@chimandude Nah. But then again, I'm the granddaughter of a US Navy captain who served honorably in WWII and Korea. And - the Navy has discovered the Army's weakness, and it is football! 10 consecutive wins against West Point! LOL
@parisiteinfect breaking the barrier of light would mean proving newtons laws of physics wrong. BUT new news has been released claiming particles that HAVE breached the speed of light, who knows if it's a data error or if it's legit. but the exciting thing is it's legit time travel is theoretically possible ;)
@nexus1g You are right, but everyone forgets that the F-14 wasnt meant to dogfight, its purpose was to fly out and intercept dangers to the us, wether it be long range fighters or Nuclear bombers, it wasnt meant to be a fighter and go into a turning battle, it was meant to intercept and it did that better then any other plane out there
@k4s3l The so called vapor cone. condensation from sudden pressure changes. Very common, especially in areas with high humidity (directly above open water). A full cone happens at about M 0.8 or so in a steady flight. However the effect achievable even at low speeds, high alpha maneuvers for example.
Many mistake the vapor cone as a sign of supersonic flight, when in fact it has absolutely nothing to do with supersonic flight.
In fact when youre truly supersonic, which is above M1.2 not M1.0 btw, this cone is no longer present even if you could achieve such speeds at the low altitudes necessary for this, which is extremely difficult, dangerous and even impossible for most jets.
@k4s3l Its breaking the sound barrier. It's like a rip or tear in the atmosphere. I see how this completely proves Einsteins theory of space, and relativity. Space is like a giant blanket, and if enough mass passes through it, the sheet will "bow" kinda like if your set a bowling ball on a sheet that was stretched out really tightly from all corners.
@KawasakiPlant makes no difference as documentation regarding serviced units is publicly available. As well as nearly all components are made by private companies and thus the performance can easily be estimated even if its not 100% accurately given to the public.
Its not like it can magically break the laws of physics.
If the engines simply can NOT provide enough thrust for it to go SS and if the airframe is OBVIOUSLY NOT made for SS flight - even an amateur can conclude that it wont go SS.
@pacometaco22 no thats moisture condensing on the aircraft, it actually has nothing to do with the sound barrier, they will make clouds at subsonic speeds too, actually during a indycar or nascar race or something similar on a humid summer day small vapor trails will come off the back of the cars and they dont go supersonic obviously
@pacometaco22 the cloud is water condensate. The air can well handle the speed actually. Gas/air can travel faster then the speed of sound, technically and it even happens naturally and for example in the jet engine itself even when you dont go transonic/supersonic.
Some parts of the jet just cause some air to compress creating the shockwave (although after a few feet its just sound as the pressure drops).
@Buuub08 the speed of sound in dry air at standard temperature and pressure is about 770mph. while i agree that the shockwave compresses the water to the point of condensating, that is not what constitutes the shockwave. a shockwave is the result of disturbances in a medium (air) not being able to propogate (wave) upstream faster than the object creating the disturbance (airplane), resulting in a buildup up pressure along the wavefront. that mass of compressed waves is what creates the sound.
@overdocistri188 Yes but the air gets compressed only for an instant and the pressure is no longer present after a short distance. After that its a sound wave of high intensity. Your speakers are not making shockwaves you know, they are making sound waves no matter how big they are.
And to create the condensate effect one doesnt need to be supersonic, in fact you can make it happen even at smth like 250mph. Look at some high alpha maneuvers.
@t008er according to some pilots, it feels great but frankly speaking aside from no sound of engine, you don't really get the sense of speed in air. Although near ground flight gives you the idea of how fast you are moving, in the air, moving at mach 2 won't make any difference to them. You need to move at speed of Mach 5-6 to get an idea of how fast it is. Mach 1 isn't that much of a speed. "Breaking sound barrier" sounds cool, that's all!
@dipu94321 reaching the speed of light is impossible...with the theories we have now the closer u get to the speed of sound time slows down and if speed is distance divided by time we will be traveling the less distance over the same time so our speed would decrease until we stop
Would you PLEASE reupload this WITHOUT the music. NO MUSIC ALLOWED IN VIDEOS CONTAINING OBVIOUS SOUND SOURCES SUCH AS JET AIRCRAFT BREAKING THE SOUND BARRIER!!!!!!!!!!!
Personally, I'd rather kiss my girl than fly a jet....but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love to break the sound barrier in a F-14 Tomcat. That plane's been a favorite of mine as far back as age 4. Always wanted to fly one, because it looks like these guys have too much fun in these things.
@45Mang Speed increases as you go through it, yes. On the HUD, it just goes 0.9 then 1.0 then 1.1 mach and so on. Depends on the capabilites of the aircraft as to how much faster it CAN go.
@45Mang adding on to what 45mang said, also, if it goes too fast, the wings will rip off... thats why the sr71 blackbird is the fastest, because its the only one aerodynamically capable to go that fast
@callmemrfixit it's all good mate. we all do our own thing. ive been enlisted in the navy for a couple years and i love it. But like @wdwatts says...make the future better ;)
we could make these into spacecrafts its just the air force r 2 lazy 2 fix the problem of having oxygen and the craft itself not freeze because the higher u go the colder it is.

@PATRIENIX Isnt. The top speed is 650 mph. Cruise speed around 550.

Also the ferrite coating it has would just tear clean off at SS flight.
