I have to agree that the Japanese did wonders for Taiwan. Partly to prove to the west, that they could colonize, partly to empower and feed the native islands, and also the public schooling was great. Secondary education was limited to nationals of Japan from the native islands at first however. Establishing railroads, highways, banking system, etc.
Rice and sugar from Taiwan was used for the native islands, as well as Taiwanese and aborigines being used to fight in the War efforts.

I noticed how Taiwanese always imply they are better than the "Chinese", because the mainlanders are "stupid communist".
Yes, I think some Taiwanese girls tend to be prettier than average mainland girls at times - maybe having a smaller gene pool usually achieves better looking people or maybe it's partly to do with better grooming and living in a better place. And they always tell me how they want to considered Taiwanese, and not Chinese. That they are more like the Japanese.

Yes, the Okinawans, the Ainu, etc, are all considered "Japanese". even those of non Japanese descent who become naturalized citizens of Japan, are considered "Japanese", of course after taking on a Japanese name.
Back then, the Imperial Japanese government encouraged and proclaimed that the Okinawan language was a dialect of Japanese, as any other spoken native language within the empire.

Korea and Japan, officially became ONE nation on 1910, as Imperial Japan, Korean Royalty were admitted into the Japanese Imperial Family, and they intermarried (to make sure that Korea would never have a King again).
It doesn't mean that Korea was SPECIAL in any way. Taiwanese are the only people who, after being subjugated by Japan, are so proud of it, and actually refer the action as having been "Colonized", or that it was a colony.

Since the Ryukyu Islands extend close to Taiwan, it would be very strategic for Japan to claim Taiwan as part of Japan. Did you know, the inhabitants of the Ryukyu Islands (Okinawans) aren't considered truly Japanese by the residents of Japan proper? Okinawans speak multiple dialects which differ from native Japanese.

From a historical standpoint relying on both Japanese and Korean chronicles - the entire Japanese imperial line has its roots from Korea. In contrast Korean culture was deeply rooted into the Japanese ruling class since most of them came from Paekche(Kudara), Koguryo (Korai) during its formative years. Paekche royals, descended from Puyeo (who were ancestors to Koguro Royals) formed the Yamato state and rewrote its history as a way of grandstanding against their rivals back on the peninsula.

No need to go into why that might have been, however present day Taiwanese adoration towards Japan despite all her crimes against Taiwan is a tell sign that majority of Taiwanese would rather be Japanese and part of the Japanese Empire.
