They're not exactly close to extinction, but in places like Japan and China they are killed quite regularly.

@P2TG: That's all true, but there's another much much bigger threat for them, and that is pollution. Dozens die (especcially the babies) because of contamination with mercury and other toxins. I heard that in front of the coast of America, it's worst. And unfortunately, this far exceeds the impacts of whaling.

I love killer whales, i prefer to call them Orca Whales though, Killer just seems such a harsh name, makes them sound like they kill everything they see which is not true. At the moment i am doing a project about them, and i have learnt so much about them, they are amazing creatures!
