Amazing. I MUST learn this next. Normally I'd stick to Debussy, Liszt, or Rachmaninoff, but wow... This guy's use of semi-predictable harmony and an overall method of projection that I've never seen before just astonishes me.
Hmm, I've heard Ccriabin and I enjoy his musical language aswell. Janacek, on the other hand, I've never heard of. I'll look out for him. Thanks It's true that this piece seems to strongly compares to Debussy... as if written by him. It's just this specific progression, paired with the impressionistic projection that amazed me.
The melodies are very "hebraic". Fascinating how Ornstein could switch between wild primitivism of his more radical works, to almost Rachmaninoff like romanticism of this sonata !
Excellent. Thank you for uploading Ornstein's 4th and 8th sonatas. For those interested in acquiring Verbit's recording, it can be found on the Albany Records label.
Isn't there any (official) recording of sonata no. 5?
I couldn't find any on leoornstein . net ...

1:21 sounds a bit like Clair de Lune.

Such beauty and ferocity comes from Ornstein's compostitions. This doesn't look easy to play...

On another note, Ornstein's music, especially this piece, remind me a lot of Samuel Barber's works.

Probably why I like it! I've already learned all of Barber's solo piano, minus the Sonata. And now I want to learn this!

Thanks! Great site.
Anyone else notice that the recording sounds a half-step higher than written? Pretty neat.

I think it might actually be sounding a half-step lower than written...but I'm not completely sure.
