So who did more damage Murrow..who begat liberal broadcast news or McCarthy. For one thing McCarthy was more right than he knew. There were hundreds of Soviet agents in the US Govt.From Alger Hiss right up to Lauchlin Currie advisor to Roosevelt. Bentley, Ted Hall, Rosenbergs, Golos, all spies. The Venona transcripts proved it all but werent made public to 1992 or so. These were decoded Soviet

transmissions that named hundreds of agents some of which havent been identified to this day.

ehunter2 - you are missing the point. There is obviously no issue with tracking down soviet agents within places of influence such as government departments and the military.

But what McCarthy did was ludicrous and criminal. He persecuted people in all spheres of life, like musicians and business people who had no influence on public affairs. He actively denied civilians their constitutional rights to their beliefs and due process.

Murrow just exposed this criminal activity. Good for him.
