  • I can do every leap.....but this one...I try sooooooo hard...I think the problem is I'm not getting high enogh so that I can finish my switch.....-__________- any suggestions on how to get higher?

  • front leg wasn't high enough...

  • i have known this for two years i still cant get it right then in dance class i did it, fell, and sprained my ankle now i cant dance for a month

  • When I do it, my front leg is normally not high enough to be parallel, that's what my coach keeps saying :(.

  • I had to do a switch leap in Nutcracker this year (I was a Russian) and we did this differently. We did a chasse-step-step-switch. In my case I swung my left leg up even though I'm a righty. It's all personal preference though. If you keep doing it over and over again the leg you push off of will build up enough strength and you will FLY! Trust me. I had to learn a switch from nothing in 3 months and by the performance I was getting 3-4 feet off the ground.

  • I can barely get my front leg up at all..

  • @jfkvideos when i do it i can brush my leg front and back but i can't get my other leg high up enough in a full leap split.

  • They are great dancers, and are very helpful. Thanks!!

  • Thank yo soooo much for making this video!!!! I totally understand how to do those now!!!!

  • these are ssssooooooo easy

  • helped me out sooo much

  • She doesn't hit the full split.

  • i finallllly nailed mine yesterday! :)

  • That was easier than what my teacher taught me!

  • i finally got this last year =). SUPER HAPPY when I did. I can't seem to get my right one though...despite the fact that my right split on the ground is better than my left. next quite understood that.

  • now this I can do

  • these are so cool but they are so hard! Im working on them now

  • @stephannoettes same here :-)

  • I hate switch leaps -.-

  • I love switch leaps:)

  • blahhhh its so hard! but ive just about got it....not!

  • my switch leap better and higher than that

  • i was so determined to do this leap! it took me a month to perform it properly but in my set elevation for modern jazz i only get 3 steps not 4 like in the video before i swish the leg so it took me ages to build up enough strength to actually get this right. But its amazing to show off to friends once you can do it! perseverance is the way forward with this leap!

  • Thats awsome

  • @3hannah98

its more about leg stregnth than flexibility

make sure your legs are strong enough to switch fast enough

  • WHY IS IT THAT I AM FREAKY FLEXIBLE AND CAN OVERSPLIT MY NORMAL LEAPS AND JETE'S BUT I CANT DO A SWITCH LEAP CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME?

  • @3hannah98 Yup, I agree with @iiijordann you need both leg strengh and flexibility. Try doing plies and rises and carry some weights as you do them(when you feel ready). Build up strengh gradually, so you don't hurt yourself.

  • @imflycuzimJ4Y thank you heaps but i do have pretty strong legs and take ballet a lot and do rises every night before bed, but ill try more thankss

  • wow i can't wait to b able to do that

  • Amazing: D

  • These videos really rally help me :)

I watched the video on how to do fouettes and 2days later i could do 20. I just tried this, and i almost got it :D

  • so that's what they're called...lol, i couldn't for the life of me remember!

i've been working on them so much lately, they're absolutely so much fun.

    jumps r my thing....so yep! :)

    thanks...

  • @Daliamaya3211 it sounds like you're learning a switch side leap..?

  • this is so easy but im looking to learn to do a different kind of leap where u turn kinda side ways n stay there.... idk what its called haha

  • having a great plea' <----(idk how to spell) helps u get higher into the air, giving u more time to get into the full leap, I mastered swich leaps

  • @autumn21144 Plie. :]

  • Switch Leaps are SO hard!!! D:

  • i cant get into a full split D:

  • soooo ahrd agh I have to do this in recital soon ...help!

  • I like turtles.

  • im 15 and CANT DO A SWITCH LEAP! (:

if you can do a perfect switch leap why watch a video on how to do a switch leap?!

  • @icheer143 Same with me. And i totally agree, switch leaps are crazy hard!

  • Cool!! I'm 12 with a perfect switch leap too (:

  • i can't get my other leg up! it just stays straight :(

  • i no hahah my switch sux :(

  • ...I never really worked on these, but I remember last year I tried and was unable to, and this year I build muscle in my legs for drill team and immediately could do it perfectly. I guess the key is strength. >.>

  • @gymnast768 yeah youre right, you're no dancer, and would look absolutely silly if you did one of those on stage.

  • @gymnast768 ain't that just dandy for you

  • @gymnast768 well aren't you special

  • we call these switch splits but we go into a full jeta (dont know spelling) and were told to start with a chase (spelling?) into it to give more power so you get it flat

  • 1:15 AIR SPLITZZZZZ

  • 2 questions:

1 - Are Switch Leaps always brush or is it ok to developé?

2 - I absolutely love your guys' videos but could you please please please do some demonstrations with a chasé prep? I have to have switch leaps for my audition but we're not learning them in class yet so this is my only hope and we don't use the run prep. :O I would be forever grateful!

  • @EmmaSkies in my classes we normally do these with a chase prep on the same foot that's swinging then use our other leg for the "step" or leap... it's pretty much the same thing as the run just make sure you point your foot while going into the chase and go up instead of out to get off the floor more... it makes the leap A LOT easier!! unless you're going for movement, then take a wider chase to travel more. hope this helps! :]

  • @EmmaSkies Swith leaps are always brush never a developé.

  • That was her marking? That's my full out switch leap lol

  • @Laddi4195 yeah i no same, thats my best switch hahaha soooo hard!

  • ooooh i friggin love switch leg leaps:)

  • i love these vidios

i wish i went to this dance school but i

dont live by them :( they seem really good

ive looked it up and they have a bunch of things for dancers at home

its really cool people who go here r soooo super lucky

  • I love doing these. :)

  • these things are the death of me

  • @naturallycool100 agreed!

i was just informed i have to do this for a pom routine, and imt haveing a hard time but this video really did clarify it.

  • I hope this helps me! Im getting beater! But this vid really has let me break it down into the correct positions!

  • I'm working on my switch leaps but I don't really know how to make them better.

They are so hard!!! What exercises/ stretches/warm ups/etc should I practice to make my switch leaps better? I pretty much look like a spaz when I attempt it.

  • i looooooveee switch leaps!! they are gorgeous! once you get them they are not hard!

  • isn't this a sissor jump? omg i cannot do those

  • @arminedancer456 Yes they are also called scissor leaps

  • @XDanceLif3X thank you :)

  • her ''marking it'' is better than my full out?!?! wow i am so jealous, wish i could leap like this time to practice

  • These are soo hard to do lol

  • Yes switch leaps are hard

  • Two years ago I did a switch leap and landed wrong and I mess you my right leg really bad and had to go to PT, I have NOT done a switch leap in 2 years because I am really really scared that I am going to do the same thing, So I am really bad at them. • im getting it its just get ur front leg higher which is tricky!!!!!

  • that looks SO hard!

  • @MrSugarnspice Thats what she said! XD sorry. i just had to say that but yeah, its not as easy as it looks!

  • no sound boring.

and full tourre' into straddle (or 2nd)

    Thanks!!x

  • I could do this when I was like 8

  • I'm Learning those they are so fun!!

  • I Love doing these!! if you're right jetes are easier try to chase on you're left and then you'll end up in a right jete after switching. ps. PLIE!!

  • I can do a perfect split leap, why the hell can't I do this!!!

  • Thanks a bunch!!! I'm going into a advanced class this fall and this has given me a good idea of how 2 do a switch leap which is my worst move!!! I dnt wanna look like an idiot! Tnxs 4 helping me from an very embarassing moment!!!

  • i pretty much have my switch leap down, but it helped, thanks !

but a quick question of you all...

i pulled my left groin muscle a couple months ago in dance..

ive been stretching every night and its actully been helping,

but i want is just as flexable as my right, and im super flexable on my right leg haha..

  • How to do a switch leap with an extra half turn or full turn?

    Are there any skills?

And how to ensure that your leap is in perfect split position?

    Thank your for your reply

  • bommbbb.

  • A tip for making your left leg go higher would be to develop the muscles in your leg that way it will be easier. Also in my class we chasse twice and then run in a slight plie three times. It gives you more momentum for the leap.

  • omg I can't do a switch leap at all. My supporting leg doesn't go forward enough.

  • I need help with mine. Can anyone help me?? Okay, well i have everything down. Its just that my left leg isnt going high enough. My right leg is doing the switch. how can i improve the left leg??

  • I need help, okay. well, i have everything down. i just need help with getting my legs higher and stuff. How do i go about doing that?

  • @lexiewexie

    stretching and strengthening!

    lol soo much fun.

  • Damn you, you do it so pretty.

  • My left foot refuses to go forward:/ and don't you chasse instead of run? Either way her leap was beautiful.

  • Shes pretty good, she makes it look so easy!

  • i am working on my switch leap its sooooo hard

  • @dancechick4ev yes!!!

  • @dancechick4ev same! !

  • @dancechick4ev hahaha i second that!

  • instead of running, we do a right chasse kick the left leg and then hit full split with your right foot to the front and left to the back.

  • i know what thing that can help you in dance is like 100 curl up or more a lot of push ups to stretch and to run and do jumping jacks

  • In australia we call them scissor jumps.

And they are so hard to do....

  • i love switch leaps

  • For example, if u jump like in this video, which leg needs to be stronger??

  • What ever leg is your best leg. Depends on what side your on

  • @simpleplanfangirl the one you are jumping off of.

  • do you have to be able to do the spilts to do a that?

  • in general, they look a lot better if you can do the splits.

  • Lol yes.

  • is it true that if that you dont have your splits yet you can still be able to do a straight swich leap??

  • @uyenmainguyen

Yeah, of course you can do it,

you can try any leap without splits.

You legs just wont be fully extended,

and it won't look as nice.

BUT, if a person has enough strength,

they might be able to almost hit a split just for a couple seconds.

So, you COULD try that with this.

It'll just look very tight, resistant, and snappy instead of smooth.

  • my teacher has us swing our left leg and then a right leg leap> it seams easier swinging left leg.

  • I have a question. There's this kind of leap that we have to do in dance but I forget what it's called. You do 2 steps backwards, turn and point your left leg, then jump turn and switch to the right leg in the air and land on the left if that makes sense lol. Does anyone know what that's called? :S

  • butterfly kick?

  • it's called torjete

  • im guessing a tour jete. thats what it sounds like to me.

  • I'm choreographing a contemporary piece for 8 to 10 year olds. Don't want to make it to difficul, don't want to make it to easy. Any suggestions? (Songs would help)

  • how advanced are the dancers?

  • HINT for people that find switch leaps hard.... do not leave the ground when you do the dégagé. wait until you pass through first position again before leaping. otherwise you make yourself do too much work!

  • @giraffe1spots5 that makes a lot of sense! thank you! i have a problem of lifting my front leg when i do it

  • @giraffe1spots5 you would be doing the leap totally wrong. the "switch" in switch leap means that you switch legs in the air, not on the ground.

  • ok thankss! i will try that... when i can. haha cant dance for 2 weeks ): broke my toes

  • hey does anyone know a good song for a jazz solo??

  • justin nozuka : Dont listen to a word youv'e heard

  • you really got me by van halen?

  • its about that walk by prince

  • anyone have any advice on ways to get more height in the air??

  • I've been told to do a lot of jumps in the air and jumping jacks help? But if you go to justforkix,.com under articles for students they have advice on getting jumps higher!

  • ok i will try that! thank you soo muchhh. all my dance teachers keep telling me to get higher and its definitely harder than it seems! <3

  • deeper plie and look up

  • have a very deep plie. and a good tip is to take two chairs back to back and pratice your switch leap grabbing onto them.

  • @livetoDANCE11 when I do leaps I jump with my left leg BEFORE swishing and kicking my right. She swishes her right leg up first and then jumps. I don't know which one is right, but I think you can get more power if both legs are down when you jump.

  • @livetoDANCE11 you have to plie.

  • yeah we call it a switch split...many different names for the same move :)

  • this seems to be very helpful and descriptive, but the flexibility could be better, just saying :) still great job

  • In my dance studio we call this a scissor leap

  • thank you so much this helped me out alot you guys are the only video that showed a decent switch jete'

  • oooooooooooooooooh. i always thought that your backleg goes straight out before switching. that should make it easier now

  • is it possible to do a switch fire bird leap?

yeah i was just wondering... that would be awesome if it could be accomplished!

  • Yeah it's possible, I've done it before, once.

They're really cool and fun, but if you don't stretch out first you'll pull something.

  • it's a switch ring leap, usually you see it in a lot of elite gymnastics floor routines.
