@takeawayeverything hes even used prs, and a little fun fact, john doesnt actually record with martin acoustics, he simply performs with them, a little known fact is he actually records with a taylor 814e, hes had the gibson for ages
I like my guitar gods cocky. If he was modest, it of course wouldn't change the music, but i find arrogance endearing. He always says stuff tho like "my failure to sound like my heroes is what makes me sound like me". So, he has got a humble streak in him.
@parisianUK it's halfly a bad comment. Well, in my very humble opinion, there's a part of his fanbase that's always kind of 'tolerated' him (he is a cocky person). His guitar skills always made up for that personal trait of his. But if you compare some of is earlier work (not later than since Try!, for instance) he has lost that fire in his playing. It feels as if he's not reaching out as much as he used to.
this version is so much more interesting in terms of guitaring than the battle studies and new live versions he's being play. i get that he probably didn't want to try touching claptons guitaring take on it, so he went with the harmonies, but still.. this just has so much more feeling, and the tone is so so much better than the album tone
Couldn't agree with you more. The album version is bad per say, but I really don't understand why it is soooo friggin short. I mean, a song like crossroads and he makes it the shortest one on the album! Didn't get that...
i concur. it is fricking terrible. biggest waste of 20 bucks in my life. piece of shit. everything is so overly processed and just fucking terrible. Too many effects, no music, and dumb lyrics. godamn man. continuum was so damn good. Why the fuck didn't he continue with that shit. he too like a long jump forward with continuum, but just did a triple jump backwards. FUCK. his tone in that album sucks dick too.
@nthsieh928 think that's he does not only make Cds for guitar lovers, he's got to pay some atention to that crowd of girls who fill every stadium where he plays... I hope next time he makes some great blues-rock!!
Lol, why did you buy the whole album? You can buy each individual song off of iTunes and plus you have the choice of listening to it first so you know beforehand what you're getting.
Does anyone have the tabs for JMs version of crossroads cause he plays it a little different and i cant seem to hear the specs with the distortion he uses
@liamwilson123 lol, not even close buddy. according to ur comment, ur telling me jonas brothers, hannah montana, justin beiber, lil wayne are the cream of the crop of creativity. WRONG Buddy, sorry, ur wrong. and tell u wat, alot of genius arent making millions but are incredibly smart and creative music wise: eg. a bunch of jazz artists. and then there are the shti jazz artists (kenny g) who make a tons but sound like total shit...dumbshit
@larry3393 Your stupid, they genius' in the sense of marketing. they don't do it to be the best at music, they do it to be the best at making money. which isn't a bad thing.
and lil wayne is a smart individual,
oh and there are plenty of jazz artist that make money because they write jazz standards.
but you probably don't know that, because your too busy complaining about corporate sellouts and daydreaming of the good ol' days.
@JulianHuxtable well then ur pretty stupid for buying into their marketing strategy. Why not a step back, have some individualistic thoughts and actually look for some better music than lil wayne? And if u havent noticed, these "marketing geniuses" are so caught up in makin money that their songs are nothing but just pontification of their sex life drugs and money.
@larry3393 Im not saying I buy into it at all, John mayer is my favorite artist, but look at his first three albums, he did pop to bring all those screaming girls to his concerts, not for the fact that guys like you and I would notice his talent. and if you are saying his music is really any different, you dont play. basically every pop song is written off a 1 4 5 pattern. So are John mayers. what makes it different is tones, and solos. the melodies are just like any pop song.
@liamwilson123 not that i am defending whoever said they were better, but marketing does a lot. being a pop artist is a good example of marketing and in many eye's "selling out" that being said i do like the recent direction mayer has made. i just dislike his pop stuff.
@almostlover72 i think that was a reply to someone else who said john wasnt great! im sure he knows john is making millions, why would it be a highest rated comment otherwise. your missing the bigger picture! just saying thats all! :)

i have to agree for this one. i respect john, but this was just a shitty arrangement. he turned it into a poppy slow blues, and the drums were really killing me... among other things.
and this is the crossroads edition of the es.. pause at 4:38 and you will see the distinct sticker on the back of the head of the neck.. amazing guitar.
also a heads up JM is currently working on a version of this song for his upcoming album, which you should look for next year (a buddy of mine is pals with JM's Guitar Tech so I get insider info!) cool, huh? another hint at this is the video JM posted on youtube showing him playing it at Avatar Studios, his main studio. look it up
He is tight with Rene, and yes, he is indeed working on Battle Studies, while at the same time gearing up for the announcement and production of "The Black One" with Mike Eldred. I talk with mike now and then on Fender's forum, and he has reported that the process is going smoothly.
hmm. are you actually friends with this dude, because it seems like all your information comes from youtube videos... you havne't said anything that i dont know from watching videos on the mayermusic youtube channel...
you're hearing things from John himself. no dip that it isn't anything that you don't know yet. of course, people do have a right to be skeptical, especially on youtube.
at the rate he is recording, he is thinking he should have the wraps on it by the 4th quarter of the year. you never know with song writing. you could almost have a record done, then get a flash of inspiration and write 3 or 4 more songs for it.
wow great quality! the ES-335 in particular is in fact a Gibson Custom Shop Crossroads ES-335 (if you look closely at the truss rod cover, you will notice the white binding on it. That ES-335 is the only one Gibson makes that has that) that Guitar is one of 250 with the proceeds going to Clapton's Drug Rehab Center, named Crossroads (of all things) just a little fun fact, for most of JM's covers, he plays replicas of that person's guitar (Panama= Fender Custom Shop Frankenstien Replica) and such
he shoulda tottaly just put this version on battle studies !!!
