I'm now a millwright. Left Ironworkers due to lack of work. I was a roofer for years as well. All Union. I will say this. Commercial and residential roofing by far is the most taxing on the body. Millwright work is very close to Ironworker work, except nastier if there's breakdown and you have to go through rotten grain and feed to work. But the union trades do have much to offer, but they are full of themselves. Talkin bout rats taking "our" work. Fuck that! It's anyone's work. Go get it

Okay then, it WAS lack of production,and it seems that there was an existing structure.Not exactly adrenaline pumping.You can call ot connecting,but,I think the Girl Scouts could have gotten a merit badge out of it.I don't have anything against roofers,but putting in a lintel here and there isn't connecting.There's a good reason for having jurisdiction.
i'm not trying to be an ironworker or say i was, the only thing i said was i connected on a job, for 8 hours a day, it's was 4 guys, not a raising gang. yeah we built a new roof and tied into the existing structure, with steel and b deck. For 2 days we would connect and weld, 2 days dry it in, etc. again wtf is so hard about connecting steel? since it's so hard maybe i'll go join the IW401 just to say i did it.

I witnesed two iw job fatalities in my time and knew one of the iw my whole apprenticship, they deserve more than they're package ,it's sucks people don't understand the importance of organized labor an the impact it has on job safety. Really glad you said most..I build barges for a living, and daily, i'm lifting and carrying at minimum, 200 pounds of steel while walkin on a 3 inch I beam, and 2 inch channel. And your catching them in class, find the old schools standin on the I's for 30 years...bet ya wont sound so big then ;]

Though I will agree, most get fatter over-time, and become alcoholics, but, ya gotta remember the newer ones gotta follow a bajillion OSHA laws, and dont lift or carry near as much as they used to, So I think thats why most are not as strong..but there's still a few of us out there that do the grunt work to keep the weak ones happy.

Okay then, it WAS lack of production,and it seems that there was an existing structure.Not exactly adrenaline pumping.You can call ot connecting,but,I think the Girl Scouts could have gotten a merit badge out of it.I don't have anything against roofers,but putting in a lintel here and there isn't connecting.There's a good reason for having jurisdiction.

i'm not trying to be an ironworker or say i was, the only thing i said was i connected on a job, for 8 hours a day, it's was 4 guys, not a raising gang. yeah we built a new roof and tied into the existing structure, with steel and b deck. For 2 days we would connect and weld, 2 days dry it in, etc. again wtf is so hard about connecting steel? since it's so hard maybe i'll go join the IW401 just to say i did it.
