Start the chant for a release of this album, and all of the following, on iTunes. "Best of" collections; meh -- I've destroyed by overuse two or three original copies of Icehouse/Flowers and Man of Colours; on ... cassette.. Dun make me trawl Dixon's for a CD copy of both :)
i was only 11 when this song was released but i loved my music even back then...80's music just hads that je ne sais qois and i have many awesome memories of this time of endless summer days and playing spin the bottle down at Balmoral Beach and having to kiss Simone Lewis with her awful smokers breath when i really wanted to kiss Abigail Duroe haha.Icehouse was awesome too...
Just before I came to live in the US I very carefully bought and carried in a dozen of these albums for my American friends, just to find out Tower records had released it....At half the price I paid in Oz
I remember buying the album named Icehouse which had this song on it. I was a sophomore in high school in 1980 when it was released. IIRC, it was the first album that Icehouse released in the States and I immediately loved it. So many good songs on that album.
nzoz, thanks for posting all this great music. As I've noted many times before, I think I'm an Aussie who happened to be born and raised in the US.
@ggh7664 lol, thanx for the comment and yes, i do remember you saying that 'aussie born/raised in us' before... i'll try and upload this clip again, this time with better sound quality. all the best!
@ggh7664 I'm not sure in the US but I bought this album in around 1980 and the band was called 'The Flowers". They later change their name to "try and make it in the states" to Icehouse. Thank god that great acts like ACDC and INXS and a few other bands stuck to their guns and kept their name.i can't believe that to "make it in the states' you had to change your name....how shallow
Agreed about the name change. I was unaware they had changed their name until after the release of their Measure for Measure album. It really is a shame, but I think the name change was because there was already a punk band out of Scotland called The Flowers that already had hit the US market. Icehouse couldn't legally call itself The Flowers.
yeah agree with my comments..they were an exciting part of the Australian music scene of 1980 It was awesome..you had the enz, chisel, flowers, aussie crawl then underneath, the reels, dugites, inxs, sports.. i remember the 10 inch single of i cant help myself single..dancing at disco's to that song..for me it started to unravel when they changed their name to icehouse and davies removed the focus of the band onto himself and become "pop" fodder..cool song again excellent work NZOZ
The 1st album was their best,It seemed to have an ancient rock fantasy theme to the whole album. After that, their music took a different direction towards mainstream pop, which i didnt like.
Wow - The Flowers! The early days of Iva.D. This is a great song song from their first (and only pre Icehouse?!) album back in 1980! It was one of my first albums from when I was a lad, and included Walls, Sister, and Can't Help Myself (best song of 1980 imo).
I live in the US now and don't hear a lot of the "glory days" of Oz/NZ music.
OK, I just aged big time. LOL Thanks for posting this. The only copy I have of this song is on a cassette I used to record off the radio and the sound is about gone. Thanks for the memories.
Iva's vocal in this is different - not by much, but still -- than in the "American" version I know so well, which is readily available on YT. This looks like a lip-synch version also, but I like the video better. Saw Icehouse in Seattle in '87, thankfully...thanks for posting!
One great piece of music. I remmeber seeing this video, billed as Ice House, on public t.v. in Broomfield Colorado in the early 80s and really loving it then. Great, great, tune!
We've got the 'American version' over here in Australia and it was used to promote the single at some stage. I don't know how 'American' the American version is - it could have been made in Oz.
I don't have the American version, however I do have the 'Love In Motion' video which is exactly the same video. Side note: I think the American video was in fact an alternative video made in Australia for overseas release.

I would love to see Icehouse play live, but I don't think Salt Lake is a part of their plans. It never was in the past either. My loss.

@ggh7664 then you should go back home to aus:)

"Primitive Man" (2nd lp) was just as good imo - "Hey Little Girl" / "Great Southern Land" / "Street Cafe" were standout tracks.

I agree, There were some great punk overtones here.

This music got me through adolescence and my army enlistment. Iva Davies and crew.
Reminds me of driving around on friday nights in the horse truck, dating Lori, Steph, et al.
Man, what a trip.
I remember thinking how great this band was, and i still do 30 years later. Nice to know my tastes in music were good back then.
Thanks for posting nzoz!
