You know that your NEVER suppose to mess around with the baby's because the mom will get mad and bite your finger off I learned the the hard way... your lucky :(

@MarshmallowBunnyLove welll no ones has answer you so ill help you out....That is really a opion question...buht wehn i was doin research on breed gerbils i came across alot of hamster vs Gerbil FAQ...so if you want a hamster, there nocturnal nd can be rude/attitude if wokin in the day if ther not use to it...the solo mamals. and will eat ther babys if you touch them...they excise ALOT. moderate smell..Bite alot....//Gerbils..sleep on and off 24hrs, there well temperd almost never bite.Readpt2

i have a gorgeous blackie gerbit named dobby and a whitie named ivory. they had their first litter a couple months ago..... there was only one baby and it died after 3 days. about a week ago, they had their second litter. there WERE 7 or 8 pups, but a few died and now there are 5. they are ADORABLE and i hope dobby can have more babies before he dies....... he is really old........ 2 and a half years

I used to raise gerbils when I was a teenager. I think they're the cutest at about 2-3 weeks old when they start opening their eyes--sometimes one at a time! My dad used to call them "Peep-Eye." LOL

And boy are they fast at about 4 weeks!

We have 1 gerbil, Chester, and everyone in my family wants to get another gerbil to go with him, but my mom doesn't want them to have babies. (when she was young her gerbils had babies and the dad ate them!!) Is it very common for one of the parents to eat the gerbil babies?

you dont need to have a male and female you can have 2 males or 2 females but if you have 2 males be pepeard for it to hump your hand or echover like 2 of my frends gerbils :)

Hei could someone answer me to this question please! So I have 2 male gerbils and 2 female gerbils in my horde(in the same aquarium) and they were introduced to each other like 2 weeks ago, so is it possible to have 2 breeding females in one aquarium? like does it matter is there are two aeries at the same time? thanks if somone answers :)

seperate them ASAP!!!! this is asking for trouble. the females will fight each other over dominance. If one of them has pups then the other one will pretty likely either steal the pups, or kill them. 2 males and 1 female is NOT to be advised either. I'd seperate them in 2 females and 2 males. Then read up about how you can safely and responsibly breed, and try to make breeding pairs. Hope i was of help..

Maybe some breeds, but I don't think Mongolians. I had a Mongolian gerbil that had babies, she didn't seem distressed at me handling them. When I put them back in the cage, she did a head count and gave them a bath.

ok i have a question i havent cleaned my cage for A week or 2 and then they had babies and im not able to clean it i guess should i take em all out including babies and adults or should i wate till there how old?

wait untill the pups have opened their eyes. that will usually be somewhere between the 12th and 19th day of their life.

3) In the cage is a tube about 1 foot tall that leads to another area. On the day they were born, the mom brought them up to the second area. However, she accidentally, repeatedly, pushed the pups down the tube. Should they be alright? Four days later they seem alright...

4) When I put my hand in the cage, the only two times the mom has bitten me was when I first got her, and the day the babies were born. Since then, she has not. Should it be alright for me to pick them up if I wash first?

3.) In their cage is a tube that goes straight up into another area. The day they were born, the mother brought them up there so the dad could make the nest (they did the same thing today when their nest got ruined). In the process, the mom accidentally pushed some of the pups down the tube (about a foot long, stright drop, to a rounded bottom into the main area) a few times. Should they be okay? Four days later, they are still doing alright.

Oh, and I have a couple questions:

1.) I hadn't cleaned the gerbil's cage for about two weeks when they suddenly had the gerbils. It is starting to smell, and I want to clean the cage, but I am worried about disturbing the habitat. When is it okay to clean the cage?

2.) Some of my gerbils are black or dark in areas. Their mother is brown (dad is yellow/light) so i'm guessing it is okay. Is it?

the gerbils might of had genes it them that produced black babys, and i wouldent clean the cage while the gerbils are still young pups

Thank you so much for all these videos! My two "male" gerbils just gave birth about 4 days ago. Completely unexpected. So now, i'm untrained, and i'm doing my best to make sure they all are raised properly. Your videos are helping a lot in reassuring they are all looking healthy.

i breed about 2 to 3 litters a month. no mom has ever eaten them after i touched them. i know what im doing, and i know my animals ;).
