The best thing would be to call us to discuss details. Some urethanes have higher chemical resistance than others. We could go over some different options and material possibilities.
Making a pattern for the tool is inexpensive and the tool materials are relatively inexpensive. You could CNC a mold or make silicone molds from a hand made, SLA, SLS, or FDM master. There is a wide vareity of urethane casting materials that can be used from rigid to flexible. Industries such as duck decoys, mannaquins, medical training devices, and prototyping have used roto-casting with great success. If you want to make a hollow part without expensive tooling, roto-molding is an option.
The main advantage is low cost tooling. You could make these parts with vacuum forming but you would have a seem subject to failure. You could blow mold them but the tools and equipment are expensive. Roto-molding gives you a one piece part with uniform thickness with the option of a variety of casting materials to use. Prototyping and short run (25-1000) pieces are cost effective.
how does the production time for a tank like that compare to a more traditional method of production? I don't know much about plastic molding. I would assume maybe vacuum molding or something could also be used for producing that part. I guess I'm asking what the benefit is of rotational casting.
excellent. I would like to try some of bjb polyurethane. Extra large capacity roto caster. Send me specifics on your product.
