I always thought Iroh's character didn't seem solid. He was completely hypocritical in many cases and the writers didn't really create a good character definition for him. Don't get me wrong I love this show but it's just something I noticed...

@nilepwnsu Iroh's character is complex, that's the thing. He might seem hypocritical, but there are reasons for that. He was never committed to the idea of the Fire Nation ruling the world, evidenced by his membership in the White Lotus. Then, his son died at the Siege of Ba Sing Se and it completely tore Iroh down. When Zuko was banished, Iroh began to take care of him as if Zuko were his son, which changed his view on life even more. A lot of Iroh's character is only hinted at.

Third, I am amazed. This show is stunning. The artwork was stunning and consistent; it began beautifully and ended beautifully. The storyline was amazing, and though the show included some "impossible" elements, it still felt real. The depth and variety of the characters is amazing.

This is what happens when the best of writing and the best of art come together. This is REAL, in a sense that if it were not a cartoon, it would not seem so out of place (if that makes sense). (see next comment)

Where do I begin?

First, this episode: I think this was perhaps the first time a cartoon made me honestly cry for characters that did not exist... it was because of this episode that I found out who Mako was.

Second, I was amazed at the dedication this whole team must have had; Iroh changed voice actors, and I did not even realize it. They must just be THAT good. <3 One of the hardest things for a fan to go through is changes in the cast or show artwork... which leads me to my next point.

Iroh's son Lu-Ten was killed during the 100 Day Siege of Ba Sing Sei.

After that Iroh was forever changed. However Zuko helped to fill that void of losing a son <3 :)
