I have 2 amps, one for my sub and one for my speakers. Just got a Legacy 10 band EQ and I'm confused about the wiring. Do you have to splice the remote wire from an amp to get remote power to the EQ or can you just plug it in the same remote input for my amp? Also instead of going through my hood to the battery can I use the battery hook up from one of my amps to power the EQ? I will clearly ground the other wire properly.
@browardcountydj yeah you could I did the same thing but went to my headunit because it is closer but yes you could do that so that they are linked and powered together.
@TwinTurboBass still straight wires under when ever I get a new system I am going new from the wires all the way to the subs in the back that is when the wires will all be sorted better. Yeah that car doesn't have any where to put those wires so I really had no choice at the time.
But might I add, The video is very helpful to people not understanding the way to install a EQ. It can be tricky at times depending on the type of install your doing.
Just pointing out how you have the (Power Wires) to I'm guessing your Amp and EQ (?) ran through the Hood line and down through the Fender where it meets the door. Granted you HAVE fuses on the lines but, after seeing and fixing other peoples "Wire Jobs" like that after it has burnt up half their car and most of their audio system from the hood slamming down or the door and grounding out the power. I've ran into this many of time with Fuse Blocks being faulty and still running power.
@0517Jones didn't have the time to cut a hole through my firewall or a big enough drill bit I know thats unsafe knew it was before I ever even ran the wires that way thanks for pointing that out I have actually crossed a wire once blew a fuse and I did have a cut wire and it touched on metal and blew a fuse. But yeah once it gets past the door it is all under the carpet to the back not out of the car one day(when I upgrade my amp and subs will be the day that I will have a better wiring job.)
@KMCIndustries No you go from the HU to the EQ on the back of your HU run a set of RCA's one red and one white to the back of your EQ. So the output of your HU goes to the input on your EQ and then From your outputs on your EQ you run another set of RCA's to your amp.
hey brotha im having a HUGE problem wiring this up...my power and ground into the unit are obvious but the remote is not working...apparently it needs 12 volts or higher from the remote wire in
@muscleammo Are you saying the problem is the remote wire? If so where are you running the remote too? If that isn't what you are asking can you clear it up a little bit.
@zdawk ok theres 3 inputs for power on the EQ...power/ground/remote....my power and ground are good and tested 14.1 volts but my 12 volt remote signal/wire coming from my Head unit reads 1 volt when plugged into the EQ. I already called SonicElectronix and they deemed it defective and theyre sending my a new one...sucks because my WHOLE install cant do shit without that EQ because thats where all my RCAs are coming from
@muscleammo oh that sucks yeah I had some problems with my eq a while back luckily I fixed it because I got mine somewhere else but yeah my remote port stopped working and it just stayed on. Glad they could help you with it.
@kirkramcharitar1 To be completely honest an Eq is never necessarily needed if everything is wired and tuned right. I have an EQ because of the looks and I wanted something right by me for tuning instead of having to go to the trunk to tune it down or up. I only have one amp and I use the EQ. But to briefly answer your question no an EQ is not necessary.
@281whipit yes you could I have it all wired seperate as far as grounding and the positive to the battery but if you wanted you can hook up the + and - to the back of the radio on its + and -
@wshawn45136 yes I know this I have had it wired this way for months haven't had any problems yet I was gonna get out there with a drill one day and make a whole but I didn't. I don't want any wires under the car which is where the holes to the pedals go I will eventually drill right into the firewall and have a straight shot under the hood. Just haven't got around to it.

If you have external amplifiers, can you just plug the remote wire into the remote input on one of the amps instead of going to the fuse box?

you know where your peddles are at most cars have a hole there you can put your wires there instead of the door area cause might cut with the door
