I don't get these racial debates. Skin color is defined by how much sun our skin-cells need to absorb. It's an arbitrary concept which is irrelevant in neurological potency. I know there's plenty of idiots out there who claims there's more to it. But alas: Here stands Chuck Berry, a man who was far more talented than, say... Elvis Presley. Coincidence? Yes. That's my point.
You know, I feel like saying something to prh14thsps, but, really, how do you respond to something like that. I just know I don't really want to "leave the music" to the ultra conservatives. thank you chuck if there was no you..there would be no Lennon or Keithy but if there was no robert johnson or charlie christian there would be no chuck!...
Lets come to the conclusion that Elvis and Chuck Berry are some of the best rock and roll players that helped shape music of the decades after them. No need to argue, they are both awesome!
Chuck Berry's Maybelline actually came out before any of elvis's music did, due to racism it never got popular as Elvis, if that werent the case im certain Chuck would be recognized as of rock'n'roll. Chuck Berry rules!
People stop bitchin around. There are great rap songs. There is great rocknroll music, there is brilliant techno music, awesome house. Whatever. This is a Chuck Berry song and he rocks.
you cant call this blues or soul or r and b and cant really call it rock complete originality man this dude was a visionary something like the pyramids in egypt no ones really sure where it came from
Chuck Berry at his finest. He was no wizard at tone, he sounds rather thin and barely undre control, but his acrobatic riffing was the dominant influence of rock guitar for years. A master showman he dominated audiences with his flash and presence. If you listened to Chuck and didn't have a great time there must have been somthin' wrong with you. Songs about school, dancin', fast cars and being in love. Everthing that mattered to young people then, or now.
I loved this record because it was Chuck's first record after two year in a federal prison on a trumped up Mann Act violation better known as the "white slave Act" it shows Chuck could not be stopped he went right back to his music he is the whole package and always will be vaya con Dios Chuck
@DocHollidayB70 Elvis was not known as a song writer anyone who knows music knows that, but he was one hell of a singer and performer, and unlike a lot of singers that pretended to play guitar he really could. So everyone thats hatin on him go jump in a effin lake!
@RaEkElRyn66 What I did was compare these two great performers. And nothing in what I wrote could make anyone think I hate Elvis. He gave meaning to my teenage years, brought happiness to me and my friends, male and female alike. But I think if you consider of calling somebody the king of r 'n' r it should be Chuck Berry. After Chuck it's Bill Haley to earn the crown, with Elvis a good third. In my own discotheque I have 1350 Elvis titles. You get my drift? Now tell if I must jump in a lake.
@robbieray1961 ELVIS STOL;E EVER MOVE HE HAD AND SONGS TO..ELVIS WISH HE WAS AS GOOD AS CHUCK.ARE LITTLE RICHARDARE ANY OF THE BLACK SINGERS DURNING THE ROCK N ROLL ERA.ELVIS WAS NOTHING BUT A RACIST DRUG ADDICT AND HE DIED LIKE ONE...
@dimpsey3 but he still became more famous and had a hell of a lot more money and fans then who you named... If i recall, Elvis was named the KING... not chuck berry or little richard... well Little Richard i think was known as a queen though.
@xXODDSHOTXx Elvis stole all of his moves and songs from the black singers of his era..so ur telling me that elvis can play gutair and sing better rock and roll the chuck berry? lol elvis is only the king of hambugers and drugs he was nothing but a fat talentless drug addicted whole stole everything he had from other black artis..elvis was named the king by white people only and everyone knows white ppl have no soul in there music.they cant dance and only a handful can sing..
@dimpsey3 and you are saying Elvis is the racist one??? Chuck Berry, Little Richard were great artists. So was Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis... black or white it doesn't matter. Talent is talent. But if you are claiming that Chuck Berry and Little Richard didn't use or abuse drugs and that it was solely then you need to wake up and shake the stupidity out of your head. Next you're going to say Jimmy Hendrix was always sober and just died of natural causes.
@dimpsey3 and you are saying Elvis is the racist one??? Chuck Berry, Little Richard were great artists. So was Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis... black or white it doesn't matter. Talent is talent. @dimpsey3 actually there is a difference in stealing and being inspired. People who want to act like they know alot about music always say the same thing, elvis stole from black musicians. guess they feel smart. let me say that that is not true, he was inspired. It is commendable that you idiots wish to attribute all the great things in america like peanut butter and rok and roll to the black community but it's just false. the blacks have not given us anything yet but a hard time.
@BlacknesUnforgivable I have a degree in history and psychology first of all. second, hw many black classial musicians do you know of? 0. How can you stupid niggers pretend that you gave us so much when all you even came close to giving us is stupid art with black and yellow on it and peanut butter. Music wise, just look around you in todays world and you wana tell me that rock and roll is the product of a black man? ok, lets say it is... it take white people to make it into somethng more.
@jason13204 Hahahah what does a supposed degree in history and psychology have to do with anything , peckerwood? What does classical have to do with anything, cracker? I stated a pure FACT. The overwhelming majority of rock n roll pioneers are/were BLACK.Rocn n roll was played in the black community way before the white community. The song thats officially considered the first rock song is by a black man (ike turner)
@BlacknesUnforgivable beatles, elvis, elton john, the list goes on and on. yes chuch berry was the first rock and roller... what about it? doesnt mean niggers are special.... boy, you niggers really are stupid. yes its a fact, first rock n roller was black.. good job, you guys did something right. but its hard to consider chuck berry a nigger. black became niggers when they began acting like we (the white community) owe them something. so go smoke a blunt and act like you know something
@jason13204 both of you sound like idiots, but more jason13204, how dare you call him a nigger, black people did create rock n roll and we practically thank them for inspiration on all white musicians of the past 50 years, but in todays popular black music, its absolute complete shit, t pain and lil wayne are fucking jokes with no more talent than the normal black man who just got lucky.
@x3rrrMc the new rap industry has absolutely mind fucked kids into thinking that its cool do act like a complete faggot. If i myself was black i would be embarrased about todays music and wish that black music would have as much passion and talent as it use to
@jason13204 Who propped up the beatles, elvis, and that faggot elton john? Oh thats right, white people Your god elvis copied from numerous of black artist ...jackie wilson being one of them
@jason13204 Also , thats interesting that its hard to consider Chuck a nigger. After all , im sure he was called that plenty of times in his days by your people
@BlacknesUnforgivable no. ngigers are the product of blacks being mixed with whites, then thinking that they have the same opportunity for education, learning, and work ethic as white people. my people? so you admit there is a diference in your people and my people.. well, that was easy.

@dimpsey3 Yea When Chuck Was Trying To Make A Name For Himself . Elvis Already Had A Name Himself The King Of Rock & Roll. & Elvis Elvis Did'nt Go To Jail For Some Of The Perverted Things Chuck Berry Did
@robbieray1961 for your information, elvis never wrote a song. He got all the airplay he wanted on tv and radio, and could never do wrong because of the colour of his skin!
@frankcgauvin Get over your racist BS....Elvis was King...but then again so was Chuck Berry....you fucking bean counters just don't get it...music and life isn't about race. Now do us all a favor and go back to Kissing Obama's sorry Marxist ass, and leave the music to us...

@x3rrrMc Actually you are way off, I listen to more rap than anyone but it's the intellectual type of rap where you have to interpret metaphors with better messages than even the great Chuck berry himself, this music is upbeat but rap is way more sophisticated than you ignorant people think, don't go knocking rap if you haven't researched it.
obviously you have heard only songs performed by lil wayne and other idiots. here's a tip: listen to gangstarr, guru and then say some bullshit about rap, cause only a genius could come up with lyrics like Gangstarr has done it.
@matvejs420 ACTUALLY.... I haven't heard any of "lil wayne and other idiots." I only listened to NWA when they were still doin' shit. But I will listen to your 'tip' and seek out this Gangstarr.... 2 'r's.... nice one
@Kan1Mies1234 Why do they have to be rap fans? I'm a "Rap" fan and I listen to this. Get the fuck out you idiot. How about 7 people who don't know shit about music listened to this.
@Kan1Mies1234 your wrong, you don't know the history of Rap/Hiphop, it was created by a younger crowd, because our music (R&B etc) was credited towards the black community, alot of the songs were recreated by whites and they was praised with all the glory, hip hop is a new form of poetry, and r&b. But know you got this gangster rap because they rap about what they know/seen, because of this institutionalized community we live in. But it's still a new form of R&b in a way, thats Y u hear samples
Hearing this song again makes me glad I had a chance to see Chuck play live along with James Brown, Stevie Ray Vaughan and other greats. Thanks for posting this song.
@777RainingBlood man that was a good show,we take 2 vacations at least a year and 1 is always a particular place to go,we just pack the surburban and drive where ever keep up the good work its appreciated
@muhreuh1 Answer: Black people like Chuck Berry. They consider him one of their own, what with the skin color and everything. Also, Muddy Waters encouraged him to abandon his hairdressing career and pursue music instead. What a tragic loss to hair styles.
I forgot all about this song haha. It's funny because Mafia II is based around WWII and post WWII which is 30's/40's, and Mafia II has this on the radio. Haha.
@tennboy789 Well, It didnt play in Mafia 2 until you got the the second half of the game which was set mid 50's. But still. It still wasnt out then, but closer.
I always heard rock songs, and i always played video games, i came here randomly lookin for Chuck songs and found this one that i alredy heard in a game, this makes the song even more awesome to hear.
I am 15 and this is all I listen too. This music made America. The music from m =y generation is HORRID! I think I am one of the few kids my age that can listen to Chucj Berry fo the rest of my life. Thank you Chuck.

@TheQuickdraw94
obviously you have heard only songs performed by lil wayne and other idiots. here's a tip: listen to gangstarr, guru and then say some bullshit about rap, cause only a genius could come up with lyrics like Gangstarr has done it.
matvejs420 4 months ago
@matvejs420 ACTUALLY.... I haven't heard any of "lil wayne and other idiots." I only listened to NWA when they were still doin' shit. But I will listen to your 'tip' and seek out this Gangstarr.... 2 'r's.... nice one

@Kan1Mies1234 Why do they have to be rap fans? I'm a "Rap" fan and I listen to this. Get the fuck out you idiot. How about 7 people who don't know shit about music listened to this.
indio2dr 4 months ago
@Kan1Mies1234 your wrong, you don't know the history of Rap/Hiphop, it was created by a younger crowd, because our music (R&B etc) was credited towards the black community, alot of the songs were recreated by whites and they was praised with all the glory, hip hop is a new form of poetry, and r&b. But know you got this gangster rap because they rap about what they know/seen, because of this institutionalized community we live in. But it's still a new form of R&b in a way, thats Y u hear samples

Question! Do black people like Chuck Berry or did they think he was a sell-out? Rock n'roll vs doowoop, and then later rock n'roll versus soul?
muhreuh1 5 months ago
@muhreuh1 Answer: Black people like Chuck Berry. They consider him one of their own, what with the skin color and everything. Also, Muddy Waters encouraged him to abandon his hairdressing career and pursue music instead. What a tragic loss to hair styles.
