    x_x

  • it took me 36 minutes just to figure out how to friggin shoot!

  • I've seen a lot of speed runs for this and I think yours is the most professional and entertaining.

  • What does tool assisted mean?

  • Wow... I had absolutely no clue that you could skip the torizo fight.

  • @SomeRandomMoron Ya, I completely surprised about that.

  • @SomeRandomMoron Your not supposed to be able to. IUn a Tool Assisted run though you can get through the door fast enough.

  • WAVEDASH!?!?!

  • o my gosh amazing

  • did anyone else find this game like a bit nerve-wracking when they were little?

  • @Omgheytux Dude, I got stuck so much when I was 4 and playing this when it first came out.

  • 1:26 the baby metroid is moving but samus and the scientist is not moving. The bayby metroid is super fast?? xD

  • @Omix98 Nah, Samus and the Doctor where just having a staring contest.

  • Super Missile this early!

Is this even related? I should care why?

  • @DarrenNicolaye3 That's so sad... I hope things have gotten better since you posted that.

  • 'O'

Teh epicness is leaping off mah screen!!!1

  • Space collony will self desturct in one minute please evacuate inimediately.

Samus: i can do it in twelve seconds!

  • what does 100% tool assisted mean? Is it some kind of cheat? - No offence

  • @achalter 100% all items

  • 3:02 Samus became hyperactive.

  • I think more time was spent playing the music when you picked up an item, then you actually playing the game, lol! Brilliant run.

  • Man if you made a full game 100% 36mins, i need to see your work in a game that it doesn't matter about the items, but about less time..

  • @Qwertyied Such a run is already on my channel.

  • @Cpadolf0 so how does tas work like does it play by itself or just does whatever?

  • @236andre

TAS works by having the emulator slow the game down so you can do each frame one at a time, and you can save at any time and go back to any frame. For reference, there's usually about sixty frames in one second of actual gameplay.

While it's slowed down like this, the player still needs to do all the input themselves, it's just a lot easier than playing in real time. It's not intended to be skillful, per se, but an example of how the game can be done perfectly. The movie is the art.

  • @SylvanLynch well i think of it like this, speedruns aren't a show of button pressing skills, they are a display of strategy and innovation

  • @236andre

For more information, please click on the second link in this video's description. It'll cover it in more detail.

  • @236andre

    Ah, sorry, third comment :(

I know I said the player has to do all the button presses on there own, but that's not /entirely/ true. There are some automated button-pressing scripts, but few if any of them are designed to play the entire game. Usually they're intended for repetitive or common tricks. Only the simplest of games (dance dance revolution, for example) can be completely automated.

  • ^wtf.. this is ... omg,.

  • I still think this was the best game in the series, and one of the top 10 best games ever made.

The 2d games, in many cases, really were superior to their more "modern" 3d sequels.

  • So wait, you're playing in slow motion to make it easier to pull off the tricks, which is pretty brilliant tactic, but still cheating.

Still, 36 minutes for 100% is INcredible.

I used to complete the game in about half an hour on the SNES, but never that fast with 100%: Bare minimum gear, go win!

I got to motherbrain one time (and beat her,) with so few energy tanks that the game wouldn't trigger the script to make the Super Metroid attack her, so then I had to start my speed run over.

  • i told my friends in the work about this speedrun. they said: fuck you you lie. at the next day. i asked him: you seen it? Friend: ... yes... his mind was fucked up xDD like mine ^^

  • That item theme is becoming annoying...

  • lmfao my eyes started bleeding at 8:02

  • how is 8:01 possible? i thought you could only get there with speed boost!

  • @RixdorferWurstmusik Thats very possible with out the speed booster.... just not the way he did it, but its a TAS so yeah

  • I think that is cool

  • 6:56

    Samus: Whoo! Made it!

    Torizo: T_T

  • 6:54 ....the fuck??

  • 6:15- 35 fucked up my mind.

  • Dude, you're not human.

  • super metroid one of the greatest snes game!!

  • WDFux didnt do mockball. Hacks?

  • wooooooooooooooooooooooooow

  • @FlameDragon400

She already was man. Already was.

  • How exactly do you do a Tool Assisted Run? What dose that mean? How can I play this game Tool Assisted?

  • @ShaunOfNintendo Simply put, you play the game at super slow speed (like, one pixel at a time) and abuse the hell out of savestates to overwrite any "bad" parts. You literally push the game to its limits and then some.

  • @ShaunOfNintendo tasvideos org. a great community that makes tool-assisted videos. you can read up on it there.

  • is this the PAL, or the US version? that part where u get out of the first torizos room without fighting him, is it only possible on the pal right?

  • Damn, Samus on Steroids lol

  • I pretty sure Chuck Norris is the one playing this.

  • lol at how you jumped back through the door before the chozo actually got up to fight. my jaw dropped, hit the ground, dragged around for a while, and came back up.

  • I did a speedrun on my super nintendo without TAS

its crazy how my super nintendo still works lol

  • I wish I could, but i can't. I don't have an emulator. But at least i have this for the original system lol.

  • that makes sense i guess. does it depend on what game it is though?

  • how is that possible?

  • how come you skip stuff, or do you get them in a certain order.

    nice vid, though!

  • @Videogamemasterz I don't skip stuff, I just get them in the fastest order.

  • Comment removed

  • watching this run makes you think that this is the way samus would have actually done this lol

  • Hell yeah, this shows Samus Aran's true skills.

  • 6:56 Chozo Fail XD

  • How do you do that to skip Torizo?

  • The wall jumping was spectacular and getting the exiting the room before the Chozo statue came to life and before the door could close on you was astounding.

  • how di u fly in a diration if u get hit by enemis?? thats cool

  • what is TAS

  • I don't know. Maybe the movie description, you know, the thing that is supposed to describe what the video is about has some information on that...

  • @Cpadolf0 haha!

  • do you know how to get tool assist?

  • @Cpadolf0 hehe

  • @Jecht111 "Tool Assisted Speedrun" "TAS"

    ...

    Yeah...

  • @Jecht111 and by tools it's referred mostly in this run the game has been slowed down considerably, around a half to a third of realtime speed.

Putting a game into slowmo and giving it to some already great player who knows the game through and through can do so extremely jaw dropping things.

  • @Jecht111 It means Tool Assisted Speedrun

  • @Jecht111 TAS = Tool Assisted Speedrun

Is the quite title not that clearly enough for you?

  • Whats a reserve tank???

    I'm clueless!!!

  • You have a normal health bar, and then you have your reserve tanks. If you run out of health on the normal bar, your reserve tanks will be used up (they're basically the same as energy tanks, just in reserve and they can be partially filled). You can have up to 4 if you can find them all. Check your pause menu to see how much reserve energy you have.

  • How do you do the quick shift when she gets damage?

  • Do a wall jump off the damage source

  • Aim bots ?

  • i dont like tool assisted runs. but this one is beast!!

  • ninja

  • omg!!!

  • @icebeam91

    wtf!!!

  • bbq

  • How is he running so fast?!?!?

  • tool assisted

  • @Cpadolf0 what did hAJPNO say?

  • @Videogamemasterz He just asked a question, not really anything important.

  • @Cpadolf0 what did he ask and how is it not important?

  • @Videogamemasterz He just asked how I did the trick where I make a bomb spread (by morphing while charging my beam) in mid air. And I told him it is done by looking down and turning a<round in mid air, then pressing down again just as you have finished turning around.

  • @Cpadolf0 how is that possible?

  • @Videogamemasterz I just wrote how it is possible.

  • @Cpadolf0 it doesn't work. maybe because your are using an emulator.

  • @Videogamemasterz No it only requires extremely precision (you only have a window of 0.0167 seconds where you can press down even if you do everything else correctly). Therefore it is very hard to do it without tool assistance.

  • @Cpadolf0 it tool assistance on pc?

  • @Cpadolf0 so you are saying that if i don't have tool assistance, then it is not possible on the actual console (SNES).

  • @Videogamemasterz No I'm saying that it is very hard, it isn't actually impossible.

  • @Cpadolf0 is it harder on the snes or using tool assistance?

    I am confused.

  • @Videogamemasterz It's much easier with tool assistance.

  • @Cpadolf0 is it easy to use tool assistance?

  • @Videogamemasterz It's probably a bit tricky to get the hang of at first, but still I don't think simply using it should be very hard (using it to complete complex games as fast as you can though takes a huge amount of work).

  • @Cpadolf0 Really? So, do u think i would be able to get the hang of tool assistance

    (even though i can't)?

  • @Videogamemasterz Maybe, I don't know really. You have to try to know.

  • @Cpadolf0 In theory... considering the complexity of the tools used in the more high-profile runs, it might be even harder.

  • That's an impressive optimization guide you wrote! Awesome:)

  • how u do that shit of speed i play the game i run not fast like u man..i need help in 8:03 that fucking part in fucking hard to cross help me out. pass me that speed so i can pass that shit of 8:03.

  • Hmm... every time I armpump as hard as I can on a slope on my Wii, I fall off of it, while you armpump 30 times per second and you don't fall of the slope. I just don't fucking get it.

  • @PrimedMetroid Because he's recording the button-presses on a frame-by-frame basis, allowing him to do that at half the frame-rate. He then just plays back the button-presses in real-time to make the video.

  • @Dant2142 oh, thanks :D question already answered

  • That's freaky fast. Do you know how many times I've tried to beat the door at 6:56?

  • LOL, us normal humans need to do this frame by frame, but Samus can do this real-time with her eyes closed I bet :-D

  • So can Hotarubi (a.k.a yayu50) :D

  • lol 3:50

    space colony: BOOM!!!!!

samus: lol i didnt know that the space colony was a power bomb

  • i have a question about something that i can't figure out. i understand that you are playing frame by frame, but how do you play when samus is out of frame such as at 8:05?

  • First I have RAM addresses that tell me which exact position I have, then of course I know how the part looks from having seen it before, so I have a good understanding of what is where. After that it's just trial and error.

  • oh nice can u put a sort kind of vid on how to make an tas or maybe only the basics?

  • this game has the most entertaining TASs of all. this speed run is phenomenal.

  • Jeez. You are ridiculously good. How long did it take you to get this good?

  • dang, i haven't even gotten 100% yet.

  • You are a FREAK! this is impossebil

    Nice Try Boy!

  • The meaning of tool assisted speedrun is that he uses glitches, Frame Advance, and more to get the job done in the shortest amount of time possible...He does a great job of it, but it's not your traditional speed run. These are built for challenge and entertainment. The TAS community is all about breaking each other's records. I want a 100% run in 5 minutes. =D

  • Well glitches really has nothing to do about it, we use as many time saving glitches as we can, but so does the normal speedrun community (usually).

  • Other than that you are pretty much right :)

  • Well, aside from the glitches, I meant. Although you're never gonna see someone go about using the XRay wall jump trick to enter Tourian early in a traditional speedrun. =P Still, this 100%er showed me a lot of cool tricks that I forgot. I don't know where to get Frame Advance anyway, Google seems to be failing lately. So the things I do I have to do in real time, so it's not always perfect. My latest video shows that.

  • I know its a speed run but its still FCKing awesome!

  • your wall jumps are better than mine. props

  • No wonder!! It's TA-made!!!!

  • Wow, I laughed my ass off when you jumped out of the chozo battle room before the door managed to close. x3

  • This is what Samus would be like in real life.

  • lol. it looks like he has 3 arms

  • holy crap.. your a PRO

  • There is a possibility of him sucking at this game, visit TASVideos for more information.

  • While no one can physically be this good without tool assistance, I definitely don't suck at the game :)

My record is only about 4 ingame minutes short of the official world record held by hotarubi ( yayu50 here on youtube).

  • Just with my attempts at Tas, it is quite difficult to get to such a perfect level any way. I'm still trying to get the fastest time possible on a Metroid 2 Tas.

  • A TAS of metroid 2. Now that i'd like to see.

  • ok lets do the math, the Item music is 7sec. 14 Energy Tanks = 98 sec (1:38) 4 Reserve Tanks = 28 sec (0:28) 230 Missiles =? 322 sec (5:22) 50 Super Missiles = 70 sec (1:10) 50 Power Bombs = 70 sec (1:10) 5 Beam Upgrades = 35 sec (0:35) 3 Boot Upgrades = 21 sec (0:21) 2 Suits = 14 sec (0:14) 4 Misc = 28 sec (0:28) X-ray / Grapple = 14 sec (0:14) Grand total of --- 700 sec (11:40) that's a lot of time really
  • Impressive, you know the amount of time for all the items. Super Metroid rocked!

  • I think that's right, I timed how long it takes from when you get the item to when you can move again, and if I remember right, that's all the items, if I missed something I'll have to add that in.

  • haha torizo wakes up and wonders where the fuck its bombs went

  • someone should calculate how much of the video is the "you got an item" metroid song. it'd probably be a pretty high percentage as fast as this is :)

  • Comment removed

  • this is absolutely breath taking to watch. I understand it's a TAS but still, great fucking work man. so much props, ty very much for the entertainment and hardwork.

  • I like it, as peops really put time into this, and thats what a real "nerd" is made off.

    Good job, hope for more.

  • No, it is not a real speedrun, it is a tool assisted speedrun, which is what I wrote, and which is what it should be compared to.

  • I think this run is harder than normal speedrun in 1:00

  • Thank god this stuff is gay. I sleep with other guys and I thought I might be gay. But now I see that being gay means doing tool-assisted speed runs of Super Metroid. My pastor will be so relieved.

  • this is the only game, on my gaming career, that I gave up on. I burned the game and my damn hand while doing so. It was just too hard, I was like in fifth of fourth grade...and I was so damn pissed that I couldn't pass it.

  • How do you do that weird, backward jump when you take damage? I can't figure it out. D:

  • this is hacked

  • No, it is not.

  • ok! thanks you!!! =) you're my idol xD

  • how do you go out of this room? 6:48 please! tell me!! thanks you

  • You just have to be fast enough. Tool assistance is necessary, as everything has to be pixel perfect, and you have to press L at a rate of 30 times per second (every time you do you get moved forward a pixel, and every time you release you also get moved forward a pixel).

  • ....wow

  • fuck you its is imposible! 8:04

  • No, apparently it isn't...

  • no its a tas so you can do things that arent really allowed in normal game play. you actually can do it in legit came play if you do a mockball jump in from the room before onto the platform
