would have put marino peyton favre brady breese and any others to shame.

  • @SIMPLYTEETS Wow! Funny coincidence! I was in a bar last week and a bunch-o-dudes were arguing/discussing who was the best QB in history. Marino,Montana,Brady,Manning,Elway etc.. I said,"Sammy Baugh!" and they all stopped/mouths agape. Then they all said,"That old guy? He wouldn't have a chance against today's defences!" Tsk, if they only knew......

  • i think they were refering to the size and speed of todays players! i believe SLINGING SAMMY dealt with guys that weigh no more than 240 lbs! i dont think theres any player of that era that was over 300 lbs!

  • LOL. I hate guys like that. Man guys were getting takled by the face, getting punched and getting hit in the knees all the time.

  • @SIMPLYTEETS Yeah, rosters were small too. You had to play the whole game, regardless of small injuries. Nowadays they jump on the IR for nothing. I guess it all has to do with money. Back then the team was your boss and you got paid to win games. Now, everyone is a free agent and is out playing for themselves. There weren't any steroids either.

  • Well look to he played safety and punter HE WAS AN IRON MAN. They didnt work out or anything either they just had the gift.

  • Amazing stats!Condolences to his friends and family.

  • The record mentioned around :45 is an NFL record, not just Washington's. Amazing.

  • Baugh & Bronko Nagurski are the 2 greatest players ever...

  • Although Slingin' Sammy's heyday was way before my time, as a Washington Redskins fan I can appreciate his awesome contributions to the team and to the city of Washington. Rest in peace, Sammy...

  • wanting new friends

    comment me back lM

  • RIP SAMMY u were the greatest we'll all miss you

  • RIP the grestest ever. The Redskins nation loves ya man!

  • i have a signed framed photo of slingin sammy on my bedside cabinet he is simply the greatest redskin in the teams history and one of the greatest of all time.

  • I love Darrel Green, Art Monk, John Riggins, Charley Taylor, etc.

But this man was the great Redskins of them all. I wish I could've been alive to see him lead his Skins to victory

    RIP SAMMY - HAIL REDSKINS

  • one of the greatest to ever touch a pigskin,

    RIP Sammy

  • Remember the pioneers. Sammy was special, and the game has changed now so that his versatility will never be matched. RIP Sammy, some of us remember you, Luckman, Nagurski, Grange, Graham, Motley (add to the list?)

  • The greatest NFL player ever

  • Yea, that single season punting record is an NFL record, not just a Redskins team record. and he's 2nd for career punting average, all time NFL. ridiculous indeed.

  • Sammy Baugh is one of the best players to ever play the game. Sammy is known for being a QB, but he played many positions with equal and amazing ability. He holds records for his play on offense and defense. Sammy Baugh loved football and in later years, would watch it on television all day long. He was a player, coach, fan, and more. Sammy Baugh was a loving and caring person. He will be missed. Heaven just got a new starting QB. Sammy Baugh. Thank you. George Vreeland Hill
  • Now that was a man!

  • A living legend died. R.I.P.

  • amazing to have played football and lived to 94

4 touchdowns on offense and then picking off 4 passes on defense in the same game is crazy

also lead to the league in passing , then on defense lead in interceptions , and also lead league in punting is just ridiculous

    RIP Sammy Baugh
