GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "My mother, the late Ruth May got hooked on ATWT while she was on maternity leave from Kroger's in WInchester, Kentucky in 1956. I was born two months after the soap premiered. In the 70's I got my parents tickets to see EILEEN FULTON when she came to Orlando with her nightclub act. After her show, Miss Fulton took tme to greet each and every guest in the audience."
GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "My mother - the late Ruth May - never missed an episode of ATWT. She got hooked in 1956 while she was awaiting my debut into the world when my dad bought her a 20-inch Motorola TV set while she was on maternity leave from Kroger's in Winchester, Kentucky."
Charles Paul, the organist for the show, wrote the theme. Usually, someone like Dan McCullough would deliver this opening- "And now, for the next thirty minutes...'AS THE WORLD TURNS'.".
Growing up with poor TV reception there was so much snow on our CBS affiliate, I never knew the logo had partly cloudy and clear in the background(lol) Thanks for the memories!!
I was three years old when it began in 1956. a few years later I'd hear my mom and aunt talking about what an awful person that john dixon was. so I'd watch just to see how awful he was. over the years he went from a black knight to a gray knight even flashes of shinning knight on occasion. he became the central charecter of the show over time. when he left, the show nosedived and became unintresting. my mom said it went downhill after penny left too.
I wish CBS would go on ahead and air the first episode of As the World Turns on youtube. It would be a treat for the whole world. Well, I hope the final episode of As the World Turns is worthy. Doug Marland's death proved to be a fatal blow to the show.
Yup, when they aired the 50th anniversary, I was hoping for at least a color version of the original logo with the organ accompainment, but all we got was 18 seconds of syntehsizer.
@east215 I believe that "As The World Turns" became the first CBS soap to be colorcast (I believe it was around the very end of 1965 or the very early part of 1966), and the opening was re-shot in color.
Hearing this makes me even more sad that we are losing ATWT. And whether it sounds like a hockey game or a gospel song, it is in my opinion, the best and the prettiest of all the ATWT themes.
The Shows Produced Today Don't Have Half The Imagination That The Old TV Series Had. . . This Is A Fine Example How Producers Created A Theme Song And Presentation To Open A Show Years Ago Which They Rarely Do Well Today, If At All.

Interesting that this particular opening did not have an announcer.

They should have used this opening every day until the show ended.
