  • @xHJ26x u have a point, i would never let mg friend plumet to death.

  • we were learning about this in school it's really sad but this man is An insperation to all.

  • the thing which annoyed me most about this film was the ending when it said ''simon received intense criticism for cutting the rope'' from other climbers , fuck me those climbers must be cold hearted and never been in the same situation , what they must under stand was it was rather both of them dying or one of them.

  • These guys are pussies.. Just joking.

  • I watched this on the Discovery channel Amazing documentary!

  • the freaky thing is.. after Joe went through all this... in the end of the movie... it says that Joe is currently still climbing :0

  • I reading the book now for English

  • An amazing documentary!

  • @xHJ26x you would have done the exact same thing

  • one of my fave films, it really captures the peril those climbers faced

  • That's so amazing how he survived... I think if I was Simon, I'd have cut the rope, but I've never climbed a mountain in my life so I can't really understand his situation.

  • I've seen this was scary

  • Great Movie!!, it shows all emotions....plus it's a true story. It's the closest to a death experience but joe live to tell his story.

  • Three people don't know what is craving for a survival...

  • Simon had no choice - he was holding the full weight of Joe and they were too far apart to communicate! The rope was taught meaning they had no possibility of sending a signal to each other. It must have been the hardest decision of Simon's life but he had no choice! If Simon had not of cut that rope, they would BOTH be dead however he made the right decision and it resulted in both brave men to be alive! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but please don't say mean things! Amazing Story!

  • @vickizspace aww sht the fuk up!

  • @everyone who is saying he had to cut the rope.. If you were on that mountain with ur friend at the other end not know what was wrong would you just assume they were dead and cut the rope without knowing... I think Simon shldnt have cut the rope because basically that is just showing how un loyal Simon is and that he obviously only cared about himself at the time because a good friend would've stayed on the rope...

What IF Joe died because of Simon cutting the rope then what would you all say

  • @xHJ26x ,

Simon couldn't stay up there forever and they had no-one to help them! He had no choice and the decision must would have been unbelievably difficult. Simon proved his loyalty by waiting at the bottom of the mountain, just encase Joe did turn out to be alive. If Joe had died, I think you would feel guilty about what you said about Simon as Simon himself would live the rest of HIS life in guilt of what the decision he was FORCED to make. If Joe HAD died, the story wouldn't be as amazing

  • If you love Touching The Void as much as we do, check out our youtube channel with trailers and sneek peaks and feel free to leave your comments

  • I hate it when people call him 'the man who cut the rope'. He had to do it!

  • I don't like the Simon backlash either. People act like he should've stayed on the mountain and died to prove his loyalty to Joe. And what good would that have done anyone? Plus what if the other guy had left had Simon not come back. Then Joe would have survived all that for nothing.

Although I did think Simon could've shouted down the crevase. Then I thought, Joe could've landed anywhere and that crevase was both long and deep. Where would Simon even start?

  • You can now follow Joe on Twitter, (TouchingTheVoid).

  • This is one thing that really annoys me. People ask why don't they tall anymore, he must still be mad blah blah blah. Simon and joe weren't childhood friends who only climbed together. They were only recently aquainted when they even decided on climbing the mountain together. Anyone who climbs knows that you rarely only climb with the same one person. Joe climbed with millions of other partners before this incident. Hope that settles it.

  • I remember watching part of this in primary and the teacher muted it cause there was the sound affect where the climber broke his leg and sir didn't want the class to hear it lol

  • @TwinGleeks101 Omg, super weird, similiar thing happened to me. I'm sure we watched this in primary and the teacher wouldn't let us watch past that part and we were complaining. :L

  • Joe Simpson to this day has always defended Simon for what he did. He doesn't blame him and he believes profoundly that what Simon did was the correct thing to do. Take it from someone who has met them both and climbed the Eiger.

  • @TractorOfDeath

    LMAO

  • A fantatstic movie, even with a touch of humor in it sometimes. I strongly recommend it to you!

  • I love this movie, one of my favourites!!

  • @edwaerin

    roflmao

  • It is stories like this which really opened me up to the love of climbing I now have. It is bizarre that such a harrowing story of survival can INSPIRE people to want to climb. Both of these guys are accidental legends, though great climbers. Anyone for the Eiger? I need a partner! ;)

  • i watched it yesterday. amazing.

  • great movie

  • a remarkable story of survival in the face of overwhelming odds... i watch it online at

    EasyMediaClick (dot) com

  • This movie is the perfect example of the will to survive - to live. So many useless people throw life away over the silliest things - then you have men like these two through pain and fear battling to live on. A truly great movie/doco. I was on the edge of my seat.

  • lol i had to watch this in enrichment !! it was sad :(

  • @Lozziieable what's so funny, eh?

  • lol

  • I would watch this movie over and over again! It's just great, and what really impressed me is that this is a real story, not something that Hollywood invented. It's simply great!

  • Hey! its a documentary, the whole point of them are that they are real stories!

  • Probably the best mountaineering film ever made!!

  • I'm just getting this movie - I can't wait to watch it :P!

  • I remember watching this film, it was scary back then, still is now, poor guys - it was really tough on them :(

  • @PatisserieCookie thats a really thoughtfull thing to say :)

  • just great

  • SIMON! Great movie.

  • this movie will attract you from the first moment to the last one seriously

  • I watched this film in geography it was good

you honestly can't blame simon for cutting the rope most people if in that situation would do exactly the same thing

  • I've seen it, it's pretty good. Although after a while the two main guys did get on my nerves a little. I mean, if they didn't prepare for trouble like that it's really their own fault. Nobody else to blame really.

Having said that this movie or dramatized documentary did get me interested in mountaneering.

  • hewwo english lesson book review lmao

  • i read the book and i'm excited to watch this movie, the book was amazing and i began to see Joe Simpson as my hero for tearing his ACL and still managing to live.

  • The most important thing in mountain is keep making decisions. If Simon hadn't cut it, they would have died both because of the temperature. The worst decision in a place like that will always be better than no decision at all.

  • It had been climbed, the West Face which they were climbing had not been climbed. I'm sure you can do a knot in 15 seconds but can you do it with frost-bitten fingers also he could'nt see Joe nor hear him. I'd like to know what you'd do in the situation but i would not wish it upon anyone!

  • Simmon was put in a bad situation with little time to think, What seems better, He drags you down you both die, Or cut the rope and save at least yourself, Its a myricle ( bad spelling :D ) they are still alive today :)

  • One of the best climbing/mountaineering videos in existence. Ties with "The Sharp End"

  • i saw the film at school he swears alot

  • I Watched This In Geography Its Brilliant

  • A very moving and emotional film, must see. It covers the tragedies they faced extremely well.

    5*

  • wow this really is an amazing movie and i recommend strongly that if you haven't seen it you go and rent it because its really cool

  • dude me too!

  • I'm a peruvain climber (please forgive my bad english)and my opinion is tha Simon could have use a proper technic to help Joe, but i dont judge him. As climber I thought many times what could I have done in Simon position.

It happened in july 2003. I got and accident with my partner in Yerupajá (the peak next Siula Grande). My partner broke his leg at 6000 meters descending an ice wall and I was able to help him, in part thanks of what I learnt with the Simpson and Yates incident.

  • hi i am doing mountin's in i dunno wah lesson but my teacher told me the story about joe simpson and his frend and i couldnt believ he survived its a miricle nd it was only bwt 10 years ago but its... i csnt put it in to words when i heard it i was like... omg i eally wanna see tha movie and read tha book

  • Why so many potty words?. Do they help to "look" cleverer?.

  • Ofcourse...you would have faired better right?

I love you weekend warriors. All talk...no knowledge. You look at a situation you've never been in and talk about what mistakes were made without a clue.

At the end of the day, Joe and Simon nailed the climb, both survived and are still climbing today. They win. We've heard of them...who the fuck are you guys?

  • ha ha ha great comment - but you don't have to be that cruel with the audience. By the way Joe and Simon are one of the thousands of mountain climber - but they are known just because of the book and because someone was ready to make this movie about them.

Believe me to the summit there are daily more tragic stories that you Joe and Simon ever imagine!!!!

  • I dont think that every day some guy climbes a 6000 peak breaking his leg (knee) and then survive cause of unstoppable will to survive - i've read the book and the feelings and his journey down can be seen much more better in the book.

  • hes my uncle joe, my mums lil brother n my godfather, he dedicated this game of ghosts (another book 2 me). hes dun loadsa shit lol its well funny wen he comes up at christmas n stuff n gets wasted n tells me bout all his legend times on the slopes

  • This game of ghosts is my fav. book of your uncle Joe's. rcgesh,I think he's an amazing guy and his articles crack me up.i missed his gorilla doc. when it was on t.v. but i have his other 2 film docs.on dvd. What i wouldn't give to hear him tell his stories, wasted or not. Merry christmas & Cheers to you both.

  • he's coming up 2mro (19th dec) to drop of presents, we live near york n he lives in sheffield, whereabouts r u lol

  • Hi rcgesh, thanks for replying. Hope he gives you nice gifts and tells a good tale lol.. I live in durham city. I went to your uncles film premier at Kendal not so long back. I am sad to read that he won't be making any more docs.I wonder when his next book will be finished, i asked around on his website but got no reply. Fingers crossed he will promote it with a book signing.I bet you get asked about him all the time. Is he still snowboarding ?, and do you climb and stuff or not.

  • I don't climb but I ski. He did a film thing with channel 4 about a month ago called the beckoning silence. Present wise he aint fairy godmother lol. Last yr me n my sis got novelty alarm clocks and fairy lights. Then again we're lucky, he only buys us presents cos him n my mum were best friends as they're the youngest of 5 and were the last 2 be sent 2 boarding skl gorwing up.

  • Lol, that was the premier i watched, i read about your mum and him, in the book he dedicated to you. It must seem weird people saying that to you and talking about your uncle. I ski and board but i am a better skier than boarder, i am a disaster area on a board but i love it, and the mountains of course. Fairy lights for a gift lol, it could be worse, i once got given a plate.r u ski ing this year, i love christmas skiing

  • your uncle is a total hero and sex god although i suppose you can't comment on the sex god bit as that would be soooo wrong lol. Bet his stories are fantastic though!!!!!!!!!!

  • Not to spoil anything but if you haven't heard Joe or Simon speak of this climb you shouldn't judge. PLEASE watch or read it all then you might see things differently. THANKS

  • the book, the film, brilliant, shows us all we can do anything we want to,if we try, well done, quite an inspiration to us all

  • dcddjc what are you talking about? what yould you do if you were lying on powder snow that was slippng from under you with a person at the end of the rope that could be dead, sitting vertical thousands of feet in the air on a near vertical ledge, with no help around for miles? You would cut the rope also... So Simon is not an idiot he just did anything to survive, this documentary is excellent i am going to buy the book asap.

  • Fantastic - I saw it on tv -

Simon was the one who cut the rope - an Idiot - but Simon was also the one who saved the life of Joe .... because he didn't left the camp - he didn't know why but he stood there .... many days later the wonder happens!

Thank you for posting the trailer.

  • I had read the book 1st and was leary of the movie for I was afraid it wouldn't be able to carry over the intensity of the situation but having Simon Yates and Joe Simpson tell the story made this documentary as excellent as it is.

  • Simon is an idiot? Have you even met the guy? Have you ever climbed a fucking mountain and been in such a shitty situation? Would you have know that your partner was hanging over a crevasse? Yeah. I bet you answer 'no' to every one of those questions so go fuck yourself dcddjc instead of passing judgment on people who have accomplished more in a year than you will in 10 lifetimes.

  • you don't know who you are talking to.

relax and go back in the hole you came out YETI....

  • Are you replying to me?

If so, I know exactly who I'm talking to.

  • burp

  • SOEdigital - The Summit of Himalaya is meantime a joyride for everyone. Siula Grande nothing special....like you.

  • Yeah dig that hole deeper, numpty.

I don't think your head will fit yet.

Do us a favour....go climb something. Untill then, you're all talk.

  • SOEdigital - SpangeBob is waiting for you....

  • @dcddjc Simon had no choice but to cut the rope. Either cut or be dragged down the mountain. Keep in mind that the snow on Siula Grande is powdery, not icey like most mountains.

  • @dcddjc

Simon wasn't idiot to cut the rope

  • @Allemaalmensen why not?

  • @dcddjc

What else should he do then?

  • Simon was no idiot. A climb under such extreme and volatile conditions is an extremely dangerous when you are only carrying your own person, there is a very narrow line between life and death. Chances of carrying another seriously injured climber back down and surviving is next to zero. He is a hero for even attempting to save his partner who expected he would be left behind.

  • Neither able raise or lower his partner suspended from the cliff, and not able to hold him any longer, he made the only possible and sensible decision. When people climb, it is with the understanding that you may die, and that such a serious injury WILL cost you your life. You also accept that you may die at the error of your partner. 4 years ago I fell 30m due to my partners error, he caught my rope 5 meters from a rocky ledge, the rope stretched and I hit hard, but thanks to him Im not dead!

  • Could you post the Docu up mate?
