Idealists always crack me up because they believe that there is a good side and a bad side. What they need to learn is that in war both sides will do horrible things to win. There is no white and black in war only shades of gray.

The United Mankind seem to be naive intemperate jerkass idealists. They represent the rabble.

However, this makes a good point. Just because I think the Abh are wrong as a government, that doesn't mean that individual Abh are monsters. They are just loyal to their nation.
whether some imperials (abh empire) just conquer because they can, or whether some wanna-be-democrats (united mankind) pretend to be fighting for "freedom"... the result is the same: conquest of enemy territory, war.
now if you believe whatever crap they say about "legitimate reasons". they still go into the offensive. is there really a big difference?
there's a saying: history is written by the winners. obviously it is legitimate to pretend to be the good one after you won.
And yes they are trying to take over space because they can. Abh's are dicks as you watch this series later especially the commander/generals. Ordering men into battle from a bank of computers never looked so weak before.
Mankind's reason's for stopping the Abh is pretty poorly written. The anime could have been better if mankind was fighting for freedom of government instead of being ignorant. Instead the anime tries too hard to make the audience sypathize with abhs and belittle mankind.
Actually the people in charge of mankind weren't ignorant, it was the people who were ignorant and led by mankind to hate the abh. It just irked me that the anime tried to make mankind seemed illogical and the bad guys.

@Ares99999 What we are basically seeing is this. The Abh have desided to cease control of all intersteller ships. For them it is like seizing all of the nuculer weopons of the world. They hope that by doing this, they will be able to avoid a huge intergalactic war. While they do go to war it's not as bad as it would have been. I think their shooting for the lesser of two evils. The have become the tyrants on purpose. They know what there doing

And if their aim was to stop an intergalactic war... they failed. The series show that the Abh and the Humans are engaged in a integalactic war. Which, so far, is largely a draw.

But that won't happen. The humans will eventually win by sheer numbers and likely eventually wipe the Abh out.

Ever watched gattaca? I disagree with Abh and United Mankind. There is no really good or bad side. Whats better for humanity as a whole though is probably choosing to side with Abh. Better as in economically and politically more sound. Even philosophically and ethically better than mankind in that they don't try to manipulate the public with lies. I disagree with their genetic manipulation and lack of freedom or power in the people to question or influence Abh government.
The abh aims to gain control to stop a huge intersteller wars between all of the planets befor it happens. It seems harsh but everyone surrenders without a fight and the Abh nation doesn't even really rule the planets afterwards. I don't really know what to think.
I hate to say it but I feel more affinity for United Mankind than the Akh. Never did like Imperial Empires and I especially don't like empires that invade other peoples' planets and overthrow democratically elected local governments just because they can. Sounds too much like the old "Imperial Japanese Co-Prosperity Sphere" for my taste.
WOW....So who are the bad guys here? lol, the United Mankind sounds downright xenophobic and genocidal while the Abh Empire seems hellbent on conquering all known space for themselves...Though thats hard to believe based on how friendly the crew of the Gosroth are.

@Tinhh Mankind first created the Abh and used them as slaves untill the Abh fought back and took land for themselves. Both sides have a story.
