This franchise deserves a good reboot. There is so much good material from the classic radio shows and comic books to start with, and visual effects have progressed alot since 1994. I think if they used less "Dick Tracy" style and go for "The Dark Knight" instead, it would be a hit. It'll happen eventually, but it's a shame no one is working on it right now...
This movie was awesome. Everyone I know who has ever seen it said it was great. The critics are retarded. This movie was fun to watch which is something movies have long since lost the ability to do, and that's be entertaining. Defiantly sequel worthy will just have to do some recasting. as Alex is a old fat bastard now lol
I reached a whole new level of respect for the Shadow after my bro pointed out it was the same guy who played Mr. Conductor in "Thomas and the Magic Railroad". And a whole new level of respect for Mr. Conductor! XD
As a kid, naturally I wouldn't have known Baldwin from too many places.
I'm not a huge fan of Alec Baldwin's work, but this one of my faves he's done, along with "Beetlejuice" and "Ghosts of Mississippi". One of my favorite scenes in "The Shadow" is the cab ride with Roy Tam, after he's saved on the bridge.
Critics considered this film corny, I think its actually just a really good style it was produced in, really one of the best overlooked characters/films so far I would say.
@PanterAmetal100 It's actually a pretty good film, contrary to the reviews of the time. It has definitely aged well. Same with The Phantom. Saw both of them in theaters during their original runs and loved them then. Still do today.
@alucard624 Agreed. And i guess it failed at box office not because of clumsy storytelling or something (that's not my point of view), but because no one gave a shit about both the Shadow and the Phantom, whereas these characters kick major ass. Like Batman is somewhat connected to the Shadow in terms of bringing the justice and so on... You get the point, right?
The portrayal of The SHADOW was great, just as it was in the pulps. Problem with the movie is several corny adaptations such as the pneumatic tubes to carry messages--the Shadow received messages and info through Clyde Burke, newpaper reporter and "investment broker" named Mann that was a front for his "organization". Use of the Khan storyline was wrong for a character introduction also, should've went with a different theme--there were some 300 different stories, any one would've been better.
This movie was so horrible. Alec isn't fit to play the role, and he does a horrible acting job in it. And I hate how he's so hairy, ever heard of shaving? And Penelope does a horrible acting job as well. Not to mention how annoying it is that she thinks she's so gorgeous and she's not. When girls have that attitude it just makes them less and less attractive.
@raulprima First off, I'm not a guy you fucking idiot, you would've gathered that if you read the name. And secondly hairy guys are gross. So it doesn't make me gay or stupid for not liking it or this movie.
This was a damned good adaption of the serials/radio programs, I was pleasantly surprised...Balwain was pitch perfect in the role, tho I would have cast a sultry brunette to play Margot Lane...
I saw it in theaters when it came out. As far as comic book adaptations go, The Shadow was underrated. I'm glad they're giving it another shot, though, and I hope Baldwin can be a part of it, in some capacity.
@TomatoeAssassin This time? (Chuckle) Hardly... Personally, I would've preferred Timothy Dalton (007: Living Daylights' 1987) in this role. Nowadays though, he's too old for the part. Costume & makeup matched the Walter Gibson pulp covers perfectly, but... Baldwin didn't seem natural in the part. And I missed not hearing Camille St. Saen's "Oompale's Spinning Wheel" in the Jerry Goldsmith score. That's like 'The Lone Ranger' without the 'William Tell Overture.'

If this movie came out today, i guess it could be successful enough to bring sequels. The beginning reminds me a lot of Batman Begins...

if it made ALMOST 50 million, i wouldn't call that a box-office failure, less than 10 mil? sure.
