I agree. Eggman works best when he's a serious villain instead of a buffoon. On the other hand, there have been a few post-SA2 games (Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 2006 and Sonic Chronicles) where Eggman was a serious villain, but unfortunately in those games Eggman is overshadowed by other villains such as Black Doom, Mephiles and Lord Ix. He was great in Sonic Battle, however, and at the very beginning of Sonic Unleashed.

Agreed. Sonic Team needs to bring Dr. Robotnik back to center stage as the primary villain. They don't even need to get rid of anyone (OK, except for Silver). What they need to do is put the focus back on Robotnik and Sonic. I sincerely hope this "Project Needlemouse" thing does that.

Well, in Sonic Unleashed the focus was mainly on Sonic and Robotnik. Robotnik is the primary villain and the only regular supporting characters who appear are Tails and Amy, who play very minor roles. On the other hand, in Sonic Unleashed Robotnik starts out as a serious villain (especially in the opening cutscene) and then halfway into the game he turns into a buffoon. Hopefully in "Project Needlemouse" he'll remain serious all the way through.
