The music with the video makes me feel like I'm a newborn wolf taking in and exploring the beautiful earth for the first time. And it's almost like a metaphor for how at college you're exposed to this abundance of knowledge and you get to expand your perspective. That metaphor could serious, saying that college really does broaden your horizons. Or it could be to mock saying that college can never truly open your mind, comparitively to the incredible experience of coming into existence.

What's less straightforward, and open to suspicions of irony, is the motive behind such a progressively-minded band espousing something that can easily be mistaken for philistinism (that college isn't a requisite in a young man's self-improvement/understanding­).

I would understand if they mean to say that there are other avenues and agents of education and discovery besides a college campus (a message that's fittingly antiquotidian), but why not just be more explicit about it?

Ha, jesus man, Im sorry that Animal Collective didnt explicitly tell you if they think you should discover yourself at college or not. I resent the notion that not attending university is "easily mistaken" as philistinism; that's a sweeping generlization. And who cares if it can be easily mistaken? It's a song, not a discursive essay. Since when has AC been concerned with sending a clear "message"? As Avey Tare once sang, "It's not my words that you should follow it's your insides."

Hey, no harm done. But firstly, they wrote the song in 2004, hardly a time when they were, if at ever, "emblematic" of our generation (and by who's authority? Yours?). And an "irresolute culture" won't be cured through the process of education, if I am to assume that postulation is relevant at all. As someone who is currently in university, I assure you irresolute behavior is alive and well. And what's wrong with being irresolute? Do we need to believe in something Absolute?
