  • those of you who discredit this video simply because the artist does not perform at your preferred "Difficulty" level, i ask why does a song have to be difficult in order to be good? maybe maksim was merely trying to relate a classical piece of music to a more pop culture range of modern day viewers who may have not come across the song totentanz before... personally i also agree that the original is best, however i also respect this version for the audience that it appeals to.

  • LISTEN YOU DUMBASSES THIS IS NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE REAL CLASSICAL MUSIC! if you are a fan of real classical music then go watch classical pianists performances. but you dumb ignorant fucks gotta know one thing. most people watching this video would never even have heard of Liszt if it wasnt for maksim. I like classical music and some of his music is shit. but i appreciate maksim for bringing classical music closer and more familiar to young people

  • You are judging the beauty of a piece by its difficulty? What kind of musician are you?

  • I heard someone ranting about the evils of Maksim Mrvica. I looked through some of his videos, and found him quite harmless: a little odd and eccentric perhaps. I thought exactly the same of this one, until I got to 1:06. This is bad. This is awful. This is murder. Never before have I and I hope never again will, hear the Dies Irae chat against an awful disco drum track. Never.

  • What the hell. Horrible!!!!!

    Liszt would kill him

  • Va' a lavorare, fallito!

  • I cannot forgive myself for giving this guy another view on youtube. Why would anyone do something like this in public?

  • mrvica noob!!!

  • Yeah....thumbs down...sorry...I like the original score better. I don't like the disco drums and the abscence of the truly difficult to play parts.

  • totally ridiculous! Anyone who likes REAL classical music and heard this piece played by pianists like Lisitsa, should know that this is horrifying. Not only he made Liszt a disco maniac but also he skips all the difficult parts and plays amateurishly the easy ones. SORRY but really really didn't like it.

  • @RachPhantom40 Well, this is not Tonentanz, it should be a „dance of death“, paraphrase on „Dies irae“ – Day of wrath. There's not a part of it... Maybe that it's a Disco „dance“ :-)

The only thing I disagree with you is, that I would place Argerich on the first place...

  • too business!!!!!!

  • Magari fosse cosi' facile....Cos'e' ? la versione per bambini dell'asilo?

  • How many pianos does this guy get through in a fortnight?

  • video y cancion demasiado bueno

  • What the fuck was this?

  • This is the ANTI-music!! Such a bad taste...

  • @ispanets He deserves death, like the piece's name. Liszt would definitely kill him

  • "Disco Totentanz"...I find it strangely cool and effective! However it's a shame the poor boy can't actually play any of the hard bits...conveniently left those out :P

  • this is how you can transform a classical masterpiece in some pop shit

  • He ruined it IMO.

  • @lvyassine Absolutely agree

  • Wow the winner of the international prokokiev competition, student of THE IGOR becomes trash like this.

  • lol so lame, it can give the stupid masses who cant undertsand how awsome liszts totentanz is, theyll be like hey it sounds like a move theme

  • Eventhough i appriciate the creativity, it shouldnt be named as totentanz, it is certainly a different "music". If you add some dancer girls, some fireworks it might be a good show but calling it classical music, moreover calling it Liszt's totentanz is an insult to Franz Liszt. By the way, if that is going to keep "classical music alive", i might even want to be deaf. Plus i am 19 if you consider it as old...

  • i'd rather listen the liszt version :s (played by lisitsa)

  • @ander2365 is there one of her playing with an orchestra? i can't seem to find that one

i mean the piano version is nice and all and but the orchestrated one is so much better

  • @4hm3dimr4n as i rather watch the piano solo version of LIsitsa, i don't know much about that. i've seen a few vids of enrico playing this and other pianist, but not valentina. this on the piano sounds real beating. hehe.

  • @ander2365 the way i see it, an entire orchestra is a lot more effective at painting a picture and portraying emotion than a single piano (given the same ideal composer...ex: totentanz) there are parts that the piano solo gets 100% but then there are parts (such as the climaxes) where it isn't as effective as the orchestra

for the record the enrico pace one sucks hard...there are a few good ones out there...i have a really good version on my ipod but i can't seem to find it on youtube...oh well

  • Liszt isn't resting in peace after that...

  • Wow so many negative comments. I was expecting the comments to be good cause i like this. Maybe its because i never heard of the original version? Or maybe im not old?

  • Excellent!! Even what some people think....thats a really good way to combine classic music with modern parts. That helps to keep classic alive.....and show the young generations how music began. So please.....MORE MORE MORE of that!!

  • Liszt is turning over in his grave. This is revolting!!!

  • this is disgusting. if i was there id spit on you for ruining such an extraordinary piece of music. Liszt would smash your face repeatedly on the keys until you bled out.

  • This just completely butchered Totentanz. Liszt would've committed suicide if he heard this.

  • Ó céus,que demais!!!!! Que música maravilhosa, emocionante!!!Essa música traz à tona o que tem de dinâmico na alma da gente!!! Simplesmente...lindo...não encontro a palavra!!!! É perfeito!!!

  • I hope Maksim doesn't turn into a new Lang Lang!

  • I am so disappointed in this.. from the comfort of my home. I can't imagine if I actually paid and went to see this live.

  • ...è unico!!! fortissimo!

  • uhhh...no

  • @Diffomega mmmmmmm no infatti.......

  • Its' not the original version from F.L

  • Once again Maksim brings nothing but shame to F. Liszts name and to the Piano. Can't stand this guy.

  • …is this a hollywood-version?

  • nice sound effects at the start but....

    wow...they messed up after 1:08

sounds like a club beat...thing is supposed to sound like skeletons and death -_-

  • @4hm3dimr4n That's what I was thinking to. I thought "Well, it's certainly crap compared to the original, but it's all right I suppose." Then when 1:07 came in then I just said, "No, it's utter shit."

  • It seems that this would have been a good [piece] for the blindfolded pianist to play in the orgy scene of Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut. What do you think?

  • Bells and whistles.

  • Démoniaque ....terrible !!!! j'aime beaucoup de genre de musique mais....je suis angoissée !!!! est-ce le but !

  • its awful

    totally....

  • @PaulAnisimov that's an understatement....they butchered the piece

  • wtf is this crap...

  • Easy version... awfull. You should see Enrico Pace playing this.

  • a lot.

  • I just threw up.

  • Lamest video I have ever seen. I nearly wanted to puke. He has completely ruined a great piece with repetitive sections - I mean seriously . . . I think I heard the first 60 seconds 5 times. Does anyone really PAY something to see this shit?

  • Maksim - genius :*

  • Army of Darkness is coming!!!!!!!!!!

    :D

  • Ahhhh the drumbeat is so cheesy!

  • Agreed.

  • wtf is this?? random guitar shreds? some weird drum beat?? rock and classical should stay seperate; I actually appreciate what Maksim is trying to do, but it sounds terrible.

  • I agree that this sounds pretty bad, but uh, rock (especially metal) and classical can go really well together. metallica did an ok job, but I haven't really seen anyone do a great job yet.

  • magnificent

  • This is an insult to Liszt. If his technique was any worse, then he would be Lang Lang.

  • Lang Lang's technique is phenomenal. If anything, all he does is put a little too much motion into his playing.

  • That's a complete lie and shows an incredible amount of misunderstanding of modern piano technique. If you want to talk phenomenal technique, then look no further than Art Tatum. He barely looks as if he's moving while he's playing the piano and yet he produces a phenomenal sound. Lang Lang's extra movements are nothing but showboat-y exaggeration that drag away from the quality of his piano sound. He has an incredible amount of tension when he plays and could be much better.

  • Much like your own piano technique, tension is one of the killers of producing a good piano sound.

  • if you look at a video of him playing when he was young, you'll see that his extra motions are not forced; its been a habit since he was young. and surprising as it may seem, Horowitz played with probably the most tension out of all the great pianists during that time.

  • The habitual motions I can believe (they are a bad habit though), but Horowitz does not have that much tension, comparatively (his Russian teachers at the time would have beat it out of him).

  • Comparitively to Lang Lang? Yes, I agree with that; Lang Lang employs some uneeded tension when he plays. That is not to say that Horowitz was "untense." While not nearly as much as Lang Lang, he still had more tension than other pianists of his time.

  • that pop drum beat wasn't right. So was the electric guitar.

  • BRAVO

  • 3:38 sounds like the symphony fantastique from berlioz

  • shut up all of you he's the best!

he's God, he fusioned classic and ROCK!!!

  • Yeah:)great guy

  • 3:38 rocks!!!

  • i wan dis mp3!!

  • OMG! Totentanz in rave style!?!? I have now seen it all.

  • This was totally AMAZING!!! kicked ass!

  • woa, man, hold on there. i'm sure if you tipe in "totentanz liszt", you'll find what you want. there's no need to lay such rough words on maksim. he is just doing what he knows best, the best he can. he didn't ruin, nor destroy any song. all he did was play it with his feelings and passion in his own way. he just created maksim mrvicas' totentanz. the original one still exists for us who prefer original

  • Thank you, Maksim, for ruining a masterpiece. If there was a "Piano Idol", Maksim would win; the south would definitely vote for you.

  • pure awsomeness

  • I love this piece

  • it sounds like lay all your love on me

  • I'm a big fan of Maksim but, I totally agree with progbassftw and ThisWontHurtMuch!

  • To be honest he did a good job, but, at least in my opinion, that's murder to totentanz...

  • Boy did you say a mouthful there. Yikes, Liszt is spinning in his grave faster than those 128th notes he wrote. Lord help us survive the disco era.

  • I don't think so. I think Liszt would be fascinated by the lights and electro effects n shit.

  • @ThisWontHurtMuch Liszt is spinning in his grave at 130 BPM

  • @ThisWontHurtMuch The said the same about Jazz, picasso and the impresionists....beside: can you play piano like he does? If not, just shut up and listen

  • he's talented. he's charming. he's gorgeous. he's sexy. he's my everything. he's simply perfect.

  • Oh my god, he is an idiot. How he can do that to TOTENTANZ?!

    He deserve to die.

    One star.

  • actually you deserve to die

  • AGREED! it's horrible... nearly as bad as all his other 'remixes' like the chopin etudes etc..

  • Beautiful! There's nothing else to say!

  • AMAZING song!

like all of my fave movies mixed together

  • Hi SweetBlood2,I glad you like!!....ahhh jajaja

we have the same kind of name, that good!! ^_^

  • @SweetBlood2 If you like this try the original and you´ll see how bad this version is

  • Hi sweetie thanks for being here!

  • Wow! That was intense!
