  • Amen and Amen once more

  • While I don't listen to much Hip Hop (because I'm old), I've never understood why Hip Hop stars always have to answer for this or that, while other forms of music continue along their merry way, while being just as socially objectionable (if not more) than Hip Hop ever is. Anyone who thinks Nelly is a negative role model needs to go read "Hammer of the Gods" - or just go see this year's Alice Cooper tour.

  • I like how the cure for hip-hops ills resembles responsible care of an STD.

  • when i heard the intro song i wanted to scream out SLAUGHTERHOUSE ...those who listen to bad meets evil will know. ha!

  • Just a minor correction that doesn't take from the intention of the commentary. Penicillin is for bacterial infections. Penicillin cannot treat viruses because viruses are not living organisms.

  • You inspire me a bit too much sometimes, hard to take it all in. But fuck, well done. I think you've helped a lot of people through a lot of moral, emotional and maybe even psychological problems, and I hope you continue to do so, in your personal life, if not through media as well.

  • love this guy

  • hmmmm, makes me wanna reevaluate why I get eczema outbreaks when pulled between my team & bosses at work.

    Stupid doctors....

  • yeah you right 200%

  • wow, maybe you should've been in the hip hop discussions, because you make valid points

  • Just a word from the Simile Police: Penicillin (and other antibiotics like it) treats bacterial or microbial infections, not viral infections. Until the relatively recent advent of anti-virals (like the anti-retrovirals that have worked wonders in managing, but not eliminating HIV), we had few ways to deal with viruses except to prevent them with vaccines. Thanks for the great videos.

  • I agree with you whole heartedly. We dont have conversations that lead anywhere because lets face it, if a rapper is making money doing what hes doing, his responsiblity is to whom writes the checks PERIOD. People sell out for the mighty dollar all day everyday, including the chick getting her ass swiped with a credit card.

  • WORD!

  • I really appreciate your videos man , Do you spit? if so pls let me know.. you seem like someone who could drop some Science like Joey Diaz lol , stay up.

  • subscribed!

  • You should have been there!

  • AWWWWWWWW MAN!! ILL DOC IS THE MAN WHEN IT COMES TO THESE DOCTRINES ABOUT HIP HOP AND THE METAPHORS. I'M SO INFLUENCED!!

  • I finally disagree with you about something: penicillin will do fuck all for a virus. :-)

  • yeah..totally subscribing to this guy..

  • Man if a bitch chose to be naked in a video that's her decicion. Hip hopers don't dreat or display women in an inferior way; women CHOSE to be treated like that so why da fuck do they blame the guys whenever a bitch is inapropiate!!!! I'm on Nelys side

  • You def speak the truth in a poetic type of way. Just kidding Russel Simmons. but hip hop to me is so hard to comprehend because of exactly what you brought up, everyone has their opinion and sticks to their guns but it usually gets no where.

  • You fuckin rule dude, look me up.

  • Speak on it. Let's connect the dots, word up..

  • big ups to this brotha

  • i'm back but my name is now "lil maximus" so i'm automatically a street thug, which is a very good thing! hooray for me. wait, my name is now "lil jeezorama nelly"

am i still a hoodlum? let's pray, shall we?

  • @MaximusRelaximus rap? more like CRAP, amirite!? it's not even music! Get these kids off my lawn!!!111!

  • @illdoc1 lol, yeah, crazy whippersnappers! my ball now! nah, i actually like some of it albeit mostly old-school stuff like ice cube, dre, etc, & lil (everybody's lil) wayne is at least pretty original in style. i just don't get the names. ("lil scrappy" is one of my favorites)

  • @MaximusRelaximus technically Nelly's is a childhood nickname since his actual first name is Cornell..doesnt take away how cheesy it is but at least it has some sort of significance to his life..no use in being Nelly your whole life but being Mc Gangster because the name Nelly doesnt sound right lol he almost gets a few points for being brave enough to use the name. still a bad name lol

  • @MaximusRelaximus Yeah. If it was anymore childish, stupid, stale, and self-indulgent, it would be 80's and 90's rock... lol

  • @bigge525 meh, "80's rock" is almost an oxymoron, except for Guns n Roses. 90s rock was awesome, albeit maybe self-absorbed (as most good music is, almost necessarily), but anything but stupid and stale. Everything is derivative of something to some degree, but the stuff from the 90s was far less so than the shit from the 80s, or--god forbid--the 2000s (and now the 2010s)

  • @MaximusRelaximus First of all, how is NELLY, a Hip Hop Artist?!

  • @MaximusRelaximus Shut the Fuck Up.

  • If i ever win the lottery, can I buy you a TV show?

  • genius!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Speaking so much truth, respect!

  • This is sick. I had quit youtube for a while because everything was so damn stupid...but now I'm on here just to watch your vids!!

I love it. Keep spitting truth.

  • damn this dude...make more hip hop vids you deep

  • grooooow up

  • Nelly - Tip Drill lol

  • I'm allergic to penicillin. But I believe that's beside the point. Good points.... Yeah, I'm gonna shut up now, cuz I used the word point two, no three times now...

  • hahaha!

  • The title of this alone was awesome, but good points too! I reckon it all fits in with another big hip-hop debate: "I'm rapping about this because this shit happens" vs "if you rap about this all the time it makes this shit more likely to happen". Otherwise known as RAPPERS GIVE OUR CHILDREN CRACK.

  • good stuff.

  • He hit it right on the head.....

  • I'm thinkin that a weekly dose of illdoc could very well be the panacea, the loticillin if you will, that Hip-Hop so desperately needs, and stuff.

  • (SG)

    "and stuff"

You caught me off gaurd with that 1, i expected a big finish but all in all i agree with you

p.s (SG= slight grin as i don't really laugh out loud that much)

  • Thank you for being an intelligent and respectful voice in this vastly uneducated culture.

  • "Vastly Uneducated culture"???

my geuss is u only embrace in the culture through watching television

Its either actualy live the culture to experiance our true intelligence

or go read a damn book

  • good point

  • Very well spoken and eloquent.

    you should have a show...

    oh wait..

  • I love how you speak. You use complex words and sentences that make sence but you make it flow... It's like you don't need to try...

  • @jpicker13

    lol its called editiing

  • yur smardt

  • BRILLIANT! The same thing can be said about Luke Skyywalker & the 2 Live Crew. Luke literally cornered the market let alone revolutionized sex in Hip-Hop/Rap & made it what it is today. He did it as a small time business man; now every major record label follows the same practice. It's not morally right what he did or what Nelly does today! We must teach our kids what they see on TV isn't always truthful or respectful. Give them a foundation that allows them to make their own educated decisions.

  • Excellent. And, yes, the debate is difficult when each side is so invested in their position the discussion never moves past making the argument. But to belabour (or distort!) your metaphor a bit further, both penicillan and lotion have to be used by an individual. So while it is important to understand the larger societal context of why we do the things we do, doesn't societal change start with individuals taking responsibility; leading by example? Nelly just may not be the one to lead.

  • Thanks you Jay!!

When I talk about personal responsibility AND the greater cultural context within which we all live, peole look at me like I'm crazy.. because the mainstream culture tends to paint people in extremes and in "either/or" dichotomies that serve only to divide people.

How about a third path? A thought-full, holistic way of looking at problems and their solutions?

  • I hope you get to moderate the next panel discussion. It would probably end in fisticuffs or someone tipping over a pitcher of water and bolting for the nearest exit ala Dave Chappelle as the black president but at the very least no one would get to slyly evade the question.

  • penicillin doesnt kill viruses, its an antibiotic, not an antiviral! hah, just playin. keep up the great work.

youre both rational and articulate. 2 things that are nearly impossible to find in internet personalities.

  • Brilliant!

  • I like ur videos because ur views and ur points can be applied to any topic. For example the same examples and arguments can be applied to any other controversial "hot" topic. I like how u compared both sides as puzzle pieces each containing truth.

    Ur very eloquent. 5 stars!

  • The only way to make Hip Hop change is to stop buying the music and stop watching the videos.

  • Ditto but Stanley Crouch is right. Too many people blame society for their wrongdoing. But all facets of America and the other free world countries are accepting loose behavior while others are getting paid for marketing it. If its a hip hop artist, video director, filmmaker or photographhers in a magazine people are getting paid for pushing sex, violence or dark humor.

  • Water chesnuts are for the cruch; I hate them too!

  • Nelly don t be an a hole! Just because you can do something, dose NOT mean it is a Great idea, and sliding a card down some strippers butt crack, is only a good idea, when the kids you p eddled this crap to are not participating in buying your junk.

  • Basically it is supply and demand, and it is unfortunately the only one thing both sides can agree upon. IF consumers would make better choices and Stop buying the filth and supplies stop. Corporations would stop peddling this caustic trash to world. But seeing that rap is still profitable; Corporations will then look to Artist such as kid N play,or Will smith who almost never curse and defiantly don t promote violence. Corporations understand profits, and profits only. Moral is dont buy junk

  • You are my new favorite YouTuber!

  • i really dont understand why people get so offended by the immediate, to the point, strong stance you take on every video voicing your opinion and how you saw each situation. some people commenting immediatly take it as a know it all approach. well your just voicing your goddamn opinion. where in the video did it say "and if u dont agree with me your a complete dickhead" if you disagree- video response button is like right there dickhead. keep up the vids man

  • to sum my diatribe up.

You've got to understand, and i'm sure you do. When You create a video .. especially when you're actually a radio personality or whatever you are. You actually have people listening.

when you sit comfrotably in the confides of your home and dissect the discussion with ''would've should've'' suggestions you're making it appear as if they didn't do an adequate enough job or if it wasn't to your standards.

and it's Michael Dyson not Eric Dyson.

  • It's Michael Eric Dyson..

I don't think there's anything wrong with me dissecting their performance, just like there's nothing wrong with you dissecting my performance. I chose to offer my opinion for public consumption so I've gotta be willing to take whatever response it generates.. as long as it's a genuine response to what I said and not some empty personal attack, I always respect it. I treat Nelly and Stanley Crouch with the same rules I apply to myself.

  • mr 92503 lost.

  • I think mr92503 is just saying that by using words like "should", ur imposing ur beliefs on other people. and by that i mean, ur pretty much saying "why can't u do what i say. it's right". and of course, i do very much agree with ur opinion on this issue, but telling people wut u think they should do is not the best way to lead into constructive arguments and discussion.

  • look...

Your a smart guy and i see no point in telling you to "shut the fuck up."

This man did a very good job at tackling the issue and he confided his opinion very well. He look at the situation from both sides of the argument, and he broke it down to the point that it made alot of sense.

And maybe you will see that one day, becouse i'v read all your comments and i dont see what your really disputing over. whether its if he sounds like sandler or if we all make mistakes.

    Get over it

    Get over it

  • my point being.

why would you create a video to spark conversation on the subject.

did you think you were shedding light on it.. did you think people saw it and were confused by it? and you're bringing hip hop to the light?

  • upon going over the comments.

maybe I didn't properly describe what you were doing in the video.

just the fact you picked apart their answers was stupid. and anyone who needed to watch this video to understand that that debate didn't accomplish shit for either sides due to everybody inflicting their personal beliefs as opposed to the bigger pictures is stupid.

  • I wasted too much energy on this video already.

I'd like to think you had the for-sight to know that some people were going to agree with you because due to the smoke and mirrors this video and your others possess.

But you also knew you'd have people stumble on them who knew you were transparent. If I haven't made it clear why yet. I don't know what more I can say.

  • doc, you are a smart guy makin good points, but it often appears that you speak from a "mr knowitall" perspective...

you makin fun of nelly in this video the way u comment his statements, dont you? i think its your tone and the look in your eyes that people dont like.

    greetings from germany

  • Within the first 30 seconds of this clip, his statement totally shut down everything he's ever said.

  • Care to explain how?

  • It doesn't require an explanation if you just listen to what you said from a third person perspective, and then take that same perspective and apply it to previous videos you've made.

I can explain in further detail if you'd like, sir.

  • yes please

  • could you please explain that to me cause i dont see that?

  • I'd of like to see how great of a job you would've done on that panel. Matter of fact.. what'd be even more entertaining would be Nelly nitpicking the answers you would've gave.

now that'd be the video of the week on YouTube.

this is why I hate hip hop sometimes.. these fag ass hip hop ''elitist'' who always say.. ''he's cool but when he rocked the left side I would've rocked the right instead"

stop being a critic when you're not even of any validy to the point you're trying to argue.

  • Damn, Murphy lee u left like 10 messages on this video. This illdoc guy does a great job in analyzing the clip. I was actually thinking along the same lines. You want to root for Nelly but he was just using the wrong examples.

  • well due to the 500 character limit.

It's hard to make a valid point and give examples without looking like a fuck-boy, crazed youtube user.

    I know. I apologize.

but I felt it was necessary.

Does he do a ''good job analyzing the clip"? yes. HE DOES.

BUT WHO CARES. It's a rhetoric and recycled topic.

''He didn't do this right, he said this but should've said this, wahwahwah wah.. boo fuckin hoo... "

  • It's just don't try and wax ''philosophic'' on this recycled topic. It's almost obnoxious.

Like, was this video supposed to ''open eyes'' to a greater truth or something.

    NOOOOOO

old people will never like HIP HOP. And young people will never convince them it's worthy of liking.

It's not a matter of who's got the stronger argument. It's simply a generation gap. Same deal with life in general. Old People just don't agree with the younger generations way of life.

  • I think Nelly did quite an impressive job. For you to slander him or anyone else on that panel given the circumstances they were in is un-fair.

as i'm going through the comments on this page I'm tickled.

I can't believe how many people are easily fooled into other peoples idealogy based solely on a few big words and some pictures.

  • I didn't say Nelly did a bad job, and I don't think anything in that video even approaches the category of "slander".. I said that Nelly, and each panelist, was smart and had valid points, but were unable to communicate effectively about their differing perspectives, and as someone who loves hip-hop that was frustrating to watch. That's far from slander, IMO.

  • while I merit you for making this video you aren't ''kickin knowledge''

nitpicking the answers the people on the panel, anybody can do. You know how hard it was for T.I. and Nelly.

when you're on live television, and the odds are against you.. you're not going to give the ''correct'' answer everytime. There was tons of pressure on them brothas.

  • dogg you sound like Adam Sandler.

So I suppose you would've done a better job?... Everybody who's nobody is always a critic.

while it was unfortunate some valid points didn't get across. People are only human.. no one person's going to be able to be ''super hip hop super-spokesman". These people are human.

while it'd be nice to be able to have that .. it's just not humanly possibly.

Dr. Michael Dyson is the closest we're going to get to what you're asking for.

  • I never said I'd do a better job, I have been in the media a long time and know how hard it can be to work effectively in that format.. I've discussed that in other videos, actually.

We actually agree on pretty much every issue you have brought up.. the things you are disagreeing with are mostly assumptions that you've projected onto me, not things I actually said.

  • Very impressive man. Your grasp of hip hop and the broader culture is on point. I hope you get more media attention. Funny, too. Keep up the good work! Peace.

  • "It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again".

  • damn jay. droppin some knowledge. if u get the chance, check out my blog: hiphoponmymind (dot) blogspot (dot) com. i am inspired by journalist like u. that is y i started this blog and y i am the president of the hip hop culture club at my school. check out my videos too if u can.

  • Dr. Jay is in the house!

Write me some hip hop scrip, mayne!
